Benevolent Beauty Box December 2017 Review

Ardency Inn Modster Long Play Supercharged Lip Color “Black is Red” – Retail Value $25

This lipstick is very creamy, pigmented, and long lasting – it will leave a stain on your lips even after a meal! I also love the tube’s magnetic closure. If you love bold colors, you will definitely love this lipstick, however, this deep red color is way too dark for me to use daily. I use my finger to dab it on my lips and use as a lip stain instead.

Laritzy 12.1 Eyeshadow Palette (EU approved version) – Retail Value $36 (found here for $30)

Since this is a high-value item in the box, I had high hopes for its performance, but unfortunately, this product did not live up to my expectations. First off, the eyeshadow pans aren’t attached properly to the palette. Some of them are tilted and moved around when I tried to swatch with my fingers (as shown in the close-up photo). The quality of eyeshadows wasn’t very consistent. Their shimmers are gorgeous (very buttery and pigmented!), while the mattes are dry, powdery, and harder to blend. All of the colors lasted about 6 hours on my eyes with eyeshadow primer.

Laritzy Eye Pencil “Gold” – Estimated Value $18

I couldn’t find the exact product on their website so I estimated using their lip pencil price instead.

Sadly, this is another miss for me. The shade of this eye pencil is very pretty but way too light to show up on my skin. The texture was also kind of hard and did not apply as smoothly as other eyeliner pencils I own.

Here is the swatch of the eye pencil, below Ardency lipstick and above Laritzy 12-1 palette.

Starlooks Perfecting Eye/Face Primer tube

Starlooks Perfecting Eye/Face Primer – Listed Value $5.50

Although the information card states that it can be used to prep both eyes and face for makeup application, the size of the tube is very small so I think I’m going to use it mainly as an eye primer. This silicone primer did a good job of keeping my eye makeup in place for more than 6 hours despite my oily eyelids. I will definitely use up the whole thing.

Volante Radiant Youth Essential Firming Oil packaging closed

Volante Radiant Youth Essential Firming Oil next to packaging

Volante Radiant Youth Essential Firming Oil – 10 ml. Retail Value $35 (found here for $26.25)

This luxe oil is lightweight, absorbs easily, and has a light sweet scent. I have been mixing this oil with my face serum every morning since the weather got colder and drier. I felt like this oil helped balance my skin, keeping it plumped and moisturized but not oily. I really enjoy it.

And this is the look I completed with everything I received from Benevolent Beauty box this month. Since I was heading out for a wedding, I didn’t want my lips to be too bold, so I only dapped a little bit of the lipstick onto my lips and applied a lip gloss on top.

The Verdict: The value of this box added up to $119.50, which is more than 3 times the cost of the box. Despite the fact that the value is high, I think this month’s Benevolent Beauty Box has more misses than hits for me. My favorite product was definitely the facial oil. Overall, I think that this box did a great job of curating cruelty-free products, and the majority of the items are vegan as well.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, order by the 22nd of each month to get that month’s box.

  1. BBB is my favorite beauty box. My LaRitzy palette didn’t have any loose pans, I’m sorry yours was a lemon. Honestly, I have more than enough eye shadows and liners and find myself gifting those I receive to women’s shelters. I was a bit hesitant about the lip color, but have grown to love the bold color for winter. I agree, the face oil is divine. I’m anxiously looking forward to a January spoiler and a box heavier on skincare!

  2. I had to skip this month ’cause I was not in town, but thinking of re-upping in February. 🙂

  3. Honestly, that’s about the quality I would expect from a brand called “LaRitzy”.

    • I’ve had LaRitzy products through BBB and Ipsy as well as others. It’s not so bad, depending on what the item is, of course. I received a great lipstick and lip liner from LaRitzy in BBB a few months ago. I also received a terrible LaRitzy item from Ipsy.

  4. That’s too bad about the loose pans in the eyeshadow palette. Mine only had one loose pan, but fortunately the person I gifted it too didn’t mind.

  5. You look gorgeous but I think that’s more to do with your skill in applying makeup (and fantastic bone structure and great skin) than the quality of the makeup itself! Great review, though I would love to see the lip color full strength, I think you can pull it off.

    • thank you for your kind compliment ^_^

  6. This was my first Benevolent Beauty box. Really liked their mystery box and signed up for this during the back Friday promo.
I was hoping for the gold eyeliner but sadly got another black one. I have enough back eyeliner to last me a lifetime. 🙁
I completely agree with everything you have said. LOVE the Volante oil . Just what my skin needs in the winter! Also love Ardency inn lipstick: it’s a perfect smooth bold color. Definitely two awesome hits. Now eagerly waiting for some spoilers/next BB box!

    • I thought the eyeliner colors were gold and navy, not black. Have you tried it? I also thought it was black but was pleasantly surprised by it turning out to be a beautiful deep blue.

      • Sadly no navy either. It says BLACK on the pencil but I tried it to be sure as well. Thank you though! 🙂
You are definitely the lucky one. Hehe.

    • Glad you love the box! The oil is fantastic!

  7. Thank you for your very good and honest review. I know every month can’t be filled with all “hits”.

    • I definitely had more hits than misses with BBB! I think the box itself is great!
