Candy Club October 2017 Review & Unboxing - Box Exterior

Candy Club
3.5 overall rating
46 Ratings | 17 Reviews

Candy Club is a candy subscription that sends 2-3 pounds of premier brand name candy to you each month. Each delivery contains 4 different types of candy which you can choose yourself or leave as a surprise.

You’ll receive four different types of candy each month. Three will arrive in cups and the fourth will be loose candy in the box.

They no longer offer the option of selecting sweets, sours, or sweets + sours – instead, you’ll take a short quiz to decide what types of candies you’d like to receive each month.

Loose candies in front of a tower of sour candy in a plastic container

3 of your 4 candies arrived packaged in Candy Club branded containers and sealed with some tamper-resistant plastic as well. The 4th candy is loosely packaged inside the box, but it's always something individually wrapped. 🙂

Info cards from Candy Club

Each delivery you receive from Candy Club will also include a little vellum envelope with the nutrition facts of the 4 candies included. They're small but well-made and well-designed, and include the brand name and brief descriptions, too.

Sweet's Vanilla Salt Water Taffy - Retail Price: 3 pounds for $10.45

I have a soft spot for saltwater taffy because it reminds me of taking vacations to the beach as a kid. These were really good, with the sweet vanilla taste you would expect. I know taffy can sometimes be hard to chew and I hate candy that gets stuck in your teeth, but these seemed really fresh. According to the info card, they are whipped instead of pilled, which makes them softer and less sticky.

Vidal Sour Strawberries - Retail Price: 1 lb for $3.95

I've had these before and remember really liking them, but I was less blown away this time around. They are sour gummy candies but not overly mouth-puckering. I pretty much got all "sour sugar" and not a clear "strawberry" taste from these. The gummy was chewy and soft though, so they seem nice and fresh.

Vidal Pineapple Rings - Retail Price: 1 lb for $3.95

These gummies by the same brand, though... wow! These were so good. I love dried pineapple, and these rivaled the real stuff in terms of flavor and deliciousness. I originally thought they were sour candies too, but they're just coated in sugar. They'd be a great garnish for a tropical cocktail!

Dorval Sour Power Berry Blue Raspberry Belts - Retail Price, 1 lb for $5.35

These sour belts were SOOO SOUR! I seriously drank half a glass of water immediately after tasting one of these. They have that classic blue raspberry flavor, which was always my favorite as a kid. Again, these were super fresh and chewy– exactly what I've come to expect from Candy Club.

Verdict: We randomly let Candy Club select our candies this month. While I would have liked a little more balance in my sweet vs sour candies, everything was fresh and good quality– as well as being totally fun to try. As usual, we received about three pounds of candy which makes the cost about $10/pound (not including shipping). I think this box is a fun gift idea for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Value is always a big question with Candy Club, especially since they recently increased their prices to $29.99 + $8.99 shipping ($38.98 total). This time around, I was able to find all of the same products on Candy Nation so I decided to do a more direct comparison. I could order all of these same products (with 3x as much salt water taffy) for $39.05, which is just slightly more.

I grabbed a screenshot of my shopping cart so you can see the comparison from Candy Nation and their (pretty expensive) shipping fee:

For me, ultimately this means that if you're interested Candy Club, the best deal you'll get is by signing up for 6 months ($24.99/month) or 12 months ($21.99/month) to get the most value from the subscription.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You won't get this exact box since you can either choose your candy or have it chosen at random for you!

Value Breakdown: At $38.98 for this box on the month-to-month plan, you’re paying about $12.99 per pound of candy.

I used to subscribe to candy club. Not only is it overpriced, but I found most of the candy to be terrible. Probably one of the most disappointing subs I’ve had.

My son would love this but I can’t justify the cost especially for candy. Looks really fun and good though.

I agree! And I always wonder, who can eat that much candy in a month, even if you share? It sounds like an awful lot.

I love reading reviews for candy club – I love candy! But this is too pricey for what you get. I can easily get candies very similar to these for a fraction of the cost. I do like the personalization of this subscription though but still not enough to justify the cost.
