Pet Gift Box for Cats December 2017 Review

There are usually a few treats in this box, but mostly toys. Let’s see what Pet Gift Box sent for December:

The box came with this information card.

There was also an offer to get a picture of your pet printed on a pillow. I’ve received at least 3 or 4 of these offer cards so far this month.

Vo-Toys Holiday Wishes (3 pack mice with bells)

Vo-Toys Holiday Wishes (3 pack mice with bells) – Estimated Value $3.19

Vo-Toys products sometimes show up on wholesale sites but are, in general, difficult to find for sale online. I’ve estimated the price based on a suggested retail value of another Vo-Toys 3-pack of mouse toys. Anyway, these are quite small and they have a woven or knitted texture with bells on the ends of the tails. I suspect the yarnlike covering will be interesting to Madison in time, but right now these are totally Angus items.

X-Pet Holiday Stocking with 8 Toys

X-Pet Holiday Stocking with 8 Toys – Estimated Value $9.99

Here is another one that is difficult to find online except from resellers. I’ve linked to an Amazon item that has the same description (since it notes that “styles vary”). There are a few things in here that I know will be of interest to my crew. The sparkly balls are a Mr. Kitty thing (he chews on them) and there is a dangler in there (see below) and the hard balls have been great for both Monkey and Angus.

Get Naked Urinary Health Treats

Get Naked Urinary Health Treats (2.5 oz) – Retail Value $3.99 (found here for $3.39)

I thought I had seen just about every brand of cat treats out there, but these are new. Sneaky loved these, which is great since she is most in need of them (her asthma medicine messes with her urinary system). These have cranberry for urinary health and are grain free and made in the USA.

Imperial Cat Refillable Snowman

Imperial Cat Refillable Snowman – Retail Value $6.50

This is our second one of these for the month, but that’s OK because my cats have a newfound appreciation for refillable toys (especially when I am messy with the filling part and get catnip all over the outside). I got Monkey to lick this (not all that difficult to do, for what it’s worth).

Christmas Snapcat from Charming

Christmas Snapcat from Charming – Retail Value $8.49

You squeeze one end of this and the other end (with the feathers) moves. Most of the cats were fascinated by this (if not pouncing on it, at least watching it with interest).

Gratuitous cat photo time…

Angus eats a treat.

Angus with the snapcat toy. (He pounced on it a lot, but it’s hard to operate it with one hand and take a picture with the other.)

There was a dangler toy in the stocking. Angus preferred playing with the “wrong” end.

Madison tries a treat.

Madison investigates the snapcat toy.

Madison poses with the snowman.

Monkey rubs his chin on a treat instead of eating it.

Monkey licks the snowman.

Monkey rubs his chin on the sparkle ball.

Sneaky tries the treats. (In the second photo, the treat is long gone and she has latched onto my thumb…)

Sneaky was pretty interested in this sparkle ball, too.

He really wasn’t up to playing with toys, and of course, he can’t have the treats (they contain chicken), but I thought you all might want to see how Mr. Kitty was doing after his eye removal surgery. He will have to wear the cone for a little while yet so he is kind of crusty, but we are doing the best we can to keep him cleaned up.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $32.16 for the December Pet GiftBox for cats. I did have to estimate some of the values but I think the overall value turned out all right, even if I’m off by a little since a month-to-month subscription is $25 and cat subscription box values often run low. For what it’s worth, I like getting the larger packages with a bunch of smaller toys, too, because even though each individual toy is inexpensive, my cats often like the simplest toys the best (so the stocking full of small items was a huge hit). The treats are a great find, too.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box would be January’s (though check the Pet Gift Box shop as sometimes old boxes show up there).

Value Breakdown: At a cost of $25 per month, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Mouse toy 3-pack $2.48
  • Christmas stocking with 8 toys $7.77
  • Urinary health treats $3.10
  • Refillable snowman $5.05
  • Snapcat toy $6.60

All things considered Mr. Kitty looks good! Hopefully the surgery will mean going forward he doesn’t have to deal with eye discomfort. Here’s hoping the time in the cone goes by quickly for him!

He’s really doing better than expected. I think he will get the cone off in about a week.
