Vegan Cuts Snack Box December 2017 Review

I think Vegan Cuts has really stepped things up lately in terms of snack box curation. Let’s see what they sent for December:

The box came with this information card detailing the items in the box. There are also usually coupons and/or product literature.

Veggicopia Green Olives

Veggicopia Green Olives (1oz) – Buy 16 packs for $14.96

I love olives. I ate these immediately after taking pictures for the box. There were quite a few in there for only 50 calories. (These were not stuffed with pimentos or anything like that.)

Enjoy Life Dark Chocolate Morsels Snack Pack

Enjoy Life Dark Chocolate Morsels Snack Pack (1 oz) – Buy 9 oz for $6.29

I don’t know if I will get used to chocolate chips packaged as a snack, I tend to think of them more for baking. These were honestly pretty standard for vegan chocolate chips (this brand’s products are free of the 8 major allergens, so they are definitely a good idea for multi-allergy households).

Bobalu Almonds with Tajin

Bobalu Almonds with Tajin (1.8 oz) – Buy 20 oz for $13.99

These have been showing up in food subscription boxes kind of often lately (including in a past Vegan Cuts Snack Box, if I remember correctly). I do like them. They are salty and have a bit of heat.

Stacey & Mom Original Lotus/Burdock Root Chips

Stacey & Mom Original Lotus/Burdock Root Chips (? Size) – Buy 1.4 oz for $10

I am not sure what is going on with this product. Long after I took photos for the box, I happened to glance at the back of the package looking for calorie information (which is not there…) and the back was a front label for a different product. I *think* we got a mix of lotus and burdock root chips, but it was hard to tell. At any rate, they were dense and starchy and whew, was there a strong garlic flavor.

Mini Pops Air Popped Sorghum in Lemon

Mini Pops Air Popped Sorghum in Lemon (0.7 oz) – Buy 6 bags for $6.99

I don’t think I’ve ever eaten sorghum before. This is popped like popcorn and the pieces are really small. The lemon flavor was subtle. I liked the flavor and texture but I am not really down with the tiny size of this product, which makes the pieces hard to eat.

Madecasse Mint Crunch Dark Chocolate Bar

Madecasse Mint Crunch Dark Chocolate Bar (2.64 oz) – Retail Value $4.50

I will never complain about a fancy chocolate bar. I liked the crunchiness here and the mint was at a wonderful level. Plus, with lots of tiny squares, it is easy to consume only a little at a time instead of gorging yourself.

Lemon Ginger Rice Delights

Lemon Ginger Rice Delights (1.41 oz) – Retail Value $1.99

I definitely think there is a need for a vegan or vegetarian version of a Rice Krispie treat, which is what this is. I loved the texture. I was not sold on the flavor, which reminded me a little too much of Fantastik cleaning spray. I’d be happy to try one of their other flavors, though.

Kashi Chocolate Almond Sea Salt Chewy Granola Bar

Kashi Chocolate Almond Sea Salt Chewy Granola Bar (1.2 oz) – Buy 6 bars for $3.09

Kashi bars show up in this subscription fairly regularly. I can’t remember if we’ve had this one before or not (they all kind of run together for me). This was a pretty standard chewy granola bar with a fair amount of chocolate added to it. If this was a type of product I regularly bought, I’d definitely consider this one.

Eli’s Earth Bars Treasure Bar

Eli’s Earth Bars Treasure Bar (1.5 oz) – Retail Value $2.29

This was a new discovery for me and it was delicious. Like, normally I strongly prefer milk chocolate over dark chocolate, and this was vegan, and I didn’t even miss the milk chocolate. (This was basically a candy bar.)

Ocho Dark Chocolate PB

Ocho Dark Chocolate PB (1.5 oz) – Retail Value $1.99

Here is another chocolate candy bar that I really liked. I’ve had Ocho bars before (and I think they also make some mini bars or bites) but this one was better. For what it’s worth, I think it was a lot fresher than the ones I’ve had in the past. But also I like the peanut butter in it a lot.

Endangered Species Chocolate Bark with Almonds and Peanuts

Endangered Species Chocolate Bark with Almonds and Peanuts (4.7 oz) – Buy 12 bags for $56.62

MORE CHOCOLATE. Seriously not complaining, though. This was also really good and another case of me not really missing milk-based ingredients in this product. The small pieces make it easy to portion out carefully and the amount provided was quite generous.

Nutiva Organic Hazelnut Spread

Nutiva Organic Hazelnut Spread (box of 10, 0.78 oz pouches) – Retail Value $9.99

This has been making the food subscription box rounds for at least six months now and I have had it in every form imaginable – a full jar, individual pouches, this box, the dark chocolate kind, the milk chocolate kind, etc. Pouches are not my favorite delivery mechanism for this product because I think it is hard to get everything out. But they are handy if you are on-the-go. My husband will actually be eating most of these as after-work snacks. Think of this as being like Nutella but with more natural ingredients (I think it’s quite similar, anyway, after having tried both).

La Croix Curate in Cherry Lime

La Croix Curate in Cherry Lime (12 fl oz) – Buy 8 cans for $4.39 (found here for $3.99)

I’ve seen this at Target but never bought it before. We do sometimes pick up some flavored sparkling water and after getting this, I’d be at least a little tempted to add this brand/product to the mix. Cherry lime was a good flavor for them to send out, to get me hooked!

Road’s End Organics Quick Gravy

Road’s End Organics Quick Gravy (1 oz) – Retail Value $1.39

This box came AFTER our weekly grocery run, and we didn’t have any meals planned that would work with gravy, so I’m saving it for next week. I have tried making vegetarian/vegan gravy before, and it takes a lot of work and a ton of ingredients, though, and if I end up liking this, I’d definitely be up for placing a large order, because it has most of the same things (e.g., soy sauce) already mixed together in a convenient package.

Verdict: This month’s Vegan Cuts Snack Box had 14 items for an average value per item of about $1.64. I think this was a great month. I am a chocolate fiend and there was SO MUCH CHOCOLATE in this box. But, unlike some other food subscription boxes that shall remain nameless, Vegan Cuts sent this at an appropriate time of year (i.e., when it won’t all melt in my mailbox!). Although there were a few repeat items from past box, the promise is 7-10 items and this had 14, so I am not going to complain. There were plenty of new-to-me products, as well.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box would be January’s box, but some of the products may be available from the Vegan Cuts shop. Check out our January spoilers!
