Rad and Hungry x Poland STMT Kit Stationery Review – September 2017

Rad and Hungry was sparked by founder Hen Chung's addiction to travel and office supplies. This subscription box combines the two—each kit in The Something Mighty (STMT) Collection is filled with office supplies locally sourced from around the world. Custom designs and sweet wrap jobs transform each monthly subscription box into a full-on, hands-on experience with a different destination at its focus. Each new STMT Kit is released during the first part of the month, 10 months of the year. (They work on other goodies in June and December.)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Rad and Hungry STMT Kit

The Cost: $26.00 per month (+ $7.00 US shipping) for a single box. Save $2.00 per month for the quarterly (3 kit) subscription. Save $3 with a semester (6 kit) subscription, or save $5 with a yearly (10 kit) subscription. You will be charged one time for the whole subscription rather than monthly.

The Products: Each limited-edition STMT Kit includes lo-fi office supplies locally sourced from around the world, a hand-screened poster designed at RAH headquarters, a printed edition of "The Low Down" (the adventure from that month’s sourcing country), a RAH Passport to track your world tour (included in the first kit of Quarterly, Semester and Yearly Subscriptions), and a stamp to collect in the RAH Passport. Yearly Subscribers receive special bonus items throughout the year, too.

Ships to: Worldwide. Shipping costs vary. Ships to the US for $7.00.

Goodness, gracious! This is my first Rad and Hungry STMT Kit, and I am just tickled pink. Before jumping in, I want to point out that this box will be a bit more item-heavy than the future ones because it includes some introductory goodies!

First, there's a concise packing list that tells you what is included in your kit. I also noticed a color preference, which I don't recall making when I ordered. I investigated by returning to the site and had to create an account, which seems to be a new thing for them. I am going to guess that this is a new feature that hasn't been launched yet, so I will check in since I don't see anywhere to make such preferences.

Next, there is a beautiful screen-printed introduction. I wish the camera would have captured the bright neon-pink/orange ink, but alas, it looks washed out in the photo. I really love their "crude" style of traveling to "eat sh*t, buy sh*t, talk sh*t". These are my people!

The back has a handwritten note from Hen, the founder of RAH!

This screened card contains different cool paper clips!

When I flipped it over, it looks like these are each from a different country. I love it!

I also received my RAH RAH Club card since this is my first delivery. I am a proud member! I love that it was signed with a pen from S. Korea.

Ok, so here is where we get into another layer of this package. Unwrapping this is truly part of the fun and such a great experience! It's wrapped in kraft paper and sealed with a gold RAH sticker.

Boom! More goodies. I'll explore more closely as you read on.

Pencils Are The Sh*t Print

Hahaha! I totally laughed out loud when I saw this, and it immediately brought a smile to my face. This is going up across from my desk on the 'ol cork board because I agree. Pencils ARE the sh*t.

Rad and Hungry World Tour Passport

In your first package, you will get a RAH passport to store all of the passport stamps you'll be acquiring. It's hand-screened, of course!

It's made from an envelope, which is such a great idea because it leaves a pocket in the back to store stamps you haven't had a chance to paste in yet. Or other doo-dads.

Here it is opened up flat so you can see the design. So good!!

Rad and Hungry Pencil

I'm guessing this is also an introductory pencil so you can jot down notes in your passport... or anywhere.

Now let's move on to the featured destination's items. Poland, here we come!

This is a monthly zine of sorts called "The Low Down" in which Hen talks about her sourcing trip to find the items contained in your package. I couldn't help but tear up when she talked about taking her immigrant parents who sacrificed so much for her on the sourcing trip with her. And about what a great time they had.

STMT x Poland Passport Stamp

Each destination includes a passport stamp so you can keep track of where you've traveled with RAH! So pretty!!

STMT x Poland Print

Then there is the monthly destination print, which is also screened with that awesome neon ink. The design is really cool. I'm stoked to hang this one up! You'll notice it is also the design on the outside of the box.

Kukulka Candy

Doing a quick search online, it looks like this is a classic Polish candy made of chocolate and liquor. Such a fun little surprise! Mmm, it's kind of like a Tootsie Roll filled with liqueur.

Okay, next layer! Here we dive in to see the actual items from Poland!

I'm already accustomed to some stellar wrapping from Rad and Hungry. Here, the items are wrapped in kraft paper, sealed with another gold sticker, and wrapped in string. Details!

Voila! Look at these beauties.

Papierniczeni Notebook

The first item is a 8" x 5.5" sewn-bound light gray notebook with a constellation-like design by Polish company, Papierniczeni. Looking at their online shop, they have a lot of gorgeous items to offer!

The inside pages are blank, so you can use it to write, draw, or whatever you'd like.

The sewn binding really brings a handmade element to this notebook.

The back has the same design continued on the back that reminds me of a negative of the night sky.

The blank square on the front allows space to title the book if you so desire, or maybe even to decorate it with a sticker?

Papierniczeni Projekt Notes No. 1 Notebook - Value $5.50 USD (at current exchange rate)

The next item is a notebook by the same brand that measures about 6.5" x 3.75" and has metallic copper lettering on the front.

The dark gray cover has been hand-sprayed with paint to create a unique design on each.

This one is also bound with copper-colored thread that is left unfinished.

The pages are made of recycled blank paper that have a natural feel.

The back has matching copper type and hand-spray-painted design.

Toma Superfine 059 Pen in Black

You all know what a pen addict I am, so I love receiving one all the way from Poland! I'm not sure why Toma seems vaguely familiar to me, but it does.

The body of the pen has a uniform star pattern diagonally across it.

The pen itself is a basic ballpoint, but is, as its name states, superfine. I prefer a really exact point, so this one does the trick.

I like its ribbed body closer to the tip of the pen, which sticks out just a little when the cap is on.

Verdict: Wow, you guys. My first Rad and Hungry STMT Kit was truly one of the best unboxing experiences ever! I am the exact target audience for this subscription because I love traveling, stationery, and that whole DIY vibe! Hen seems like someone I'd love to hang out with and am now hoping I one day get to meet her! This one is a toughy to determine a true value for because I really do think a lot of it is about the experience. For $31, I got two beautiful notebooks and a pen from Poland, but I also received an original hand-screened print, a passport, a cool hand-screened passport stamp, a RAH pencil, some candies, a heartfelt recount of a trip to Poland, and some cool paper clips from far reaches of the world. But overall, I received a really special experience that had a ton of heart and thought put into it, which is a lot of what I look for to set subscription boxes apart. The journey is the destination, no?

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It seems like as long as they are not sold out, you may get this as your first delivery.

Value Breakdown: At $31 for this box, I received three stationery items (two notebooks and one pen) imported from Poland, a limited hand-screened print, a hand-screened passport stamp, and a ton of other bonus and introductory goodies. If you want to break it down to the five items, they'd average out to be about $6.20 each.

What do you think of the Rad and Hungry STMT Kit this month?

I would love to see their wrapping method, it’s so unique!

If anyone knows what it’s called or knows where I could see a YouTube video demonstrating it, it would be appreciated!
