Sweet Sparkle October 2017 - Theme

Each box comes with a card detailing the brands and items included. This month’s theme is Pretty in Punk.

Now, onto the items!

LA Splash Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick Macaroon - Retail Value $14

Well, this isn’t really a dark red like the box theme description talked about. It’s more of a dark berry which is more wearable for me. When I press my lips together, there is a bit of tackiness that never really goes away but using a primer underneath helps a bit. The formula and applicator make application easy and precise. I don’t like how it accentuates the lines on my lips but I can see this potentially being a better product for people with less dry skin issues. It does not move or transfer once I put it on and I need a waterproof makeup remover to scrub it off.

Sweet Sparkle October 2017 - Eye Primer

e.l.f. Cosmetics Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer Sheer - Retail Value $2

The line is hit or miss with certain products, but this is one of the ones I like. I love to use eyeshadow primer on its own to brighten my eyelids and this sheer color does just that. It also gives a smooth finish to apply shadow to and extends that time my shadow looks good. The formula is also super easy to blend onto your lid and feels silky. For $2, I’m impressed.

Hikari Mechanical Eyeliner Raven - Retail Value $13

This mechanical liner has a nice, sharp point on it perfect for drawing crisp lines. It also is smudgeable if you like a softer look. The formula is like a traditional pencil and it takes a couple of strokes to get an opaque line. The color is matte black and great as a basic liner.

Bronx Colors Vintage Glamour Pocket Set - Retail Value $11.99

This set is so cute! I like its small size and that it has blush and eyeshadows. The blush is a dusty rose color that is super wearable. The eyeshadows are a satin pale pink and a shimmery black and are buttery-smooth. I like the versatility of this and have used it for both neutral and smoky looks.

Sweet Sparkle October 2017 - Mascara Closed

J.Cat Beauty Love Live Lash Mascara Lengthening - Retail Value $5.99

While not my favorite mascara, this does an ok job at achieving the effect I want for my lashes. The price point isn’t bad either. The hourglass-shaped brush helps to reach all of those tiny lashes to get a nice full effect. The actual mascara is smooth in texture and dark black in color. It’s not the most lengthening of mascaras but I like that my lashes feel soft and feathery and it is easy to wipe off with a swipe of eye makeup remover.

Sweet Sparkle October 2017 - Swatches

All of the items swatched from top to bottom: primer, eyeliner, lip color, and palette: blush, eyeshadows.

Sweet Sparkle October 2017 - Face

Sweet Sparkle October 2017 - Face Detail

Here is a look with all of the items from this month’s box. While I didn’t create quite as dramatic of a look as the included card showed, I’m happy with this as a smoky look for me. I’m happy with the gradient I was able to achieve with the eyeshadows and that the liner allowed me the draw a fine line above my lashes.

Verdict: Sweet Sparkle’s “Pretty in Punk” box has a value of $46.98 plus free shipping. That is significantly lower than last month, which is disappointing. All of the items, as always, are full-sized and coordinated to create an entire look. I’ll use everything except for the lip color and I’ll get the most use out of the palette and the primer. I hope next month ups the value and sticks to the theme a bit more.

I love it too and like u don’t see any line problem. The shadow/blush things are pretty solid. I’ve wanted to try Bronx Colors since I saw them on the Ulta site, but no one thing ever stood out enough to make me buy. Surprisingly, I also like the Elf Shadow base. I usually hate Elf, but this one is ok. The mascara is fine too, but given all the mascaras we get in subs, this one isn’t exceptional enough for me to use too often. Thanks for sharing. please keep such a posting as well.

I love this sub, even though the $ value may not be there. I enjoy the full look and the chance to discover affordable products.

As for this one, the star by far is the liquid lipstick. I got the same shade, but mine reads more dark pink than berry like yours does. It does dry on me and lasts all day, but I don’t really see the fine line issue that I have seen with some liquid lipsticks.

The Hikari eyeliner, like almost everything I’ve tried from this brand, is garbage. I had to press painfully hard, and even then I didn’t get a solid black line. This is why I don’t love twistups…they dry out. I would much rather have a sharpenable pencil. I threw this one right in the trash.

I don’t get the price point for this at all. Anything with Elf is an instant no for me as my Dollar Tree has it all. This does not even compare to Boxycharm for the money.

No way would I pay 25$ for this

Hikari, JCat, and ELF? I can’t see how they have subscribers at all when Boxycharm is cheaper with much better, higher quality brands.

I was thinking the same thing. I can get tarte and high end brands in boxy for less. No thanks!

Tiffany, you look beautiful. I just don’t get the Punk theme.

I actually think the lip color is super complimentary and looks amazing – I don’t see any challenges with over emphasis on lip lines at all!
