Lip Monthly January 2018 Review

Each month, Lip Monthly sends their lip products in a little makeup bag. This month’s bag is made of a black satin with little white stars all over it. Normally there is a little info card, but this month came without one.

Mirabella Colour Luxe Lip Gloss in Beam, 4g

Mirabella Colour Luxe Lip Gloss in Beam, 4g - Retail Value $26 (found here for $13)

This is so pretty! It is a super sheer pink gloss with silver and fuschia shimmer. I really like it on its own because it is a nice wash of color but is still interesting because of how dimensional it looks. It feels very moisturizing on my lips without being sticky. Mmm. and it smells like vanilla icing. This is also a perfect topper for other lip colors (hint, hint...see below).

Laritzy Lip Pencil in Jewel, 1g

Laritzy Lip Pencil in Jewel, 1g - Retail Value $18

I’ve tried a couple of different shades of this lip liner and it is a good one. It’s matte, long-lasting, and not too dry. This shade is described as magenta but I think it is more dark cranberry. There is a little brown in there that tones it down from a true berry. I’ve lined and filled in my lips with just the pencil here.

And here is the Laritzy pencil with the Mirabella gloss on top. If you weren’t convinced that a lip topper is amazing before, you should be now. It totally changes the look of the liner. I love it. I have to be a little more conscious of smearing, but I love the color.

Cosmoholic Mini Liquid Lipstick in Prudish Pink, 5.5ml

Cosmoholic Mini Liquid Lipstick in Prudish Pink, 5.5ml - Retail Value $10

There is no labeling on this tube, so I’m guessing that this is the shade based on pictures on the linked website. It is a nude, coral pink that is smooth and opaque when applied. This feels so comfortable on and isn’t tacky. I appreciate having a lip product that is easy to apply and looks great without having to be super precise with the lines of my lips. And look, there is a little mirror attached to the tube.

Isabelle Dupont Sheer Eye Pencil

Isabelle Dupont Sheer Eye Pencil - Estimated Value $5 (I can’t find it listed online, I think it has been discontinued)

Well, this is quite a change of pace from the nude and pink tones of the rest of the bag. I sort of rolled my eyes when I saw it, but, I actually liked the results. This electric blue eye pencil was really smooth and applied with a few strokes to create a great pop of color above my typical black liner. I have been wearing my glasses lately to take a break from contacts, and I think fun eyeliners helps to bring out my eyes even when they are behind glasses. Plus, I felt like the whites of my eyes looked brighter and more clear.

Here are all of the swatches next to each other. From top to bottom: Mirabelle Gloss, Cosmoholic Liquid Lipstick, Laritzy Lip Pencil, Isabelle Eye Pencil.

Verdict: This month’s Lip Monthly was a hit for me. I’m into the lip topper trend and love that it looks great on its own or as a topper to other lip colors. I’m happy with the rest of the products too and will be using them all. Most months, there are five products included, which is nice. This month had four, but all were great and totaled $59 in value. I’m really liking being able to try new lip products for a price of $12.95. If you like lip colors in all different forms, this would be a good subscription to try.

So, I just did the math! The annual subscription costs more than the month-to-month. Not alot but it should be cheaper not more, just sayin!

AH

I went to their website to see what the annual cost was since the annual listed here is indeed more. The website says it is only $116.55, so it is actually less, like it should be.

Looks like they’ve gone back to nice makeup bags – last year they had a spate of months with cheapo, afterthought-looking canvas bags. I unsubbed because of product overload, but I always thought that it was a good value. Even if I only liked and kept the bag and one of the products, it’s still an awesome price for experimenting. I’ll go back to them when I’ve used up the lip stash. Never had billing problems with them, and I’m always happy for Laritzy lip pencils – they’re great! The partial-customization feature is terrific.
