Bookroo January 2018 Review

This insert gives a brief description of each book and also includes a link for some extension activities. After visiting the site, I was impressed with the cute art ideas they gave to go along with it - perfect to engage this age group! This month they had great ideas such as making your own medals and Olympic ring art.

They also included this coupon that you can share with a friend so that they can try Bookroo, too!

Max and Marla by Alexandra Boiger - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $16.19)

This book contained adorable watercolor illustrations and scenes of snow and winter. It was a perfect pick to highlight the Winter Olympics this year! It tells the story of Max and his owl friend, Marla and how they are true Olympians. They train and learn the art of perseverance as they face challenges together while never giving up. The illustrations help tell the story as much as the text and it’s a great book to teach a child about inferring from pictures.

The Grizzly Bear Who Lost his GRRRRR! by Rob Biddulph - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $11.48)

This story was filled with colorful illustrations and contained a rhyming tale about a bear (in a sweatband!) who lost his Grrrrr! He competes in the annual ‘Best Bear in the Wood’ Contest which holds events like fish catching, hula-hooping and of course, roaring. Along the way to find his roar, he learns how to make friends and rely on them for help. I really loved this book- the rhyming was fun, the story taught a sweet lesson and the little, silly details in all of the illustrations were fun for me as a parent. It’s a great book I can see us reading a lot and with such detailed images, I think we’ll be able to find something new to love about it each time.

Verdict: This was my first time receiving a Bookroo box. I love that the books come individually wrapped in fun paper and have an elastic ribbon to hold them together. The presentation gives it that extra special feel. The retail value of the books was $35.98 which is great for a $22.99 box ($17.99 a month + $5 shipping). I love that they used an Olympic theme and sent this out just in time for the Winter Olympics. It was a fun way to introduce my daughter to the Olympics and the lessons in the stories are easy to make real-life connections to. Overall, I was really pleased with my box and I look forward to seeing if the next box has a theme as well!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
