Stila Cosmetics HUGE™ Extreme Lash Mascara - .2 fl oz, Estimated Value $10.45 (buy a .44 oz. tube for $23)

This is Stila’s newest mascara, and I’ve been looking forward to trying it! Funny thing – this was one of the sample choices for November, but I missed my email and by the time I chose my sample, this mascara option was sold out. Somehow I received it anyway! Which, cool, but how? Anyways! This formula went on pretty nicely. The brush is alright, but I got the feeling the formula would clump after a couple coats. Initially, it didn’t wow me but was a mascara I knew I’d use – until a couple hours later I saw it had smudged pretty badly under my eyes. That’s a big thing for me because I don’t normally have that problem. I know some people may have oily complexions or long lower lashes and tend to get that a lot but I rarely do. So the fact that this mascara did for me means I really won’t use this. Sad!

Birchbox November 2017

Here’s me wearing the mascara. If you got this sample, did you have the same problem with it smudging?

Marcelle Hydra-C Eye Contour Gel Cream - .1 fl oz, Estimated Value $5.40 (buy .5 fl oz. tube for $27)

I love eye creams. I never go without them! This one from Marcelle is nice – it felt cooling went I applied it and I noticed a little brightening as well!

Birchbox November 2017

Briogeo Roscarco Blow Dry Perfection & Heat Protectant Cream - .75 fl oz, Estimated Value $4.50 (buy a 4 oz. tube for $24)

This hair cream was my sample pick this month. It does everything I look for in a blow dry cream! It left my hair feeling smooth and hydrated without weighing it down or making it look greasy. Plus it smells great.

Birchbox November 2017

Kopari Coconut Sheer Oil - .5 fl oz, Estimated Value $12.94 (buy a 1.7 oz. bottle for $44)

This product and brand are new to me! It’s a great discovery. The packaging is lovely and is actually a glass bottle (feels luxurious!) with a dropper (convenient!). It’s very hydrating and soothing. The only thing I have to say is that aside from some extra ingredients to keep it liquid at room temp, this honestly just feels like just coconut oil. Really conveniently repackaged coconut oil, but I’m personally just not convinced that it’s worth the price over just using regular coconut oil.

Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume – sample

This perfume, which seems to be commonly sent out in Birchboxes, is described as “elegant, pure, and spicy,” with its main note being Cetalox (a synthetic substitute for grey amber, apparently). It smells a little unisex and is definitely a little spicy – neither of which is my personal taste.

The Verdict: My November Birchbox was pretty good for me! As usual, I got introduced to some new products and brands that I enjoyed trying out. The value adds up to over $33.29, which I’m happy with for a $10 discovery box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, as of today your first box will be the November box. (Tip: Check the image on the sign-up page. The box design pictured is the first month you’ll receive.) You can’t pick the curated box as your first box, but you’ll be able to pick it every month moving forward.

Coupon - Today only get an extra 10% off a subtotal of $30+, extra 15% off a subtotal of $50+, extra 25% off a subtotal of $75+ within the Super Sale category.

Birchbox is also having an Aces Only Exclusive Sale! Everything on this page is an additional 45% off for ACES when you spend $30+!

Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Stila Cosmetics HUGE™ Extreme Lash Mascara: $3.14
  • Marcelle Hydra-C Eye Contour Gel Cream: $1.62
  • Briogeo Roscarco Blow Dry Perfection & Heat Protectant Cream: $1.35

I would like to see Marc Jacobs eyeliner in a box!

I received my box a little before Thanksgiving. The only item I was excited about was a Stila liquid liner. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet… but I love Stila so I have high hopes. I also received Amika touchable hairspray – I like it. It holds without being sticky or stiff at all. I also received a Lord & Berry brow pencil, a Vasanti moisturizer, and that Marcelle eye gel. I am not keeping the last three but I’m happy with my $10 box.

How did you get to choose this box – I noticed it was the Discovery Box & I don’t get that option – it’s either the Curated Box or Pick an Item Box. Thanks!

Haley refers to these type of boxes as “discovery” boxes because she’s discovering new brands. This is the sample choice box, as indicated at the beginning of the review 🙂

I originally picked the curated box, then changed my mind and deleted that choice from my profile. So what did they send me?

The curated box.

But to be fair, I really did like the smashbox liquid lipstick a lot more than I expected– I’d gotten a couple of the Stila ones that didn’t look good on my, but the smashbox color worked well for me.

Great box! I would have loved the Eye Contour Gel Cream and Kopari. This was my first month with birchbox and I have yet to receive it lol. It mysteriously never got to USPS so they’re sending me another. And another stila shadow/eyeliner (newbie present) cus I guess that never shipped out either. I wasn’t even aware of when they normally shipped out their boxes so I didn’t email them until yesterday. Needless to say, I’m cancelling!

Ok rant over 🙂

Same thing happened to me, my box still hasn’t arrived and apparently it shipped on the 15th. This is my first month back, I was a previous subscriber and I left.. Now I’m regretting returning. I emailed them but still haven’t received a response. What has happened to them?? They used to be a great company.

I as well ended up getting the mascara. Did not request anything this month. I am not happy with it at all. I‎t clumps a lot even if you scrap off the brush.

The Juliette people are absolutely correct – this is not a perfume. It’s a stinky man-made chemical.

And it’s really expensive for something that uses synthetics as its main scent.

The use of synthetic scents is normally to protect an endangered species, or avoid using an especially sensitizing ingredient. If you enjoy the scent, the synthetic can be a godsend, since synthetics are less likely to cause reactions than raw ingredients. Those with eczema and asthma can’t use raw ingredients. It’s also an industry standard, since synthetics are more consistent.

My sample selection was the Stila mascara, and I was not impressed. I hated the brush, and the mascara clumped badly and there was a lot of flaking.

However, I did like most of the other samples that came with it, particularly the Dr. Jart bb cream, and the label.m Diamond Dust hair creme. My perfume sample was Tocca, which is a nice scent, but a bit sharper than what I like(my fave perfume is Tom Ford’s Black Orchid).

This month, I think I’m going to get the curated box, if it still available when I choose tomorrow (I’m new to Birchbox, so not an Ace).

I found that mascara to be very clumpy going on, and for some reason I have 2 samples of it.
