Bulu Box Weight Loss December 2017 Review
There are box variations, and sometimes rather heavy product promotion, so you may not always get the same box as someone else or be able to make the connection to weight loss for each product:
The information cards are now generic rather than describing your items.
There are usually coupons (which may or may not be for items in the box), product literature, advertisements for other subscriptions, etc.
Dukan Chocolate Chip Oat Bran Cookies (3) – Buy 18 Cookies for $7.99
The Dukan Diet is a low-carb, high-protein diet, whereas I prefer to eat like 60% carbs. That is probably why I am not a huge fan of these cookies. They are rather hard and fibrous. Three together are 140 calories and I’d honestly rather just eat a 140-calorie cookie with more sugar and butter in it. (I lost 45 pounds in 2016 by counting calories.) But, if you are exploring low-carb options, I suppose these are worth a try.

Zicam Medicated Fruit Drops (5) – Buy 25 Drops for $22.40
These are thickened with pectin so they are vegetarian! Zinc is a homeopathic remedy for colds and I think the only homeopathic remedy ever to have any science to back it up. (Zinc products, while they are backed up by some evidence, are sold as homeopathic remedies because there is much less regulation since homeopathic remedies traditionally have low-to-no concentrations of active ingredients.) If taken within 24 hours of the start of cold symptoms, zinc can reduce the severity and/or duration of a cold. I did eat one of these and thought it tasted all right, but I can’t say whether they work because I have not felt a cold was coming on since I received this box.

Sheer Pre-X in Cotton Candy (1 serving) – Buy 30 Servings for $64.99
This has a lot of caffeine and, weirdly, a hefty amount of salt for a pre-workout supplement. It is sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame K. It also has taurine and black pepper extract, which are fairly common in energy promoting supplements. I would not regularly consume this type of pre-workout supplement because of the caffeine (I exercise at night and am on blood pressure medicine) but I did mix it up to try some. It is really weird to drink something that tastes like cotton candy, let me tell you. I’d also suggest making this at half-strength so the flavor isn’t overwhelming; it may be easier to take that way and I find myself wishing I’d tried that.
Zicam Rapidmelts (5) – Buy 25 Tablets for $13.99
I guess Zicam was promoting their products this month. Anyway, if you want to know more about zinc and colds, see the discussion of the fruit drops above. This is merely a different delivery mechanism. I am happy to receive these because I have not had the best luck with zinc lozenges in the past (didn’t like the flavor of the ones I had) so now I have options. But, like with the gummies, I can’t say whether these work because I haven’t caught a cold.

Ultra Hydration Vanilla Bean Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub (50 mL) – Estimated Value $1.50 (Buy 500 mL for $14.99)
I figured this was a body scrub based on the consistency – I don’t usually see face scrubs with quite this much oil, nor would I want to use a scrub with this much oil on my face. But the manufacturer’s website calls it a face scrub and then talks about using it on your body, so I guess it’s just sloppy editing. Anyway, I chose to use it as a body scrub and it smells really nice, plus I got what I feel to be decent exfoliation.

Trilane Squalane Anti-Aging Moisturizer in Lavender (1 fl oz) – Value $39.99
Although I’m not sure why a moisturizer appears in a fitness subscription box, I’m not going to complain about getting a full-size beauty product. For what it’s worth, squalane used to come from shark liver but it’s also found in plants and not often extracted from shark any longer. (This one is from jojoba and olive so it’s vegan.) It is encouraged to try this on different parts of the body on the product page (linked to above) and I definitely have dry skin this time of year. It made a decent cuticle oil and I also think it moisturized my hands where it got on them. You don’t need much to cover your whole face, either, as it spreads around quite easily, so this bottle will last a long time.
Vitabath Fragrance Mist in Grapefruit Vanilla (9.5 mL) – Estimated Value $0.40 (Buy 8 fl oz for $9.95)
I will sometimes buy Vitabath shower gel (it’s not very expensive, but it seems to be good quality and it doesn’t irritate my skin), but this product is new to me. I am not much of a fragrance mist user, in general, but this was pleasant enough after a shower. My own personal preference is for this grapefruit vanilla scent over the lavender chamomile one I received in the regular Bulu Box, but I’m glad to have been able to try two different ones.

Verdict: There were seven items in this month’s Bulu Box Weight Loss. How much value to assign to each depends on how much you paid for the box. If you paid full price, they average out to $1.43 apiece. I got in on a $5 for life deal, so the average cost per item is $0.71 for me. I liked the scrub quite a lot, and the moisturizer was a highlight as well, and I’ll save the rest of the Zicam products for if/when I get colds, so there were definitely some products that worked for me this month.
I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB599 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both, since there is a lot of product repetition between the two.
