One of the five book selections subscribers can pick from for January is:

Book Summary:

For readers of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade’s most anticipated debuts, to be published in thirty-six languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: a twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.

It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .

Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.

Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.

What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.

Twisty and powerful, ingenious and moving, The Woman in the Window is a smart, sophisticated novel of psychological suspense that recalls the best of Hitchcock.

The January selections are in the botm website. I’m skipping this month but look forward to what they pick for February.

I’m confused on what this sub actually costs. So its $14.99 a month but how much is it if you do 3 months? MSA implies it is cheaper for 3 or more month subs but it looks like its still $45 for 3 months. Is it worth it? Often i can buy books on amazon for cheaper than $15.

I bought a 6 month sub which was $70, and came with a free month so it came out to $10/month. Plus you can add up to 2 additional books for $10 each, and they have at least one pre-release a month so for me it’s been worth it!

Why not just watch Rear Window by Hitchcock? Originality seems be lacking that this story plot gets reused so much.

Yeah buddy! Will be adding this to my box!!! Great reviews and just because it says like Girl on the Train they are I believe hyping up the book. I always check what Goodreads says for their books each month but I’ve had this book on my list for awhile.

I liked Girl on a Train, and I liked Gone Girl. I think I’m gonna like a book that seems to be a mix of both.

I thought the same thing… sounds too similar to Girl on the Train to pique my interest. This was not a good spoiler to release IMO but I’m looking forward to seeing what else they have for January.

I did this in the beginning of December. I think it should be noted that you are put into a commitment for the next month of this sub. I tried to cancel after my first book, they refused stating because i did a free month, i had to pay for the next month on order to cancel. Dissaponing consodering i dead nothing about that anywhere.

I obviously don’t know if this was the case when you joined, but I was actually just looking at this free book offer and at least at this point the terms of use agreement does state that if you receive your first month for free, you can’t cancel until you’ve paid for at least one month.

How did they not notice when writing the synopsis that it sounds basically identical to The Girl on th Train?

Totally agree. I feel like this genre is getting crowded. After “Gone Girl” etc, it’s hard to be surprised. I think I need a new boost.
One of my favorite picks on BOTM was “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”. I was expecting something “Hollywood-y” and light but oh boy! What a pleasant surprise.

Cindy

Looking forward to Seven Husbands! Added it as an extra book for Jan!

Megan

I thought the exact same thing! Hopefully it was just a bad synopsis on BOTM’s part, because it seems I have already read that book and seen that movie…. not much anticipation here….

I’ve read the book, and while it does have similarities (drunk protagonist, viewing a crime through a window), it is a very different story. It’s not Gone Girl, but it’s an engaging story with a pretty surprising twist. Give it a shot. I liked it.

Helen

It is the same synopsis that is on Amazon.
