MSA Quarterly Box Ships Thursday + Updates

Just a quick update – the #MSA01 Quarterly box will start shipping Thursday. The boxes were supposed to start shipping today, but I’m the reason for the 2-day delay. I’ll explain:

I requested that the MSA01 box be overnighted to me yesterday so that I could preview the complete box before it ships. It arrived this morning and it was such a cool moment to open my own box! I’m really happy with all the items, and I hope you love them too.

That being said, there was one item that I was worried about how it would arrive after shipping across the country, and my concerns were justified – it did not arrive in perfect condition. (Still usable condition – but not perfect. And I can’t elaborate more without giving away another spoiler!)

I ran to my computer to send an “URGENT – Don’t ship MSA01 until packaging issue is resolved!” email to Quarterly. (I’m not sure if I’m the most demanding curator Quarterly has ever worked with, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that I am). Fortunately they have been great about handling all my requests.

I proceeded to give them an extremely detailed list of how to package this item. (Think Jeff Lewis of Bravo’s Flipping Out) And they are able to package it per my instructions, but the extra packaging means it no longer fits in the box that was orderedΒ for shipping #MSA01, and it’s going to take a day to get a bigger box in the quantity needed.

So that sums it up! I know a few readers have expressed interest in learning the behind-the-scenes parts of putting together a subscription box, so I’m trying to be as transparent as I can be with this process, but if it ever gets TMI let me know!


Also, I won’t be doing a traditional review of this box, but I will do an unboxing post and explain why I picked each item. I’m not sure on the timing on when I should do the post, but I’m thinking I should wait at least until all domestic subscribers have received their boxes? Let me know what you think.

  1. Was it the scrub that arrived in not perfect condition? Mine didn’t either. About 75% of its oil spilled out, but luckily the tissue paper around it absorbed it (and if that didn’t stop it, it’s bubbly wrap baggie would have), so nothing else was ruined. I think I can still use it, though – it will just be more exfoliating than moisturizing. Everything else though is beyond awesome and I love that you put the prices for everything! Can’t wait to see next quarter’s box!

    • I think it was the scrub….mine had a piece of Scotch tape on the top that seemed a bit out of place…but it made it through fine!

      Liz: I think this box is amazing. I am really happy I decided to buy it on impulse. Just smelling it made me happy!

  3. My box was dropped at a “shipping partner” in Compton last night (that’s where my ipsy bags go too).

    I am in SoCal so I’m hoping for delivery by Friday. Would be great if I got it tomorrow!

    Same here, which means the box was actually shipped and is en route today πŸ™ I’m hoping Liz will do a post about the box this week because i don’t think I can wait another week for my box to actually arrive! I’m soo impatient. Lol

    • I know Blessedmommi! I am in missouri so it could be another week before it shows up here.

      • I know… I’m in Idaho.. So if I’m lucky end of next week.

    • So just got my shipping notice- same, a arrived at partner facility the 16th, departed today. Maybe the shipping labels were created Thursday or Friday? Even though I’m in CA, I don’t think there’s a chance of delivery earlier than Saturday- from shipping partner to postal service, right? Liz, how about at least some hints to keep us going? Like number of items, or one item is fashion vs. beauty, etc?

  5. I am confused now….when is the box shipping? Or was it Thursday? I thought it was Thursday but I didn’t get a shipping notice. Has anyone?

    • I got a notice that my card was charged but I haven’t received shipping or tracking info.

      I don’t think i ever did when my Nina box shipped. I’m not sure if quarterly sends tracking info. Does anybody know if they do?

      • Tracking is sent one week after billing – this coming Wednesday you will receive it.

        • Thank you. So they bill you and then wait a week to ship it to you?

          • From what I recall on my tracking they seem to bill in the middle of the week and ship by the end of the week. It’s slow traveling because it is UPS-Post. Also the tracking is frustrating because it doesn’t update often. For example Nina Garcia did not update until it arrived at my house.

            I’m waiting on two because MSA and Arianna Huffington shipped at the same time. Or I should say bill. Not sure about shipping.

    • I am confused as well. What happened to “will start to ship Thursday”? Someone would have a box by now if that happened.

      • Welcome to the wonders of UPS-Post. πŸ™ I think CA should be receiving their boxes today or tomorrow. I hope Liz posts soon because I can’t wait! Looking forward to a wonderful box!!!

      • I just reached out to Quarterly to ask if all the boxes shipped Thursday and Friday. I definitely thought someone on the west coast would have received their box by now!

        • Billed last Wednesday – on account, box still shows as “ready”, not “shipped”.

          • I just talked to Quarterly and they confirmed that all boxes shipped Thursday and Friday, but their system takes a few days to update to shipped. So the packages are already in transit. If you haven’t received a shipment tracking email yet you should by today/tomorrow. Hopefully everyone gets their box this week! πŸ™‚

            So does this mean you’ll be doing your review post tonight/tomorrow?
            I’ve had such a horrible day and could use a little sunshine. Seeing the full items for your box would definitely put a smile on my face πŸ™‚ can’t wait for this box to brighten my day !!!

          • I decided to hold off until subscribers in the US gets their box – it is tempting, but since quite a few readers didn’t want me to post any more spoilers, I’m going to wait.

            In Canada or the US? I think boxes would take longer to arrive in canada.

            But I understand that you want to wait to give everyone a chane to get there box. So I’ll continue to impatiently wait πŸ™‚ the anticipation is killing me me!!

          • I’m also in CA- still no shipping notice, and account section still just showing the box as “ready”. Where do the boxes ship from? And back door tracking doesn’t work with the reference numbers on UPS? Seems odd if we would get the package before getting shipping confirmation…

  6. Quarterly sends a tracking number a week after billing which means that we should be receiving a tracking number on Wednesday. Then it takes one more week for it to reach my house in PA. I’m not expecting the package to arrive until the 24th if shipping by UPS-post. This has been my experiencing with Quarterly living in PA.

    • Except for Bianca Jade which arrived UPS. Fastest Quarterly box ever. This is why I hope Liz does spoilers. The spoilers will be posted on other websites. It would be nice if she could post first since it is her creative vision behind the box.

  8. I kept obsessively checking the Quarterly website to make sure I was really subscribed and today I got confirmation of payment. I’m super excited. It feels like the night before Christmas, but I wish they could just like teleport my box to me this instant.

    • Ditto to all of this! The box has been so hard for so many to get, I began to wonder if I really ordered it in the first place. I. Can’t. Wait.

    If Charges are processed Thursday and our boxes are shipped out Thursday, How will they be shipped? UPS ground, US Postal Service? etc and do you have an idea on when we can begin to expect to start receiving?
    Sorry, can’t help it – I’m excited. Can’t wait to open it. Yep – I’m channeling my 6yr old self here…. LOL

  19. I personally would LOVE a post about the whole process. Like…were their companies that rejected your requests for products? Did you really get your first choices? Did you pick from a pre-selected list? What’s the timeline Quarterly gave you to choose the items?

    • That is a great idea! As an editor and online course designer, I am all about the behind-the-scenes stuff. I would LOVE to know the details people don’t normally even think about!

  21. If you post spoilers tomorrow, can people cancel their box if they want and by doing so, open up boxes for the waitlist folks? Otherwise, some peeps would return their boxes and who knows what Q does with them. I think by posting spoilers with exphasizing spoilers in the header tonight or tomorrow is a win-win situation for all. Also, it would suck for someone to post box picts and/or review your box before you do (and this is what you do).

    • It is hard! I’m always scrambling to put together a spoiler post as quickly as I can we POPSUGAR, etc. is revealed, so this is a very weird situation to find myself in! πŸ™‚

  31. That’s SO smart for you to want to get your box before it ships to everyone–it definitely shows you care about your customers! I think we can all say we’ve had boxes that HAVEN’T been packaged well, or certain things weren’t taken into consideration, and it cheapens the experience.

    Is this shipping UPS all the way or UPS/Fedex post? It will be hard to wait 2 weeks for your review if it is the latter method. I’m always one of the last ones to receive Quarterly boxes.

    • AFAIK Quarterly always ships USPS so it takes a while. I was charged for Unclutterer on 9/3 and they still haven’t sent me the tracking info. (Then it’s usually 3-4 days after I get tracking that I get the box.)

      Also, please no spoilers!

  39. I’m just so excited to be a part of this first box. I already LOVE the spoilers that were provided. I can not wait. next week when i get it, it will be such an awesome highlight to my week. And I love the whole behind the scenes, it makes it all the more exciting.

    • Billing should occur on Thursday.

  42. Logistically, I can see why you would wait until the domestic packages have arrived. But personally, I would love to get my hands on spoilers the day it ships. If it was a marked post, we could only look if we wanted to know. I feel like it builds excitement to see spoilers!
