KitNipBox "Transportation" January 2018 Review

KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times:

The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online. This month had a transportation theme.

All for Paws Set Sail Teas & Dangle Wand

All for Paws Set Sail Teas & Dangle Wand – Listed Value $7

KitNipBox includes a wand toy pretty much every month and I am not sad about that at all. This month’s wand had a lot going on, dangly plushes, ribbons, and feathers! I didn’t catch any action shots, really, but this item was interesting to most of my cats.

All for Paws Sailboat

All for Paws Sailboat – Listed Value $6

This is a catnip plush on the larger side. It does have an interesting collection of textures represented among its fabrics, which is of interest to the older cats. This is something Angus will discover in a week and repeatedly kick downstairs.

All for Paws Helicopter

All for Paws Helicopter – Listed Value $6

The tail assembly (sorry, I don’t know the words for most helicopter parts) was the most interesting part here, based on my cats’ reactions. This is a catnip plush that is a similar size to the sailboat.

Safemade Taxi cat toy

Safemade Taxi – Listed Value $5

Here is another catnip plush on the larger side of things. It is pretty lightweight and the fabric is great for hooking claws into, so this will get tossed around a lot. Madison liked sniffing it, as well.

Best Pet Hoot Pal cat toy

Best Pet Hoot Pal – Listed Value $4

Oops, I thought this was a mouse for some reason, but I guess it is an owl. I am not sure what it has to do with transportation but I guess it can be difficult to find 6 toys that all fit the same theme. At any rate, Mr. Kitty liked rubbing his chin on this, so I left it in our home office, where he is currently staying until he can be trusted with the e-collar removed.

Handmade Traffic Kicker by Dream Cat

Handmade Traffic Kicker by Dream Cat – Listed Value $5

A lot of KitNipBox toys are wholesale only if I can find them online at all, so it is nice to occasionally find something from a small, independent producer as well. This has a canvas-type fabric on the outside, which is something Monkey really, really likes (as in, he licks it repeatedly).

So Bright Freeze Dried Whitefish (1 oz) cat treats

So Bright Freeze Dried Whitefish (1 oz) – Listed Value $4

Normally I can find KitNipBox treats for sale online, but I got this same treat in the Pet Treater Cat Pack last month, so I’ve already spent some time in the last day or so looking for it. I think it is fairly new to the market and not a lot of merchants are carrying it yet. Unfortunately, my cats are not really fans of freeze-dried meat. Most of them were willing to sniff this (and it smells strong), but only Sneaky actually ate her whole piece. Although the idea of a grain-free, single-ingredient treats is appealing, I’d rather get something my cats will actually eat. (This is not just a problem with KitNipBox – many, many cat subscriptions are sending this kind of treat these days.)

Gratuitous cat photos below. (Note: I caught them during afternoon “sleepy time” so there wasn’t a lot of playing going on. Angus is under 2 years of age but the rest of them are 9 or older and not super active these days.)

Angus tries a treat.

Angus inspects the helicopter toy.

Madison with a treat. I promise, he really does have a face.

Madison poses with the taxi.

And the feathers get interested them every time!

Monkey feigns disinterest. (FYI, he is the one knocking toys down off the shelf and taking them downstairs at a rate second only to Angus…)

Sneaky likes dangly things on sticks.

But she likes treats even more.

Poor guy, Mr. Kitty scratched under his eye socket and had to have the cone put back on. (But really, he is quite happy now that we found some canned goat cat food that he LOVES.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of $37 for the February KitNipBox. That’s about seven dollars over the cost of the subscription on a month-to-month basis. This was not the best box in terms of toy variety for KitNipBox (I wish there had been a few smaller items) but I do think most of these will get played with, eventually.

I just got this box and was kind of disappointed that February’s theme was not love! All of the transportation stuff was cute but I was super excited for cute heart shaped toys.

Do you know what all cat boxes are missing?? I think they should send the subscription box and it’s contents in a big enough box for kitties to get into… Cat’s LOVE BOXES more then anything. I guess it may cost more so they should put an option to add it on the site maybe. I got this box for months for my furry friend but sadly the toys were a bit on the boring side to him. If they sent a Jackson G toy in your first box and then maybe sent new toys to change the old toy out that would of been sweet too. My kitty loves things that move and so do most I think. Also I checked off no treats because my kitty can have a problem with new food/treats.
Anyway great review and I love all your photos of your babies. I always read them…thanks…

PurrPacks used to be big enough for them to fit into, but it’s not around any longer. On the other hand, Angus has tried to sit in StitchyBox, which is not very big at all. I guess I don’t notice the lack of large boxes because I get so many boxes, there’s always one that’s big enough.
