MyVitamins Snack Box November 2017 Review

This box typically contains vitamins suitable for a wide range of people in addition to healthy snacks. What’s fun about the snacks here is they are typically British (sometimes from other European countries) so they are not the same things you see in US-based snack boxes over and over again:

I did not receive an information card in this box.

Myvitamins Vitamin B Complex bottle

Myvitamins Vitamin B Complex 5 pills

Myvitamins Vitamin B Complex (90 tablets, vegetarian) – Retail Value $5.08

Some B vitamins are lacking in vegan diets so it can be important to supplement them. B vitamins are associated with various aspects of metabolism and energy, and biotin is a B vitamin sometimes thought to enhance hair and nail growth. (For people with certain conditions, like Crohn’s disease, you would be better off with injections than oral supplements, though, as oral supplements may not be absorbed in the intestinal tract.) These are somewhat large and have a “vitamin-y” taste and smell. It is hard to overdose on B vitamins because they are water soluble, so you’d eliminate any excess in your urine. These are pretty big, but not really any more difficult to swallow than a typical multivitamin.

Myvitamins D3 Softgels bottle

Myvitamins D3 Softgels 3 pills

Myvitamins D3 Softgels (30 count, not vegetarian) – Retail Value $6.69 (found here for $5.21)

Vitamin D3 is important for calcium absorption. These are pretty small, which is nice. However, the softgels contain gelatin so I wasn’t able to try them. If you are not vegetarian and don’t get much sun in the winter, this could be a good way to get the vitamin D3 you need.

Myvitamins Kelp bottle

Myvitamins Kelp 4 pills

Myvitamins Kelp (30 capsules, vegetarian) – Buy 90 Capsules for $12.72

Kelp can be a good supplement for vegans and vegetarians as it contains iron as well as some B vitamins. It also has iodine, which is important for thyroid function. The deep green color is also associated with antioxidants. As with most supplements, continued use for a period of time is important in order to tell if it’s working.

Deliciously Ella Energy Ball in Coconut + Oat

Deliciously Ella Energy Ball in Coconut + Oat (40g) – Retail Value $2.13

We received one of these in September’s box as well. I remember that one being quite good. This one was a bit dry/tough but I suspect it was a little older (natural snacks that are preservative free don’t have quite as long of a shelf life). It definitely helps to be a coconut fan.

Nakd Banana Crunch bar and wrapper

Nakd Banana Crunch (30g) – Retail Value $1.19

This is a pretty standard fruit and nut sort of bar. I like the smaller size; it has fewer calories than a lot of similar American snacks, which makes it easier to fit into my calorie goals for the day. The banana flavor was subtle and not artificial-tasting at all.

Nakd Banana Crunch bar and wrapper

Nakd Cashew Cookie (30g) – Retail Value $1.19

This was a nutty version of the above snack. It had a few more calories than the banana one, probably due to the higher nut content. I am trying to get more healthful fats into my diet (I feel they help with winter dry skin) so this was welcome. I am a fan of cashews so the flavor here was great for me, too.

Myprotein Protein Hot Mocha pouch

Myprotein Protein Hot Mocha (50g) – Buy 1 kg for $18.75

I like getting protein powders in subscription boxes; I use them in my morning smoothies. The coffee part of the mocha was not too strong here, which I appreciate as I am not a coffee fan. This is a dairy-based protein so it blended particularly well. (This is meant to be consumed as a hot beverage but that is not really something I do with protein powders, especially coffee-flavored ones…)

Truestart Hero Coffee + Peanut Butter Bar

Truestart Hero Coffee + Peanut Butter Bar (43g) – Buy 12 Bars for $26.79

Whether you like this depends largely on how much of a coffee fan you are, as I felt the coffee flavor was quite strong. My husband enjoyed his half of this, me less so (but he likes coffee and I hate it). I can definitely see how this would give you n energy boost in the morning, though.

Pure Bite Popped Rice Clusters in Blueberry and Cranberry

Pure Bite Popped Rice Clusters in Blueberry and Cranberry (20g) – Retail Value $2

I’ve had American snacks that were quite a bit like this. These were sweet but not overly so, and you could eat quite a lot of bulk here without filling up on calories. I think these would be good if you want something kind of like rice cakes without the same texture as a rice cake (smaller bites and fruit bits makes the texture a bit more appealing than rice cake texture).

Verdict: The November 2017 My Vitamins Snack Box included 9 items. The items you could purchase individually totaled $18.28, which leaves $9.86 spread over the remaining 3 items, or about $3.29 per item. This seems fair, especially considering one of those remaining 3 items was the kelp supplement. This box fills a particular niche that I don’t think any other subscriptions boxes have covered right now – there are vitamin boxes, and there are snack boxes, but there aren’t really any that consistently combine the two, so it is unique from that perspective. I think the price is fair considering this comes from the UK, and I like that the snacks are different than what you see in other snack boxes. The Nakd bars were particular favorites this month, and overall I think there was a nice trend towards energy enhancement in the products (coffee in the Truestart bar, mocha protein, B vitamins, kelp with iodine, etc.) that may not have been deliberate but works well for the winter months.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, charges are processed on the 20th of each month with shipping shortly thereafter, so you’d receive either the December or January box as your first one.
