Collections by Joya February 2018 Review

Collections by Joya bag of jewelry

I always look forward to my Collections by Joya box, but after a bit of a disappointment last month (TL;DR is that I only received two items, and they didn't feel as special to me as so many others have felt), I was especially eager to open this month's box! The canvas pouch holding my jewelry had some wooden beads peeking out of the top, and I liked what I saw already!

Durango Necklace — Retail Value $58.95 (found here for $39.95)

Turns out the blonde wood beads were part of this necklace, which is very similar to this necklace that I received a few months ago. The one I originally received didn't quite strike my fancy—the combo of the bold beads and carved horn were just a little "too much" for me—so I gifted it to a friend. I like this toned down version much better and I think I'll keep it for myself!

Claire Ring — Estimated Value $58.95

I couldn't find this exact ring on the Joya website, so I linked to a version that also includes two other stacked rings. I think this ring is just beautiful—and actually, I like the version I received, without the other two stacked rings, better. It allows the intricate side detailing and onyx center stone to stand out more. Unfortunately, the only finger this ring truly fit on is my pointer finger, and that's the one finger on which I don't tend to wear rings. I'm not sure what size I received, but I'm thinking a 7. I would say 7 is a pretty common ring size that would fit most fingers. I have a few beautiful vintage rings that are too big, that I just wrapped a little string around to make them fit. I might do that for this one, or I might gift it. Yet to be determined! Either way, I appreciate that it's not adjustable; something about that feature just seems to cheapen rings to me.

moonstone stud earrings from Collections by Joya

Moonstone Stud Earrings — Retail Value $39.95

I encourage you to click on the link I provided for these earrings above because they didn't photograph as beautifully for me as they look on Joya's site. They have a brilliant sheen to their faceted ivory stones. I don't wear too many studs these days, mainly because I often wear over-ear headphones while I work at my desk and the posts dig into the sides of my head. But, as long as Joya keeps sending me gorgeous pairs like these, I might just have to start sporting them more frequently!

I popped all of my jewelry from this month on over the casual sweater I was wearing, but I would absolutely wear each piece dressed up, too.

And then, as always, they included gift packaging. This little squeezebox is pretty much the norm, and the golden raffia ribbon is the same as last month's. I also always save a little bit of the grey sizzle from inside the shipping box to pad whatever I might put in this gift box down the line!

Verdict: I'm very pleased with my February Collections by Joya box! The pieces are all different enough from one another that subscribers are bound to fall in love with at least one item. I really liked all three, and look forward to working them into my outfits! This box costs $49.95, including shipping, and the three pieces I received add up to an estimated $157.85 (less with necklace's sale price). Amazing value!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Order by 3/8 to get the March box!

Value Breakdown: At $49.95 for this box, you're paying approximately $16.65 per item. That's an incredible deal! Here's about how it would break down per item:

  • Necklace: $14.37
  • Ring: $21.21
  • Earrings: $14.37

Interesting! I got the ring and earrings but got a different necklace! It was the one you posted in an earlier review with howlite and brass beads called Bolgheri Necklace in their site. I signed up after you reviewed that so at least I didn’t get a double. Looks like not every box going out is the same! I wonder how they choose who gets what, I think I would have liked the necklace you got quite a bit…

I’ve been curious how they package their sub boxes, too, because I’ve seen Instagram posts about the monthly subscription and, similar to your experience, folks received a different selection than I did. I have noticed that usually the monthly boxes include a combination of full-price items, sale items, and sometimes even pieces that are no longer available on the Joya site. It makes me wonder if they start by packaging up jewelry they need to clear through, then supplement with full-price items. Just a speculation! If that’s the case, though, I sure don’t mind because I’ve only ever received super high-quality items from this box!
