Fair Trade Friday is an organization that helps to empower women and battle poverty through dignified, sustainable industry (craftsmanship). They have three subscriptions to choose from that send fairly traded items from around the world: The Original Box, Bracelet of the Month, and Earrings of the Month. I have subscribed to the Earring of the Month box for years now, and I am really excited to have this opportunity to review the Original Box!

This review is of the $32.99 a month Fair Trade Friday Original Box.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This pamphlet was included. It has information on all the contents of this month’s package, plus information on the artisans who created them. It’s really informative!

These little cards were also included, giving some info on Fair Trade Friday and their parent organization, Mercy House Global.

Scarf by Batik Boutique

Scarf by Batik Boutique – Listed Value $46

This cotton scarf is just lovely! I love the colors. This scarf was made by Batik Boutique exclusively for Fair Trade Friday! It’s nice and lightweight for the transition to spring. This scarf was hand-batiked in Malaysia! They did not have scarves for sale in their online shop, but they do have many other beautiful things.

Calendar by Saidpur Enterprises

Calendar by Saidpur Enterprises – Listed Value $18.99

This is such a sweet idea. You change out the month and day of the calendar and you can see on the card a suggestion for a good deed to do every day! This calendar was handmade by impoverished women in Bangladesh as a means to help support their families.

Room Spray by Thistle Farms

Room Spray by Thistle Farms – Retail Value $12

This room spray smells great! It’s lavender scented. It’s a great alternative to some of the commercially available room sprays, as it is made from all natural ingredients. This was actually made in Nashville, Tennessee by Thistle Farms, which works to help trafficking survivors!

The Verdict: I really enjoyed my first package from Fair Trade Friday Original Box! I will definitely use everything, but of course, the pretty scarf is my favorite. I really like all the information they provide to show how your subscription directly impacts the lives of others. It makes the subscription seem that much more special.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. In order to receive the box of the month, you must subscribe before the 24th of the previous month. Order today to receive the February box.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $32.99 shipped. It included three items, so the average cost per item is $11. The total suggested retail for the items is $76.99, which means the savings on this box is about 57%.
