Rose War Panty Power January 2018 Review
I love that this month's welcome note and info are printed on a sheet of paper and folded up like origami! Finding the folded piece of paper reminded me of my school days when I would pass notes that looked like this. The Rose War team circled which 3 of the possible 6 gift options are included in my box this month.
Natracare Organic 100% Cotton Tampons with Applicator — Estimated Value $5.62 (Buy a 16-pack of regular size for $6.42)
This month, I received 12 Super tampons and 2 of the Regular size. I tend to use both each month, but more Super than Regular, so this amount is perfect for me! These Natracare tampons have cardboard applicators and braided strings. They're pretty straightforward as far as application and wear are concerned.
rå goods Lemongrass Essential Oil, 5ml — Retail Value $10.95
Of all the essential oils I've collected over the years, I've never had lemongrass. Its scent is so refreshing and optimistic! This particular oil was organically farmed in Nepal. Awesome! Lemongrass is commonly used as a cooking oil, to reduce mental fatigue, as a bug repellant, and as an air deodorizer.
Cougar Perfect Pout Lip Plumper, 0.33oz — Retail Value $20.62 USD (£14.99)
I've used lip plumpers in the past, more out of curiosity than the real desire to plump my lips, and found that they make my lips itchy and tingly in a way that I don't desire to experience daily. I keep a pretty natural look, with light makeup, if any, so it doesn't seem natural for me to reach for a lip plumper. But, I figured I'd give this one a try! First off, it goes on clear and not colored, which I like. It's very thick and sticky, so I kept my lips parted for about a minute after applying to let it do its work. It did feel tingly, though in more of a Blistex type of way—almost in a cooling way. The scent seems consistent with that Blistex experience, too.
The Cougar website says:
"With an active ingredient of Volulip, this lip plumper mimic’s hyaluronic acid injection by doubling its synthesis level but also strongly stimulates the synthesis of matrix and dermal-epidermal junction molecules."
I'm not sure what any of that means, but like I said, I'm also not very experienced with beauty products. In the end, my lips did feel and look plumper, but I ultimately ended up wiping it off because it was still a little sticky even after a few minutes.
Stall Mates Portable, Flushable Wipes — Buy a 30-pack for $10.44
I received Stall Mates singles in a previous subscription box and thought they were a great item to include! In the first two days of my period, when things are heavier and run the risk of being a bit messier, I like having something like these wipes in my purse so I can feel as hygienic as possible while at work or out 'n' about. I wouldn't mind getting a few of these wipes in my box every month!
Mooi Lab Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Tea Tree Soap Bar — Retail Value $6.50
I am a huge proponent of using natural, handmade soaps, so I'm really excited about this bar! First off, the combo of eucalyptus, peppermint, and tea tree oil are a nice gender-neutral blend, which I like to use so that my husband and any guests we might have staying in our home feel like they can choose from the full range of all the well-thought-out products I keep in our shower. But, I also love the cooling effect of these oils—it makes me feel that much more squeaky clean! Finally, this product is vegan, cruelty-free, and does not contain harsh or harmful ingredients such as parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, or phthalates. Now, those are the healthy products I can get on board with!
This month's underwear came folded together and tucked in this protective plastic bag.
Here they are unfolded. I received a white thong with lace trim and a beige pair of high-waisted cotton underwear.
Maidenform High-Waisted Boyshort Panties — Estimated Value $10 (Similar pair found here, on sale for $5.99)
Here's the back of the cotton pair. I'm actually really excited about these! I recently had my eyes open to high-waisted underwear and find it to be very comfortable—it protects my lower back from itchy tags on high-rise pants! I also find that neutral-toned underwear is great to have on hand. Not very sexy, perhaps, but crucial for light-colored pants. Actually, the bra and underwear I wore for my wedding were beige because my vintage dress had such a thin material to it. I felt great knowing I could enjoy my wedding day without worrying about my undergarments showing through my dress!
Rene Rofe Lace-Trimmed Thong — Estimated Value $5.50
And, here's the back of the thong. I like that this pair has the cute lace touches without being overly sexy—those really alluring undergarments just don't get much use in my world, so a nice pair of feminine-but-functional underwear is my ideal.
Couque d'Asse White Torte Cookie — Buy an 18-pack for $2.45
Couque d'Asse Vienna Coffee Cookie —Buy an 18-pack for $2.45
Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Caramel Square — Buy a 3.5oz bar for $3.50
Kopiko Cappuccino Candies — Buy a 4.23oz bag for $1.63
Also included this month were a bunch of yummy treats! The Couque d'Asse cookies are like filled wafers with different-flavored creamy insides. The Ghirardelli square is pretty classic—it's filled with caramel. I'm a dark chocolate-lover, so I was excited about this one! And, the Kopiko cappuccino thingies are hard candies. Not really my thang, but I'll put them by the coffee maker at work and I'm sure my coworkers will love them.
Verdict: Rose War Panty Power started off 2018 strong! It's hard to go wrong with something as useful as tampons, but I'm also loving my new lemongrass essential oil, handmade soap, and high-waisted underwear. Everything else is just an awesome bonus! Per my estimations, the items in my box add up to approximately $60, which is a great value for a $29.20 box, especially if you're excited about the lip plumper (a high price point item for this box).
