California Found December 2017 Review

california found january 2018 booklet

california found january 2018 note cards

Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative.

8 oz. Candle in Glass Apothecary Container in muslin

8 oz. Candle in Glass Apothecary Container

8 oz. Candle in Glass Apothecary Container top

8 oz. Candle in Glass Apothecary Container – Retail Value $25

This candle made the entire box smell completely amazing! The scent is called “Laguna”, and it’s a blend of jasmine, sea salt, and sweet cream. It definitely reminds me of the ocean. It’s a clean-burning soy wax with an approximate burn time of 50 hours. The glass container is so beautiful and made from 50% recycled content. I love it!

Mini Basket by LKLYDesigns and notecard

Mini Basket by LKLYDesigns

Mini Basket by LKLYDesigns – Retail Value $18

This little basket is adorable! It was hand-crocheted from jute and hemp, so it is very sturdy and holds its shape really well while still being somewhat malleable. I think this could be really useful to hold little things like safety pins, but it can also be used as a succulent planter! Cute!

Seedless Raspberry Spread by Just Jan's

Seedless Raspberry Spread by Just Jan's

Seedless Raspberry Spread by Just Jan’s – Retail Value $6.95

The first thing I noticed, and loved, about this spread was the ingredients list. Raspberries, sugar, lemon juice, fruit pectin. Done. It makes me really happy to see a short list of ingredients I am all familiar with! The sugar content is fairly low, too, for what it is. It also tastes delicious! My kids are big fans!

Charcoal & Lavender Facial Exfoliant by ADME Apothecary

Charcoal & Lavender Facial Exfoliant by ADME Apothecary with notecard

Charcoal & Lavender Facial Exfoliant by ADME Apothecary, 2 oz. – Retail Value $32

This is my favorite kind of skincare product, the mask that disintegrates into a scrub. This is made of just three ingredients, charcoal, French green clay, and lavender. So, obviously, it smells great! I have sensitive skin, and it did not cause any problems, plus it left my skin feeling clean and smooth. It was also not drying, which is sometimes a problem with clay and charcoal. I love this!

Venice Beach Scenic Greeting Card Collection by Inky Mess Press packaged

Venice Beach Scenic Greeting Card Collection by Inky Mess Press

Venice Beach Scenic Greeting Card Collection by Inky Mess Press – Retail Value $20

I absolutely love getting interesting note cards in subscription boxes, and these are so amazing! They are printed on a press using hand-carved linoleum blocks, and the prints are glued onto craft paper. They are so pretty! They almost seem too beautiful to use, but I know whoever I send these to will appreciate them.

14K Gold-Fill Freshwater Pearl Necklace by K. Leone Designs notecard

14K Gold-Fill Freshwater Pearl Necklace by K. Leone Designs closeup

14K Gold-Fill Freshwater Pearl Necklace by K. Leone Designs – Listed Value $42

I could not find this particular necklace for sale in K. Leone Designs’ online shop, so I am using the value listed on the card. This little necklace is so special! The gold-fill chain is very fine and delicate, and the freshwater pearl is tiny and just stunning. I want to say that this would be a great layering necklace, which it would, but I think it is also fully capable of standing on its own. I love it!

The Verdict: My first box from California Found was completely a grand slam! I absolutely love everything I received! I love artisan boxes because I know everything I am getting has that extra level of specialness, and this is definitely one of the best location-specific artisan boxes I have ever received. It’s hard to even choose a favorite item, I love everything I received!

  5. Great box!

    • Thank you!

  6. Maybe a typo? “A minimum of $9 worth of…” 🙂

    • Yep, corrected. At least $90 of value.

  7. I am East Coast bound in the next year or so – I will miss California but now I know which box I will need most!!! 🙂 …… love the candle, the cards and the necklace!!!

  8. Ahhh, I just moved away from LA in August and this makes me miss it more than ever! California is an awesome, diverse state definitely deserving of its own sub box. The price is worth it for these special finds, and I can’t wait to see what comes next!

  9. I used to live in California and my son would spend his summers with his Godfather in SoCal so this box is what I have been looking for to bring a bit of west coast to our east coast home 3,000 miles away. I just signed up. Wish I could get this December box. On their website they do have a spoiler for the January box and I’m looking forward to it (a cute little leather crossbody pouch).

  10. … I wasn’t aware California was lost. 😋

    • LOL Marion! I guess depends who you ask…seems there are a lot of people out there who think so… 😉

      Looks like a great box!

  11. I hope that “guaranteed to have $9 value” is a typo for a box that costs $49. That’s not a deal, at all.

    • Thanks for catching! It should read $90 – the review has been updated 🙂 – Sara

  12. What an awesome box!! I love the idea of it, $50 is just too steep for me. Almost rather spend $50/month on local stuff here. But definitely a great box, I’ll have to keep my eye on it!
