Cat Lady Box December 2017 Review

This month's theme is Meowy Holidays!

Cat Lady Box December 2017 Booklet Front

Cat Lady Box December 2017 Booklet back

I love how the information cards have custom artwork every month. And the back has more information about the items in the box.

pair of clear short glasses with cat graphic

Vintage Cats Cocktail Glasses – Listed Value $29.99

These are so cool. I don’t drink, but I can totally use them for juice or something. Do be aware, they are hand-wash only (in order to protect the designs printed on the outside of the glass).

cat face string lights out of the box

Glowing Cat String Light Set – Listed Value $9.99

These are festive! They take 3 AA batteries (not included) and operate using a switch, so you can put them anywhere and you aren’t limited to places where you have an outlet. The cat shapes are some kind of metal.

cat face string lights lit up

Here are the lights on my basement stairs (the only dark place in the house at the time I was taking photos).

black t-shirt with white cat and snowflake graphic

Winter Snowkitty Shirt – Listed Value $23.99

You’ll get a wearable item most months with this box. This month it is a cute t-shirt. I live in cat t-shirts on the weekend and this one is nice and comfortable if a bit big (the smallest shirt size they offer is S). It is still warm enough in Georgia to get by with short sleeves and this is easy to pair with jeans.

Cardinal cat toy

Wild Cardinal Catnip Toy – Listed Value $4.99

Since this is the “Crazy” Cat Lady version of the box, there were a couple of cat toys included. These are exclusive to the box and they match the wintry theme quite nicely. This is a small, plush cardinal with a puff of fuzz on top that several cats were really into.Reindeer cat toy

Mitchell the Moose Catnip Toy – Listed Value $5.99

This is adorable. It’s another catnip plush. Monkey loved it so much, he wouldn’t stop rubbing his chin on it. This is maybe a little larger than the cardinal, but still a nice, small size (which is my cats’ preference for toys).

Here are some cat pictures for you! They were sleepy when I took these, so there’s not much action:

Black and white cat playing with red and black cardinal toy

Angus’s favorite thing about the cardinal toy was the fuzz on top of its head.

Black cat with red toy

Madison looks pretty good next to a red toy!

Cat with reindeer toy

More chin rubbing from Monkey. This is all he does anymore.

Sneaky Cat with toy

Sneaky greets the moose toy. She was fascinated by the shadows it made on the wall behind her, it was pretty funny to watch (but not easy to photograph).

Mr. Kitty is recovering from surgery right now (he had to have an eye removed) so he will not be appearing in cat subscription box reviews for awhile. He is doing OK (I will provide status updates) but he is not looking his best right now and I don’t want to bother him.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $75 for the December 2017 (Crazy) Cat Lady Box. That is definitely more than I paid for the box, even though I think $30 for the glasses might be a bit high. I liked the winter theme and I thought all the items were tasteful things I don’t mind displaying in my home. Plus, my cats liked the toys.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Orders have to be placed by the 22nd of the previous month. So if you sign up today, you'll receive the January box.

Coupon – Now through 12/15, use coupon code GIFTMEOW to save 15% off of any length subscription!

  • Glowing Cat String Light Set: $5.33
  • Winter Snowkitty Shirt: $12.80
  • Wild Cardinal Catnip Toy: $2.66

All, Mr. Kitty is doing all right. He still looks kind of gruesome (crusty discharge, stitches, plus his cone collar makes him unable to groom himself) but you can just tell he is feeling much better, and the veterinary ophthalmologist’s people will clean him up later this week when he goes in for a check up. He can still jump up on furniture (a three foot high desk!) using only one eye and he has a great appetite, which is a good thing considering his IBD.

Not sure when he will be appearing in reviews again but hopefully it won’t be too long. He is ready to get OUT of the room where we’re keeping him. I don’t think he could see out of the missing eye anyway, so it is more a case of his vision being the same but him being in a lot less pain now.

Purrs to Mr. Kitty from my five kitties!

A friend of mine had a cat who had an eye taken out, and the vets said that it’s not as hard on cats (and dogs) to lose an eye as it would be for humans, because cats’ and dogs’ hearing and sense of smell are so much better than ours, so they don’t rely on vision as much as we do.

Dogs and cats also don’t have the psychological hangups we have when losing a body part. They just kind of go, “well, this is life now and it hurts less than it did before!” and go about their lives. I’ve had a few friends with animals that have had animals lose body parts and it always seems to bother the people more than the animals! (when I say “bother,” I mean the owner feels bad for the animals, NOT like the animal is no longer perfect)

Hugs to Mr. Kitty!

Hi Ragan – can you comment on the thickness of the t-shirt material? I just bought the “cat lady squad” t-shirt from them, and the material is definitely on the thin side. How does this t-shirt material compare to that of the “squad” t-shirt? I want to buy this too.

Ragan

I don’t have the “Cat Lady Squad” t-shirt (only the hoodie, which is a different item).

It is hard to make generalizations about the shirts with this subscription because they make an effort to use different styles (some long sleeves, some short sleeves, some with a looser fit or a different neckline, etc.). This seems like a reasonable thickness to me (not super heavy) but I know people’s standards are different.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

Thank you! It sounds like you like it – if it were see-through thin you would have mentioned it. I’ll buy it – love the print. And thank you for showing us the card with the artist’s name – I now have a new favorite cat artist!
