Bulu Box November 2017 Booklet Back

Bulu Box has changed their information cards again, as well as the boxes.

Bulu Box November 2017 Literature

There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box.

Bulu Box November 2017 Lips

There was also a card advertising an item that is supposed to give you fuller lips in seconds. This works by a suction mechanism. I am writing about this separately to advise you not to actually try this. Here is an article (that interviewed some doctors) talking about the dangers of doing this with a shot glass – you could have pain, swelling, and bruising, even scarring and disfigurement with repeated use. (Some of the stuff in the article won’t apply since this device is flexible and a shot glass isn’t.)

Bulu Box November 2017 SOS

SOS Hydration Drink Mix (coconut, 1 serving) – Buy 20 Packs for $17.50

This product is vegan and has less sugar but more electrolytes than coconut water. The manufacturer claims it is as effective as an IV drip for mild to moderate dehydration. For the record, it is much more pleasant than an IV drip (I just spent a few days in the hospital after surgery so I would know). But, most people are not walking around in a constant state of dehydration (you don’t actually need to drink 8 glasses of water a day, either). Anyway, if you are going to be doing a lot of sweating at work or during outside activities, this may be a good solution. I think it tastes a little better than coconut water, too. (It says to mix with 8 fl oz of water but you can just dump it in a larger water bottle if you want.)

Bulu Box November 2017 Oatmeal

Bakery on Main Maple Multigrain Muffin Oatmeal (1.75 oz) – Buy 6 Packets for $5.99

I’ve received this before in several food subscription boxes. I like it. I eat oatmeal on weekends so I have some food to go with my medication (makes me woozy otherwise) and I am much more appreciative of maple flavoring now than I was 10 years ago. This has a combination of gluten-free oats and ancient grains in addition to some seeds with healthful fats.

Bulu Box November 2017 Glamour

Glamour Nutrition Hair, Skin, and Nails (2 count) – Buy 60 Capsules for $34.99

I could really use something like this as my hair thinned from losing weight last year and I’m afraid it will thin some more as I recover from surgery. Alas, this has gelatin in the capsules and contains collagen, so I can’t try it. (Gelatin is denatured collagen and both are only possible to source from animals, usually connective tissue like cartilage but sometimes skin.) Anyway, if you are not vegetarian, and are interested in improving your hair and nails, this has both biotin and collagen, which I have seen in a lot of similar treatments. I believe there is some decent evidence in terms of consuming collagen for hair and nail growth, too.

Bulu Box November 2017 Body Wash

Natralia Happy Little Bodies Eczema Body Wash and Shampoo (6 fl oz) – Retail Value $12.99

It’s nice to get a full-size item in Bulu Box, though this is of limited use since I don’t have any children and I don’t have eczema. (This is the third month in a row we have received a product from this company.) This is pretty gentle; I used it in the area of my surgical incision (the skin has been closed up for a week or two now; don’t use it on an open wound!) and it was non-irritating. This is a good reminder that sometimes you will get items that really don’t fit your profile at all with this subscription (I received male enhancement pills once). Some of this had leaked out into the box, so it was kind of messy to open, and that’s why you see a piece of tissue paper stuck to the bottle, too.

Bulu Box November 2017 Tea

Davidson’s Herbal Christmas Tea (3 bags) – Buy 8 Bags for $2.95

This smells wonderful and it tastes great, too. It has cinnamon, peppermint, orange peel, cloves, nutmeg, and some natural flavors, so it is perfect for this time of year. I’m a fan of Davidson’s teas as they are high quality and inexpensive. I buy their Dragonwell and Irish Breakfast loose teas by the pound from Amazon.

Verdict: There were five items in this month’s Bulu Box. How much value to assign to each depends on how much you paid for the box. If you paid full price, they average out to $2 apiece. I got in on a $5 for life deal, so the average cost per item is $1 for me. Some of the items (vitamins, body wash) are less useful to me, personally, but I’ve never had this flavor of the SOS drink before and I do love the tea and oatmeal. This isn’t my best month with Bulu Box, but it was OK.

I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB599 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two. Please also note that instead of getting points you can redeem for merchandise if you review your samples, now you get sweepstakes entries, which isn’t as good of a deal (unless you are the winner…).

After seeing this I’m very glad I cancelled last month- Now that their rewards program has changed I really don’t see this box lasting much longer because the value has seriously decreased. (even when using the coupon). Too many random items, they aren’t paying attention to any feedback given.

Thank you Ragan. Great review!
Hope you are healing well.

And appreciate letting people know about the lip thing. One of those crazy fads that needs to end soon!
I too am vegetarian and appreciate all of your helpful information in reviews.
I also had surgery recently and tried the wash on closed incisions. Seems to be ok, I do have a newborn nephew and infant niece to give this to.
The last few boxes have included stuff I cannot or will not use, but also some full size stuff. I have the lifetime discount also, so will continue the box for now. At least I can share stuff. Do hope to see Adult items though in future boxes.
I am not found of the new website, and other changes. But will adapt soon enough..lol.

This month was definitely a bummer…. Don’t know how long I’ll stick around, even with the 5.99 deal! I wanted to swing by though, and mention how much I love your reviews and your scientific attitude towards some of the stuff sent out in this box – I, too, was concerned about the “fullips”.
