ShaggySwag designs, creates, and delivers high quality, one-of-a-kind dog treats, toys, and other essential items in a curated monthly box. Their mission is to provide cool dog owners across the U.S. with a monthly delivery filled with top-of-the-line essentials, nutritious treats, exclusive toys, and dog swag inspired by the hip pets and humans of NYC.

Shaggy Swag January 2018

ShaggySwag box types are determined based on the size of your pup. My Border Collie/Lab mix, Oliver, weighs in at around 50 pounds, give or take a few Milkbones, which landed him in the Just Shaggy medium breed classification! The other options are Tiny Shaggy (dogs up to 10 pounds), Small Shaggy (dogs from 10-25 pounds), and Beastmode Shaggy (dogs above 50 pounds.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This is a review of the Just Shaggy, $32 a month, box.

ShaggySwag January 2018 Review

ShaggySwag Stickers and Potty Bags

ShaggySwag Membership Pin - Listed Value $12

Your first ShaggySwag box comes with a welcome brochure, ShaggySwag stickers, potty bags, and a membership pin! Their brand voice is immediately loveable. (It goes hand-in-hand with their fantastic motto, too: Spread Love, It’s the Shaggy Way.)

Harry Barker Taxi Cab Squeaky Toy, large – Retail Value $14.00

An important note before reviewing this and other toys included in this box: I was originally unaware that ShaggySwag has a question regarding chewing habits to help with box selection. When you indicate the size of your pup, you can also answer their “Heavy Chewer?” question: “Is the dog receiving ShaggySwag the master of destroying toys?” I should have answered yes because Oliver has fun chewing things to bits and would have been better off with more durable toys!

He was able to rip through the sturdy, 100% cotton canvas of this taxi cab toy within a few minutes. I do think it would hold up with dogs who chew less, however! The seams are double-stitched for durability and the back is made of thick barber fleece.

Oliver started going to town immediately and chewed until the fiberfill stuffing of the toy was exposed and I had to mournfully take it away in fear of fluff-swallowing.

Look how proud he is.

Proud with a side of tongue. The toy itself is eco-friendly and machine washable. I think less gung-ho pups would enjoy this squeaky taxi without ripping or eating it!

Wholesome Pride Mix Dog Treats

Wholesome Pride Mix Dog Treats, 5 oz. Retail Value $10.99

This is about as natural as dog treats can get. The only ingredients in this dehydrated mix are sweet potatoes, blueberries, banana chips, and coconut oil. Full disclosure: I tried a few pieces. For science. Everything was dried to the point of tasting like cardboard, so you don’t need to worry about added sugar with this trail-mix-inspired assortment!

Personally, our family tries to avoid giving Oliver human food, so these treats caused a minor moral dilemma. They would make fantastic training rewards, however, and Oliver, who is the most food-motivated pup I know, definitely enjoyed doing tricks for them!

Himalayan Dog Chew Yaky Churro Cheese Dog Treats – Retail Value $5.99, Listed Value $10 (found here for $3.24)

Try saying this treat’s name three times fast. Rest assured, I did not sample them! These USA-made treats are made from an “ancient recipe” that converts milk into hard cheese. The result is apparently a smoky, cheese-flavored treat with a soft texture that’s easy to chew. Oliver loved these to the point of taking one over to the corner of the room to guard and eat in peace.

There is no lactose, grains, or gluten in these churros, and the treats contain natural enzymes that help remove plaque from your pup’s teeth!

Harry Barker Cotton Rope Bone Toy

Harry Barker Cotton Rope Bone Toy, largeRetail Value $12.00

Oliver and I both appreciated the sturdiness of this rope bone! It’s made from durable, 100% azo-free recycled cotton yarn, and is ideal for keeping teeth and gums clean. (A tip from Harry Barker is to wet the toy and freeze it before giving it to your pup for optimal chewiness!)

Once again, Oliver went hard.

The rope bone definitely held up better than the taxi. It frayed slightly on the ends, but none of the material broke off. With a lot more chewing, I think it could risk being ingested, so I’d still recommend saving this toy for a more gentle dog or a teething puppy.

Mango Tango Grooming Wipes – Retail Value $7.99, Listed Value $12.00 (found here for $6.08)

These smelled amazing! The mango scent was light but fragrant and fresh enough to linger. These wipes would be great for quick wipe-downs between baths and contain aloe vera and vitamin E to moisturize your dog’s coat and skin. I wiped Oliver’s paws with them and he had no reservations!

Love Thy Beast Bandana

Love Thy Beast Bandana – Listed Value $20.00 (value noted on ShaggySwag's site)

A ShaggySwag exclusive! These denim and orange-trimmed bandanas are designed right in Brooklyn and made in limited supply for ShaggySwag subscribers. They’re light, not-too-thin, and super stylish!

Oliver approved.

Verdict: I had SO much fun opening and enjoying this box with my dog. It makes for an amazing, giggle-filled bonding experience, and provides high-quality products to boot! I do think the subscription will be even more fun once I opt for more durable, chew-fiend-friendly toys. ShaggySwag offers a beautiful assortment of unique dog gear, and I love that most, if not all, are eco-friendly.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign-up today? Yes indeed! This NYC-inspired box is available for purchase or gift-giving here. From ShaggySwag:

Value Breakdown: Each ShaggySwag box is said to be guaranteed to have a $90+ value. This month, I received a total value of an $82.97 value (not including the Stickers and Potty Bags) which is good compared to the $45.00 $32.00 a month + free shipping box cost. This means I spent approximately the following on each item:

  • ShaggySwag Membership Pin: $6.50
  • Harry Barker Taxi Cab Squeaky Toy: $7.59
  • Wholesome Pride Mix Dog Treats: $5.96
  • Himalayan Dog Chew Yaky Churro Cheese Dog Treats: $3.25
  • Harry Barker Cotton Rope Bone Toy: $6.51
  • Mango Tango Grooming Wipes: $4.33
  • Love Thy Beast Bandana: $10.85

Oliver is a cutie. That’s how my Chihuahua mix treats toys. Everything is seen as a challenge, to be destroyed as soon as possible!

Aw! I think the proud looks on their faces after the wreckage is complete makes up for the short lifespan of their toys! 🙂
