Lola Beauty Box January 2018 Review
This month features nail, skincare, and makeup products. Let’s check it out:
Each box comes with a card detailing the brands and items included along with the prices and websites for each. This month’s theme is “This is Your Year to Sparkle”.
Kokie Cosmetics Powder Contour Palette - Retail Value $15
This is a great size contour palette with a mirror and magnetic closure. There are 3 contour shades and 3 highlight shades all of which are matte and have a velvety texture. I need to use a light hand with these because the contour shades are fairly rich but they blend easily and don’t look powdery on my skin. The pans are large enough to fit even big, fluffy brushes without “cross-contaminated” from other pans.
RMS Beauty Nail Polish in Spark, 30 fl oz. - Retail Value $15 (found here for $7.50)
I don’t know what to think about this shade. It is a coppery metallic that reflects magenta and orange when the light hits it. Sometimes I like it and sometimes it just looks unflattering. The formula is not bad though. I used three coats here (no top coat yet) and got a smooth even finish.
LASplash Cosmetics Karina Mascara in Catwalk - Retail Value $18
This mascara stands out in my makeup bag with its reflective red color and teardrop shape. The wand is curved slightly at the end to help reach smaller lashes. The shade is a nice, saturated black that makes my lashes look full and long. I notice some good curl without using a lash curler too.
Feel Beauty Brilliant Bamboo Charcoal Facial Sheet Mask, Set of 4 - Retail Value $35
I’m a fan of including multiples of products especially when they work. This mask set includes 4 weekly masks including charcoal and hyaluronic acid to tone and hydrate skin while fighting breakouts. I sat back on the couch for a while wearing one this weekend and when I took it off my skin looked bright and calm while feeling super hydrated.
Doucce Click Lipstick in Puppy Love - Retail Value $24
Isn’t this packaging clever.?I like the click style tube because it stays closed when being tossed around in my purse. You just push the bottom in and the inner tube pops out revealing a traditional lipstick. I wasn’t crazy about the orangy-brown shade in the tube but I’m not hating it on. It feels light and smooth on my lips, and, while it does transfer, it looks good for a few hours before needing a touchup.
Here are swatches of the contour shades (left), highlight shades (right), and lipstick (far right).
Here I’ve applied one coat of the mascara and got a good curl and volume without any clumps. I used a really light hand with the contour palette here because I wasn’t wearing any foundation and it gives good definition without looking unnatural. I’ve also applied the lipstick to my bare lips and, even though they were chapped, it looks smooth and creamy.
The Verdict: This month, Lola Beauty Box has done a good job of curating a variety of items from different categories. I really like the masks and lip color. I still have to make up my mind about the nail polish, but I appreciate receiving a shade to try that I wouldn’t have picked for myself. Everything is full sized and with a value of $107, they come through on their promise of at least a $70 value. That’s great for a $21 box that always introduces me to new types of products and brands.
