It’s Bespoke Post selection time for August! Remember – use coupon code RESCUE to save $13.50 (30%) off your first box!

Here are the details on each box:

Dash

Whether you already know your way around a home bar or want to learn the ropes, here’s how to make it personal.

Mix up a batch of your very own easy-to-make bitters, which are as important to your bar as salt & pepper are to your kitchen cabinet, and use ‘em in just about everything. It’s boozy and intense on its own, but a few dashes of the stuff will pair beautifully with most any cocktail to draw out new flavors. And here’s the fun part: you can customize your bitters recipe to complement a flavor in your favorite booze, or to add an entirely new dimension to classic cocktails — experimentation is encouraged. There’s lots of potential beyond the bar cart, too: try it in soda, baked goods, or your next dinner recipe when you’re not busy drinking.

Make Your Own Bitters Kit, Easy and Oskey

An easy project that pays delicious dividends. All you need is some sugar and a little bit of your favorite liquor to use with the included dry ingredients, bottles, and distilling gear. And if you’re generous, the finished product makes for a terrific gift to anyone who enjoys a good cocktail (or three). The only hard part is waiting for your batch to mature before you can get to mixing.

There are ingredients for two unique batches:

#1 – CUSTOM BLEND STARTER

NAKED
A blank canvas for your boozy imagination. Choose to add any combination of dry ingredients you have on-hand: herbs, spices, fruit, nuts, or whatever sounds good to you. We’ll provide suggestions, but the possibilities are endless.

#2 – CHOOSE FROM ONE OF THE BELOW

ORANGE
The bright citrus note in this recipe meshes with rich aromatics to bring a mild bite to any classic drink.

HABAÑERO
Highly concentrated spice that’ll add a contrasting kick to sweet or sour cocktails. Try it with ginger beer, like in a Moscow Mule.

Each batch makes 10 oz of bitters — which goes a very long way — and we’ve included six bottles with droppers and labels for pro-level presentation.

This custom kit includes: 2 bitters ingredient sets (naked and orange or habañero), 2 mixing jars, 6 dropper bottles & labels, funnel, cheesecloth, instructions, and recipes.

The 12 Bottle Bar, David Solmonson

You don’t need to have an overflowing liquor cabinet stocked with obscure liqueurs like in the mixology joints. Here’s your 400-page field guide on the only dozen bottles you need to make more than 200 drinks, from classics to bold new options. Work your way through as many of ‘em as you can while you wait for your bitters to mature, then put your new ingredient to good use while trying the rest of the recipes.

Thirsty yet?

And Bespoke Post has brought back a very popular box, Frontier. (Check out my review of the Frontier Bespoke Post).

Frontier Box

Frontier

Want to measure up to some of history’s greatest adventurers?

With a strong lineup of products that have stood the test of time, you’ll be discovering new lands, climbing mountains, and forging maps in no time. Use these well and you might even pass them on to your grandkids (along with some slightly exaggerated stories.)

No. 8 Pocket Knife, 3.25″ Stainless Steel Blade with an Oak Handle, Opinel

This isn’t just a knife — it’s a damn legend. Manufactured since 1890 in the small town of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, this pocket knife has become a profound icon of French design and utility. Need proof? Pablo Picasso used it to carve his sculptures, and lots of legendary explorers never left home without one. And aside from being a MoMA-endorsed design masterpiece, it’s got a resilient oak handle, stainless steel blade, and a unique locking collar to keep the blade in place and your fingers intact.

Black Sport Fountain Pen with Pocket Clip & Blue Cartridge Refills, Kaweco

Unlike cheap ballpoints, this pen has got old-school appeal with keen modern design. And when we say “old-school appeal,” we mean it: Kaweco’s been in the business since 1883 and packs all that history into a sharp contemporary rendition. They’re crafted from high-quality plastic, are compact when capped (4.1 inches), but just right when posted (5.3 inches), and come with a screw-on cap for extra security, a 23 KT gold plated stainless steel, and a medium-sized nib with an iridium tip. Learn how to use it well and your handwriting will be smooth and full, unlike the near-illegible scratches you get with a disposable pen. We’ve even thrown in six ink cartridge refills, plus a gold pocket clip so you can keep it clipped into the pocket of your tailored suit.

Godwin Cold-Pressed Steel Bottle Opener, Machine Era Co.

You know what they say: “write drunk; edit sober.” This’ll help get you on your way to the former, at least, with a strong cold steel construction that’s made start to finish in the U.S. It’s weighty enough to be damn near indestructible but light enough for your every day carry, and looks like a work of art: the gun-barrel-black finish and engraved artwork will outclass anything on your keyring.

Black Soft Cover Notebook, 5″ x 8.25”, Poppin

Whether you’re a design-obsessed writer or are just tired of covering your desk with Post-It Notes, a reliable and minimal notebook is the perfect way to keep track of your brilliant ideas. This one has got got 192 ruled pages for all of your notes, along with with an interior pocket for loose paper and an elastic closure to keep it all secure. So you can write down all of your notes for the Great American Novel… or a grocery list while you’re bored in your next meeting.

Now it’s your turn to put this timeless gear to good use.

September Hamptons Lane Box Reveal & $10 Coupon

Here is a detailed list of what’s in the box:

With football season back in full swing, it’s time to fire up the grill for the big game. Whether you are hosting at your home or out of your trunk alongside the stadium walls, we’ve got the perfect accouterments for a truly elevated tailgating experience. Create a spread of gourmet stuffed burgers – from Mediterranean Portobello & California Turkey to Cheddar Bacon – with the easy-to-use Stuff-A-Burger press. Top them with Cherry Chipotle Not Ketchup, a new take on ketchup that’s made from fruit. Pair your burgers with fish tacos and grilled veggies perfectly seasoned with blue ribbon-winning Santa Maria Seasoning from Oakridge BBQ, the barbecue kings of Missouri. For a flavorful Asian twist, douse fresh chicken wings with award-winning Brooklyn-made Spicy Korean BBQ Sauce from the Chung sisters behind We Rub You. Use a beautifully designed Charles Viancin Lily Pad cover to transport your culinary masterpieces to the tailgate area. Finally, you can lay your spread out with some tunes in the background powered by amazing foldable and portable speakers from OrigAudio. Between the food, music, and tools, your tailgate will have even the players’ mouths watering.

Stuff-A-Burger Press by Charcoal Companion, Berkeley, CA
MSRP: $12.00

Make a stuffed, flavor-packed “Juicy Lucy” burger every time with the Stuff-A-Burger Press. We love using this handy tool at tailgates because you can churn out large stuffed burgers quickly and easily (think burgers stuffed with cheese, avocado, mushrooms, bacon, or your favorite ingredient). The world is your burger! In a few simple steps, the press makes a well in the base of the patty for you to fill with anything you would like and seals the hole, forming one perfect patty. Put cheddar and avocado in turkey meat for a California Burger or goat cheese, thyme, and Portobello mushrooms in ground beef for a Mediterranean Burger.

Fold n’ Play Speakers by OrigAudio, Costa Mesa, CA
MSRP: $17.00

No tailgate would complete with some crowd-pleasing music to get the party started, but coordinating the sound system to project the playlist from our phones can be a challenge. The team at OrigAudio feels your pain and has developed foldable and completely portable speakers that are perfect for your next outdoor spread. They run off the juice from your phone, so no battery needed and Mother Nature approved. Problem solved!

Extra Large Lily Pad Lid from Charles Viancin, Paris, France
MSRP: $16.00

The Lily Pad lid collection from Charles Viancin is one of our absolute favorite versatile tools to have in the kitchen and outside at your tailgate. Not only are the silicone lids beautifully designed, their functionality is undeniable. They prevent spills by creating an airtight, watertight seal around any rounded surface – a must have for transporting food in the car. At home, they are safe to use at high temperatures so you can use to help prevent stovetop splatters and retain steam during cooking. Additionally, they are made of microwave safe silicone material that allows for quick cooking and reheating so you can safely reheat any food that has been sitting out on your tailgate table for too long.

Spicy Korean BBQ Marinade by We Rub You, Queens, NY
MSRP: $8.00

More than a marinade, we love using this Korean BBQ sauce from We Rub You for amazing chicken wings, exotic pulled pork tacos, corn salad with a kick, and just about everything in between. The experts and public agree, which is why the Spicy Korean BBQ Marinade won a sofi GOLD award in 2013 – the highest honor in the specialty food industry. It’s versatility and delicately spicy flavor profile puts the perfect twist on an all-American tailgate. Despite being an Asian kitchen staple, the marinade is made in the USA in small batches with all natural, vegan ingredients with NO MSG, high fructose, nor artificial ingredients.

Santa Maria Seasoning by Oakridge BBQ, Kearney, MO
MSRP: $7.00

This is some serious barbecue rub. Don’t believe us? The Santa Maria Seasoning has been named the Best Steak Rub in the Country three years in a row as a perfect salty/spicy/savory balance, making it a must have for any gourmet tailgate. We love it because you can put it on just about anything and get a sensational taste – all cuts of beef, veggies, seafood, pork, and chicken. As with all Oakridge BBQ rubs, this blend is 100% all natural with NO MSG, no fillers, no artificial colors, flavors, nor additives, and 100% gluten-free.

Cherry Chipotle Dipping Sauce by Not Ketchup, Los Angeles, CA
MSRP: $11.00

This smoky, sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy dipping sauce is made from ripe cherries and chipotle chili peppers – a combination that rivals the traditional ketchup condiment. We love it because it gives a complex, gourmet touch to tailgate staples like stuffed burgers, steak, French fries, chicken, sausage, meatballs, chicken wings, and glazed bacon. Just released this year, you won’t find this condiment at any other tailgate!

For the Makers DIY Subscription Box Review - August 2014 Card

Here are the crafts included for this month’s projects: a marbled notebook, marbled pencils, aurelian locket, and dalton pennant.

For the Makers DIY Subscription Box Review - August 2014 Finished

Here are the finished products! Unfortunately, I couldn’t complete the Dalton Pennant because there were issues with my printer, and the instructions require you to print out templates and such. All of these items incorporated marbling – you marbled a bunch of papers and the notebook, and then use the paper to cover a locket and pencils. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the marbling – especially because mine don’t quite look like the tutorial intended – but I really do love the end result (especially with that locket! Love!).

The Verdict: For the Makers’ tagline is “You make it, we make it easier.” This was definitely not the case this month. The marbling process was very involved, messy, specific, and required a lot of time for drying and a lot of space to work with (extra space is something that is quite scarce in our little apartment). Looking at the finished products, I love the way everything turned out but I kind of hated the process. Anything that involves two 6-hour (or overnight) drying times and creating/boiling down multiple mixtures to precise viscosities does not really get me excited. It was an interesting process and it was challenging and new to me, but the tutorial even specifically said you can purchase pre-prepared liquid cornstarch instead of mixing and boiling it down yourself. One way I feel that they could have made this craft better was actually including a bottle of the pre-mixed liquid cornstarch – the craft still required many steps and lots of involvement without having to get my stove and some extra pots/bowls involved (you still have to mix the paints, drip and swirl the paints to start and between every paper you marble, etc.).

That being said, after the actual marbling was done, all of the projects were quite manageable to finish up and very pretty. Now that it’s over, I like it, but this would probably have been a project that I would normally have let sit and never actually completed had I not been reviewing it.

What do you think of this month’s projects? Have you ever done marbling before?

T-Pain Fancy Box Subscription Review - August

The T-Pain Fancy Box is one of the newer celebrity curated subscription boxes from Fancy.

Fancy sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

T-Pain Fancy Box Subscription Review - August 2014 Items

The Subscription Box: T-Pain Fancy Box

The Cost: $39 plus $7.95 shipping to the US

The Products: $80+ worth of products selected by T-Pain

Ships to: Worldwide. (Shipping costs vary by country).

T-Pain Fancy Box Subscription Review - August 2014 Cash

Cash Stash Key Ring Emergency Cash Holder – Value $11

I love this. Rarely am I with my keys but not my purse/wallet, but it is great for emergencies. And from the reviews on Amazon it sounds like you can fit two bills in it if you fold them the right way.

T-Pain Fancy Box Subscription Review - August 2014 POP

Native Union POP Phone – Value $20

I received a POP phone in another subscription box years ago and I loved it until it broke – I’d say these phones have a lifespan of about 6 months. I always prefer to use a headset, so I’m happy to have a replacement, even if it only lasts me another 6 months!

T-Pain Fancy Box Subscription Review - August 2014 Milo

Phone Soap Polish - Value $20

Milo Phone Stand – Value $15

I’ve received this phone stand in a previous Fancy Box from a long time ago, and honestly I’ve never felt a need for a phone stand. This phone soap polish on the other hand is great – it’s all natural and antibacterial!

Verdict: Usually Fancy boxes don’t include very practical items – its often more of the fun or silly items I didn’t know existed! This box is totally practical for me though – I’ll use 3 out of the 4 items. The value is about $66 for this box – but that’s using a combination of Amazon and Fancy prices, and I know Fancy makes their $80+ promise based on MSRP values.

What do you think of the T-Pain Fancy Box?

And, if you sign up for 3-months up front, you also get the $19.99 rate!

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month. (They recently changed their skip policy – If you’re a new subscriber, you earn a skip every 6 months).

Julep Maven Subscription Box Review & Free Box Code - Sept 2014 Lip Crayon

This is one of my favorite makeup items from Julep yet. (It’s like a cross between a lip balm and a lipstick). The color is super natural and flattering, and the formula is great – shiny and moisturizing! Usually I like Julep makeup/beauty items but not enough to buy more, but in this case I think I will be stocking up on plush pout!

Julep Maven Subscription Box Review & Free Box Code - Sept 2014 Polish

Julep Nail Color in Mary Lee (Satin Finish) – Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Erin – Value $14

I love my color choices this month – I think they compliment each other well, and they are perfect for fall.

Horror Block is a brand new subscription box from Nerd Block. As soon as Nerd Block announced this box we signed up – my husband loves horror movies. This is the third box to date from Horror Block.

Horror Block Subscription Box Review – August 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

Horror Block Subscription Box Review – August 2014 Shirt

Alien Tee – Value $15?

All Horror Blocks come with a new t-shirt each month. So far all the shirts we’ve received have been well-made with 100% cotton.

Horror Block Subscription Box Review – August 2014 Saw

Cult Classics Hall of Fame Saw Jigsaw Killer – Value $15

Finger Bone Pen – Value $2

I am not into scary movies at all (this box is totally for my husband), but I actually have seen the Saw movies. I think we’ll be swapping this figure.

Horror Block Subscription Box Review – August 2014 Zombie

Zombie fan Wrap Car Window Decal - Value $15

One of our friends is obsessed with all things zombie, so I think he’ll be getting this to put in his car!

Horror Block Subscription Box Review – August 2014 Crypt

Rue Morgue Magazine - Value $10

Tale From The Crypt Comic Vintage Reproduction – Value $2

Rue Morgue has been in a staple in every box so far, so I think it is now safe to say you can expect a t-shirt and a Rue Morgue magazine in every Horror Block box!

Verdict: We paid $30 for this box and received about $60 worth of items. The value is great, but like all the other Block subscriptions, each month it really comes down to if you like the characters/movies/tv shows/comics featured. This box wasn’t a hit for my husband, but he’ll use the t-shirt and gift/swap the rest.

What do you think of the August Horror Block subscription box?

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review – August 2014http://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2014/08/vegan-cuts-snack-box-august.html http://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2014/08/vegan-cuts-snack-box-august.html#comments Sat, 30 Aug 2014 17:32:18 +0000 http://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/?p=26985 Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review - August

Vegan Cuts Snack Box is a monthly subscription box full of vegan and natural food products and snacks! I subscribe to their snack box and their beauty box, so they ship both subscriptions in the same box. I’m not vegan, but I avoid dairy and gluten in my diet, and I’ve found that about 90% of the items each month work for my dietary needs too!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Vegan Cuts Snack Box

The Cost: $19.95 a month

The Products: 7-10 vegan snacks (mostly gluten free)

Ships to: US, Canada (extra $8), and Internationally (extra $15)

Check out my Vegan Cuts Snack Box reviews and the list of the 8 Best Vegan Subscription Boxes!

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review - August 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included for that month.

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review - August 2014 Pur

pur Absorb Iron packets – Value $4

Be Bright Superfood – Sample

These pur Absorb liquid iron packets were such a win for me. I’m borderline anemic, and I’ve always meant to look into iron supplements, but usually the reviews of tablet supplements are not encouraging. The pur absorb liquid gets great reviews though. I’ve been taking my iron “shot” every morning before I eat and it could be in my head, but I think its improving my energy levels. (Side note – you know you’re growing up when you’re using the shot glasses from your bar for iron supplements and not alcohol!).

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review - August 2014 Seeds

Chic a Peas in Falafel - Value $4

Ziggy Marley’s Roasted Hempseeds in Sea Salt & Pepper – Value $10

Both of these snacks are crunchy, delicious, and super addicting! The hemp seeds are great for salads, and the chic a peas are great for eating the entire bag in one sitting!

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review - August 2014 Sweets

Surf Sweets Watermelon Rings – Value $1.50

Somersaults Cinnamon Crunch - Value $1

Smooze Coconut Milk Push Up Popsicle – Value $1

I don’t get many sweets in subscription boxes that are dairy and gluten free, so I was very happy to see these watermelon rings in the box!

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review - August 2014 Veggies

Peeled Organic Apple Clusters in Berry – Value $1

Eat Your Vegetables Chips in Sea Salt - Value $1.50

These peeled apple clusters seem to be in a lot of food subscription boxes lately, but they’re a great healthy sweet snack, so I’m always happy to have more. Unfortunately these ones were extremely stale. The expiration date is 9-20-2014, so they definitely were cutting it close, and the product quality suffered.

These chips on the other hand were a win. They remind me of mexican restaurant chips (somewhat oily), and they’re really crisp and delicious. (Definitely not a light snack though!)

Verdict: I paid $20 for this box and received about $25 worth of items. I’m happy with the value (with food boxes I don’t expect the value to be a ton more than what I paid), and I’ve discovered some great new products so this box served its purpose!

Square Hue Review & Free Box Coupon – Sept 2014 Info

This month the destination from the Passport Collection is Sydney.

Square Hue Review & Free Box Coupon – Sept 2014 Polish

Square Hue Polish in Crown Street

Square Hue Polish in Oxford Street

These are both gorgeous micro-shimmers. I love the burnt-orange/sunset vibe of the colors this month – it is perfect for fall.

Square Hue Review & Free Box Coupon – Sept 2014 Color

Square Hue Polish in King Street

This shade is a lovely high-gloss creme and easily my favorite color in the box. I surprisingly have no similar colors in my nail polish collection, and I think it is the perfect autumn shade!

Verdict: If you’re looking for on-trend colors each month with a high-quality polish formula, Square Hue is a great subscription. And I absolutely love their color choices this month! What do you think of the September box?

Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box Review #BUG01http://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2014/08/creative-bug-quarterly-subscription-box-review-bug01.html http://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2014/08/creative-bug-quarterly-subscription-box-review-bug01.html#comments Fri, 29 Aug 2014 22:36:58 +0000 http://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/?p=27652 Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box #BUG01

Creative Bug is a new subscription box from Quarterly. I received a few requests to review this box so I signed up!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box Review #BUG01 Items

The Box: Creative Bug Quarterly Box

The Cost: $50 a box (shipped every quarter)

The Products: Creative items in the categories of home, lifestyle, and art.

Ships to: Shipping is free to the US. (Canada +$20; rest of world +$30.)

Check out all of my Quarterly reviews!

Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box Review #BUG01 Letter

Each Quarterly Box comes with a letter from the curator detailing the items included. This month the theme is centered around drawing with expert Lisa Congdon.

This box also comes with a unique coupon code to get Lisa’s workshop on drawing for free.

Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box Review #BUG01 Doodle

Lisa’s Doodling Manifesto – Value?

This is printed on a very heavy card stock.

Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box Review #BUG01 Sketchpad

Strathmore Sketch Pad - Value $13

Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box Review #BUG01 Marker

Pigma Graphic 1 Pen - Value $2.20

Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box Review #BUG01 Washi

Funtape Washi Tape 6 mm width (2) – Value $4?

Lisa Congdon for Cloud 9 Fabrics Swatch

Tattly Temporary Tattoos (Set of 2) – Value $5

I love paper/washi tape, but I’ve only used the standard tape size, so I’m pretty excited about these super slim tape widths. Creative Bug also included two of Lisa’s designs in fabric and tattoo form.

Creative Bug Quarterly Subscription Box Review #BUG01 Classes

This box came with a coupon code to get a one month free trial at Creative Bug. (It gets you unlimited access to all of their crafting video classes). I believe you have to enter credit card info though).

This box also comes with a unique coupon code to get Lisa’s workshop on drawing for free. (No need to enter credit card info). I just started watching the first video from Lisa, and I am seriously impressed with the production quality! (I haven’t tried out other videos on the site yet, but I wasn’t expecting the videos to be so professional!)

Verdict: This is a bit of a tough box to give a verdict on. If you are looking for a way to express yourself creatively each season and challenge yourself a little bit, I think this is a great box. At first when I opened up the box I thought I’d be swapping the items since I don’t consider myself much of a drawer. But after watching the intro video to Lisa’s class, I think I’m going to do the entire class and see how it goes! (I used to doodle all the time in my notebooks in school, and it probably would be good to keep up that creative outlet in adult life!)

If you are looking for a good retail value in a box – I cannot recommend this box. It’s hard to calculate the exact value since I don’t think you can buy Lisa’s classes individually, but from a strictly retail value view, this box doesn’t match the $50 I spent.

What do you think of the first Creative Bug Quarterly box?

MSA Quarterly Box Spoiler below…..

I wasn’t planning on doing another spoiler for the MSA box before it ships next week, but since there is a crossover item in this box, I felt I needed to be transparent and let you know. (It would be kind of weird if I wrote how excited I was to get this lipgloss only for it to show up in the MSA box next week!) The Juice Beauty Reflecting Lip Gloss is also in the MSA box. It’s my favorite organic lip product of all time, and I’m so happy we got to get it in the box. It’s the full-size version, ($15 value), and each box will have one of the four colors they make. I can never have enough of these lipglosses, so I’m excited to get two this month (hopefully different colors), but I just wanted to let you know!
