Trunk Club For Women January 2018 Review

Trunk Club January 2018 envelope

My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am fond of the incredibly personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.

Trunk Club January 2018 note and invoice

Enclosed with the selections that my stylist, Stefania, chose for me was this crisp envelope; it included a note from Stefania with suggestions for styling, an invoice for everything in the box, a shipping label, and tape to use to reseal my box for returned items.

The last conversation my stylist, Stefania, and I had, I mentioned that I was seeking out more sweaters and bell sleeved tops. This month’s box was just that - sweaters and blouses. This lovely metallic silver threaded grey sweater was one of the tops sent my way. This sweater would be very ordinary and plain if it weren’t for the sassy peekaboo cut out on the décolletage. The sweater has ample stretch and is rather comfortable. The top was a bit big on me; I wonder if a 2x would have fit better. I purposefully showed the top tucked in and out to show how long it is. I styled the sweater with the pants Stefania mentioned from the October trunk she sent me. The sweater is versatile enough it would look great with a form-fitting pencil skirt and heels or dressed down in jeans and sneakers.

I have been fortunate to try out so many pieces from Rebel Wilson’s X Angels line through several subscription boxes I review. This and the glorious faux fur coat from last month’s review may be two of my favorite pieces so far. This tunic comes in the loveliest, deep, sapphire blue shade. The sleeves, neckline, and bottom of the top have a faux leather grommet design. I didn’t bother to tuck this top in because the grommet detail at the bottom hem is too amazing to hide. The fabric of this top has a slight stretch. I have found most of the pieces in this line are vanity sized and this top was no different. It was very roomy and comfy. I couldn’t resist wearing my studded booties with my tried and true large brim hat; they paired too perfectly not to!

Here is another wild, big sleeved top. These sleeves are similar to a bell sleeve, but with a slit in them, so the bottom drapes down more. I love anything that is black and white stripes, so I did like this top a lot. Seriously, my closet is a sea of items with different variations of black and white stripes. The fabric is knit and has a good bit of stretch. The length was a bit long, so I preferred it tucked in to define my waist a tad more. I styled these with the same black pants as the other outfits, but I could see this top looking fantastic with a black or another solid colored pencil skirt like red, yellow, or blue to bring in a pop of color.

Generally, I steer clear of anything hot pink or fuschia, but I actually liked this color on me. Go figure! The top is a tad oversized, but I kind of liked the roominess of this top. The material almost has a silky feel. The bell sleeves on this are the best feature on this top. The keyhole is a cute detail as well, but the elastic that the button hooks into is a bit of a doozy with my long talon-like fingernails! I paired this top with a black leather vest that belonged to my grandfather to cut some of the pink out and give it a more fitted appearance. This top would look amazing with a floral skirt or even a black and white patterned pencil skirt and heels for the office.

At first sight of this top, I figured I would not like it due to its mauve shade. The color reminds me of a couch my parents had in the 90s that was this dusty blue with mauve tulips on the cushions. Everything was cornflower blue and mauve in my childhood home and I am still trying to recover from it, you guys! I digress. That all being said, this was actually my favorite top of the bunch! GO FIGURE, RIGHT?! I think in part due to that pussy bow, since I am a sucker for tops with ties at the neck! The fabric of the top is a muted satin or suede-like silk material. The cut is meant to be billowy, but I opted to show it styled slightly three different ways. First tucked in with my Grandpap Jack’s leather vest, second with the vest and still tucked in, and third with it untucked to show you all the length and how loose this top actually is. This top paired fantastically with my dark denim skinny leg jeans, double buckle western belt, large brimmed hat, and ankle booties. This would also look amazing with a mini skirt, patterned tights, and knee-high boots for some extra sass.

Bell Sleeve Cozy Fleece Pullover by Gibson, Size 3x — Retail Value $59

This sweater was probably my least favorite of the selections this month, mainly due to the style. However, I loved how warm and cozy this sweater was. The material of this sweater is incredibly soft and it has ample stretch. I am not sure if I liked the bell sleeves with a thick, fleece sweater. I think I would have preferred more tapered sleeves for this top, but I still appreciate it because I am a total sweater fiend these days! Heck, I would probably wear a robe to work if it were socially acceptable, to be honest!

Verdict: This all top box this month was alright. It didn’t blow my mind or disappoint me either necessarily. It didn’t feel as customized to my tastes as the month prior’s selections, but there were some great versatile pieces included this time around. My favorites were the Rebel Wilson and Lucky Brand tops, but the prices were a bit too high for me to justify keeping them. The prices reflect the high-quality brands that Nordstrom carries, though, and if you love Nordstrom, Trunk Club is definitely for you!  Trunk Club is all about bringing the luxuries of Nordstrom directly to your home. It is all about convenience as well with the app and the free UPS pick up option for when you return your Trunk Club pieces. I, for one, will always praise their app because it allows me to communicate with my stylist, Stefania, easily and schedule trunks. That feature is definitely one that makes Trunk Club stand out for me!

I like the selections for you-maybe not what I would choose-but nice choices. Going to try Trunk Club to shake up my wardrobe a bit. Thanks for the review

The Vince Camuto Handkerchief sleeve sweater needs to be renamed the Bounty Quicker Picker Upper sleeve sweater! That has to be the most ridiculous sleeve I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a LOT of fails. We may be in the midst of a conspiracy of dry cleaners…

So glad that so many others have pointed out that you’re ready to go down a size (and that you’re listening!) Totally agree about the concept of “vanity sizing” especially when dealing with the high-end stores like Norstrom. BTW, I think it was Ralph Lauren who started that trend in the ’80s with his very expensive butt-label jeans. Think Brooke Shields “Nothing comes between me and my Calvin Kleins” billboards splashed all over Times Square. I know I saved my pennies for months to buy a pair because I fit into the single-digit size!

Your reviews are so great, Nicole!

Keep that whole box, you beautiful girl (unless you need to exchange for sizes)! Any thoughts on Trunk Club vs. Stitch Fix vs. Dia & Co?

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Awe thank you, Connie! I love all three tbh, but I always suggest trying Gwynnie Bee first because they are a rental service and you can try styles out you may never thought to. It is super fun. And the items are discounted if you buy them since they have been worn by others. All three boxes are great, but it really depends on price points. If you join any of the three you mentioned, make sure to create a pinterest to show your stylist! It goes a long way for them to have that visual!

Pssssst…(whispers) You’re not a 3X anymore, girl! That said, I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and order that Lucky Brand top. It’s the second time I’ve seen someone get it in a box and I’ve been super-jealous both times. Also, I love how you wear your grandfather’s leather vest. You have such a strong sense of style and know exactly what works.

Truth! I told my stylist I need 2x size stuff sent my way at this point. Like I have lost a lot of weight on my upper half and eh some on the bottom. Thick as ever in the hips… which makes me happy! However, it is hard to gauge what size will work for me! hahaha. And yes, that top is so amazing, you should definitely get it!

And thanks! I can fit in it again, so I decided I had to style it with the tops sent to me this time around. And thank you! Fashion is an obsession and I constantly love to play around with styles and tweak things. Thanks again, AmyM!

Jamie

I absolutely love everything on you from this box. I agree with others that maybe you should size down one or two sizes next time for the perfect fit. However, you look fab either way.

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Jamie! Yeah, I told my stylist to send things in a small size going forward. I am so allover the place in my sizes these days, but I want to represent things perfectly for you guys.

LorieLynn

Thank you for showing these tops untucked as well. I don’t tuck in my shirts and it was nice to see, please keep don’t that for us not as confident as you

Nicole Rieder

LorieLyn,

No problem. I wanted to make sure to show the items in various ways for you guys to get a gauge on how it looks. I am glad to help so you know what may or may not work for you! And I get it in terms of levels of comfortability for sure.

Thanks again for checking out my review!

Genna

I agree! I don’t think the items are ‘ cut roomy ‘ or ‘run large’, I think you’re losing weight!! Maybe time to size down.. you always look fab by the way.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Genna, you are probably right. I think I am so used to being a solid 3x it is weird for me to realize I need a size down! I did advise Stefania I probably will need a 2x most of the time, especially for more billowy styles. I don’t want to do a disservice for you guys by reviewing the wrong size on me. 😊

Kc

You’re losing weight and always look so stylish 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Kc. It is so weird because I haven’t lost much weight in terms of my pants size, But I guess I have on top. I am allover the place in sizes these days. But I told my stylist to start giving.me 2xes going forward. Thanks again!
