Now, let's talk products and how I used them!
Here's my bare face! As usual, I started with the basics: skincare followed by a luminizing primer, tinted moisturizer, concealer, and brows. Boxycharm's product assortment always really impresses me, and testing out many of the warm, glowy items inside this box required a blank canvas.
First up in items to try were the Crown WH035 PRO BLUSH BRUSH and Beaute Basics Bronze Essentials kit. Although this brush's name suggests that you use it for blush (which, spoiler, I also did!), its narrow head and densely packed bristles allow it to work great for bronzer application as well. I applied the darkest matte tone liberally along my cheekbones (left) and blended it out (right). The shade is a little darker and warmer than what I prefer on my pale complexion, but it worked. It also blended nicely.
Next: blush! My favorite. For this, I used the Real Her Blush Kit which includes 3 shimmery hues. I love a really fresh-faced, flushed blush look, so I was happy to see that these shades are pretty bright and saturated. For the sparkly pink look that I decided on, the Fearless shade worked perfectly on my cheekbones. I blended it down and applied a bit of Limitless, a less shimmery coral shade, on the apples of my cheeks. These colors provide a nice glow to the skin without being overtly glittery -- exactly what I was after for my 'going out' makeup look. I do wish that the formula of these blushes was a bit softer and more pigmented, though.
As a highlighter, I went with the shimmery gold shade in the Beaute Basics Bronze Essentials palette. The result was a bit MUCH for me, but it was fun for evening! I felt like it sat on my skin in sort of a weird way and enhanced my pores a bit, but I guess you'll have that with more intense powder highlighters (I use a subtle, gel stick formula for every day). It gave my skin a really beautiful, ethereal glow! Here are two photos to show different angles. Really accentuated my cheekbones! I popped a dusting of the gold onto my lids and cupid's bow as well.
Now, eyes. To continue the pink, metallic-y theme, I went with a light pink cream shadow and topped it with a mix of several different metallic powder shades. From the BoxyCharm box, I was most excited about the Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara, and it was applied after curling my lashes. I loved this mascara so much! The brush is plastic and the comb really grips each individual lash. It sort of reminded me of They're Real from Benefit but with a slightly thinner wand.
I finished the look with black liquid liner and the Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Liquid Lipstick in 108 Particularly Sophisticated: a shade I never thought I'd love as much as I did. It's metallic but the finish isn't glossy. Super unique. I usually go for a matte lip and was afraid that the metallic finish would appear dated, but it totally didn't.
My finished look! I was really happy with the way that these products worked together. The tones played off of each other well!
I hope this little walk-through of my look was helpful in giving you a good idea of what some of these products are like on the face! I'd love to know if you received any variations of these products. What did you think about the December Boxycharm box? Which items were your favorites, and what do you continue to reach for?
