UPDATE ON THE OPEN WAIT LIST! I signed up for this on 10/3, before they opened their wait list and I was so excited to see that since I subscribed before the 15th I would get the October box, since I’ve yet to be billed and a few of you have contacted customer service & been assured that you will be getting the October box, I, on the other hand have been told that I will not be getting October, but I will have to wait until November. This is not a good first time experience for me with them considering others who signed up after me will be getting this month’s box. Kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I believe I am going to cancel my subscription before it bills to start with, there’s plenty of other boxes out there that I can invest in that won’t jerk me around like this. Sorry for the rant but I’m upset about this since I feel that those who have signed up first should’ve been taken care of first before new subscribers, that’s the right thing to do, apparently they don’t care about what’s right 😞😣😤

Julie

Sorry for your crappy experience. I don’t think cs has a clue when it comes to the dates and boxes when they open the list. I was told totally different things every time I called when I resubbed. I ended up getting a box in the month cs told me for sure I wasn’t getting it.
I would wait until the 16thish and see if your card gets charged, that’s how you will know.

Lori

Thanks for the info Julie but I honestly was too upset about the way I was treated & I just canceled last night. I may change my mind in the future but as of right now I am keeping clear of Sephora. In my opinion, and because I worked customer service for a very long time for many different companies, the customer service team is the first team that should be notified of updates such as these. Now, if the reps are not bothering to keep themselves up to date on their own companies policy updates then they should be at the very least reprimanded & not see speaking to their customers or potential customers as they are. Again, just my opinion…

Ks

It’s possible they ran out of variation that matches your profile but not the others. For example, they might no longer have foundation to match your skin color.

Reply ButtonReply

Jo

Yes, my first month I was super upset. I’m a very fair blonde and I received colors for a very dark skin tone and more thick and ethnic hair. Lolo! My info was all on my profile, they likely did run out, I would have been happier to just wait

Lori

I see what you mean but that could’ve been explained, and honestly how often do they really match up with you’re skin tone? None of these options were stated in the conversations & that is another reason why I’m upset. Just a blanket nope you’re not getting a box this month with no reason why isn’t good customer service to me. Especially when you’ve made it known that you’ve opened your waiting list for the month.

Julie

That’s weird, the few times I’ve experienced a problem (not even their fault, the post office wasn’t finding my house), Sephora was awesome. I was just asking for help, like what do I do now, and they offered to replace everything in the shipment. Without me even asking. I’ve heard similar stories from others. I think you got a bad egg, try calling back.

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

Thanks for your comment Julie but I did that, went through 2 different cs reps and they pretty much don’t care. I’m not a big enough spender since I’ve only just discovered subscription boxes and higher end /better quality skin care products and makeup items. I have a fixed income since I’m disabled so I can only spend a lil at a time. Their attitude from both reps left a bad taste in my mouth. I worked cs for 20 +years before becoming disabled so I know how to get things done and I wasn’t rude or anything, I was direct and I stated that I was disappointed that they were not going to be living up to their own website’s statements. I decided to cancel before they started billing me at all since they made no effort to make it right with me. I hope that others have a better experience with them, but I just prefer not to be bothered with a company that doesn’t care to try to make it right with me. Thanks for listening, I’m still upset about it I guess, it’s hard for me to decide to do something for myself since I’m on such a tight income, and to be treated like this is very disappointing to me.

Robin

I just wish my box would ship already!! 😥

Reply ButtonReply

Tamichiko

I just got an email from Sephora today saying that my box has already shipped.

Reply ButtonReply

kara

I know, mine always ship on the 11th… I was surprised when it didn’t. I just want to know which samples I received already, haha.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol

I am so excited!! I cannot wait to see what is in my box. I LOVE the UD optical illusion, mine is running low and wouldnt mind another one but am hoping for the Becca primer! Am also hoping for the Sunday Riley product. The last Sunday Riley I received was an absolute treasure! The smell was different, but I learned to love it! The only reasons I do not want the Dr. Brandt or the Coverfix is because (REALLY AWESOME) BoxyCharm has provided them (or will be providing Coverfix) in full size, but I can always shower my momma with them if I do get em!

Reply ButtonReply

michele

oh well. I think this is my last month with sephora play as they have been sending me items that I cannot use. What is the use of filling out a profile, when most of the items are totally not appropriate?

ipsy is much better now and I am loving nourish beauty box, so october will be my last month with sephora for the time being.

maybe in the future they will get better, but for now, I can use that 120.00 a year for something else.

Don't Wannabe Data

I am hoping they actually give me a medium shade of foundation. Last two times, I received foundation and concealer that made me look like Data from star trek. I know, dating myself, but still….waxy android is not a desirable look.

Reply ButtonReply

Meli

Bahahahaha!! I love Star Trek Next Gen!

I’ve never been a big foundation/face prep person but I love that I’m exploring new makeup with Sephora play. I think it’s great. I got box #925. I hope she releases the box numbers soon. I get so anxious waiting. Last month was my first Play box and I really enjoyed it. The creams were amazing. I’m definitely going to buy the Genius line from Algenist. It’s amazing. I even like the Sephora eyeliner. It’s definitely an eyeliner for a “smudgier” look. Ipsy sends me eyeliners but they’ve all sucked compared to the Sephora one. I never knew I liked sparkly eyeshadow either, so the touch in sol was really nice to try and the wanderberry lipsticm sample is so cute. Classic lipstick. Looking forward to this month and since I know very little about these products and foundation in general, the combination of them really doesn’t matter. Please release the box numbers soon! 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Joselyn

How do you know the box number you are getting ? Where can i see my box number?

Reply ButtonReply

Ana

Access your Sephora account, open your orders, select it and once you open the details you’ll see on the item description: ITEM 1977958 – the number of the box is the last 3 digits. I can only check from a computer, not the Sephora app. Hope this helps

Sephora Play Haiku for October 2017:

Sephora Play Box~

Why you disappoint me so?

Always, damn primer.

Cindi

Here’s another one. I call this “Ode To Sephora Brand Products in My Play Box”

Makeup Remover.

I got you, like, twenty times!

And yet, you still suck.

~Zen Master Cindi

Cindi

I am on FIRE. I know it’s poor netiquette to reply to your own posts. Sorry!

This one is entitled: “A Hymn Dedicated to the Redundency of Certain Perfumes.” It can be sung–joyfully– if you like.

Amazing Grace! How

(Not) Sweet the Scent, to smell you

Yet again, on me!

~St. Cindi

(OK, I’m really done now. I promise. No more bad haikus. Unless you want more)

Cindi

Please, for the love of god and all things holy or unholy, NO MORE PRIMER!!! I do not use it! I do not want it! I have tiny-ass pores! No pore- shrinking magic primers! I don’t even use foundation, so I don’t need any primer!

And the bag is UGLY! Sephora, why do you hate me so?! Please, I’d rather an earth-friendly brown paper biodegradable bag.

I know life is short. I know in the grand scheme of things, a ten dollar subscription box means…. not much. I have had a lot of real tragedy in my life, (family members dying young, and suddenly). I know what is important in life.

(However, I have few guilty pleasures in life. This is one of them. Listening to Eminem and rapping badly while I drive–although I am turning 54, OMG!!!–is another. Playing with my chickens is another. It would be great, if for once, during the Columbus Day festival in Seaside, I would win the Camaro. And that lately, my Play box would totally not suck).

OK, going back to my little hole now. Please don’t hate, it’s all in good fun, really.

And did I mention, no more primer? 😉

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I have a macaw. He loves Justin Timberlake the most. As much as his mom likes country, he’s not down with it. And… I’ll take your tiny pores if you no longer want them!!

Reply ButtonReply

Cindi

Hahahaha!!! You can have my tiny pores (and also my super dry, super sensitive skin, and all those annoying little wrinkles and fine lines that go along with it. Fehh!!! I want glowy, oily, juicy, non-wrinkly skin).

See? Grass. Always. Greener.

Laurie

These boxes are my guilty pleasure too! Live the playful banter. Keep it coming!

Reply ButtonReply

Cindi

Aw, thanks! I like to have fun. You can’t take this stuff too seriously, it’s just makeup really. I love my makeup, but it’s just makeup. In the big picture it’s just a grain of sand on a very large beach, ya know?

/Philosophizing done. Back to the funny stuff. 😉

Julie

What a coincidence, I too love my hip hop, my chickens, and my guilty pleasure Play box.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindi

No. Way.

Ether you are the mistress of sarcasm (and I totally bow down to you!) or you are my soul sister!!!! YEAH!!!!!!

Hip hop, chickens, and Sephora are life (and my doggies, can’t forget them). Sigh. 🙂

Cindi

NO. WAY. You’re kidding me, right??!!!!

Yaaaaassssss, my new sister!!!! Rock on!!!

Nicole

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your posts yes your hilarious ….

Reply ButtonReply

Cindi

Why thank you so much!! 🙂 It’s so fun to bitch about the bad stuff I get in my box, that it can be almost disappointing when you get a good one! (no, not really, but I try to remain positive).

Truth be told, even if initially I detest my box on first sight, after trying out a few items I surprisingly find one that I wind up really liking, or at least glad I tried. And for that reason even though I complain a lot–and every month swear I’m gonna cancel–I wind up keeping my sub.

That, and the dreaded FOMO.

Eh, screw it, I work hard (we all do), it’s fun to have a little ten dollar surprise every month, ya know?

Now raise that glass along with me, and toast to NEVER EVER AGAIN getting another frigging primer! 🙂

Jill

I’d be happy with any combination of the products listed. They’re all things I know I’d use – though I was hoping for some darker eye and lip makeup for autumn. Last month I got what was dubbed as “the unicorn box” and I hated it!!!

Reply ButtonReply

C.J.

I can’t wait for spoilers for #677

Reply ButtonReply

Brittany

Same box! Can’t wait!

Reply ButtonReply

Jules

same! what would be your top picks for our box?

Reply ButtonReply

Alex

I know one thing for certain. I will get the worst possible combination of products! There’s comfort in that.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindi

hahaha. i think i love you.

that is some beautiful, succinct sarcasm, there. XO

Reply ButtonReply

Alex

Thank you! 🤗🤗🤗

Jamie

Same, girl. I’m not sure what I ever did to Sephora, besides spend $1,000+ a year!

Reply ButtonReply

Alex

Hahaha. I’m a rouge too 😂

Jen

I am canceling if I get that tired old Amazing Grace.

Reply ButtonReply

Laurie

It reminds me of the old lady powder my great grandmother used. I can’t believe how popular it is on QVC. I may be 57, but I’m not ready to smell like my grandmom yet.

Rayveniael

I just gave like 6 samples to my mom LOL UGHHHH

Heather

😂😂😂😂😂and also😭😭😭😭😭

Reply ButtonReply

Alex

I knowwwwww 😭😂😭😂

Racquel

I expect the same. From the foundations shown, I shouldn’t have bothered doing the foundation section smh

Reply ButtonReply

Laurie

A lot of these wind up in future Sephora Favorites boxes for a very good price.

Reply ButtonReply

Jaime

Fingers crossed for the stellar cosmic finishing powder. It has great reviews and I am in desperate need of the perfect finishing powder … after all that’s why I joined play – to discover 5 new products for ONLY $10 a month….

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

Is there a way to know what month box you’re getting before you commit? I really just want October! (Never had Play before!) Thanks 😃

Reply ButtonReply

Lori F.

According to Sephora’s website if you sign up by the 15th you will receive October’s box.

Reply ButtonReply

Arielle

You should sign up now if you want October and then cancel after you get the box or before Nov 2 (they usually charge your card between the 2nd to the 4th each month). You have to sign up before the 14th to get the current month’s box.

Reply ButtonReply

Tamichiko

I hope that the foundation isn’t too light or too dark for my skin tone. Even though I don’t mind foundation or concealer, the fear of it not being a close match is the reason why I don’t wear either; otherwise I would actually use it. I also don’t want the Cover FX, as I am not a fan of highlighting products. And as for the fragrances, I would be happy with any of the except for the Amazing Grace. I used to like the Amazing Grace scent, but now it just smells awful on me.

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

If you end up getting the Cover FX drops I’d be happy to buy it from you!

Reply ButtonReply

Leilani

I’m happy with everything except the perfume samples, which is a minor thing in my opinion. I’m hoping to get the Tory Burch one, even though I haven’t smelled it because it’s the only non-floral option and florals just smell horrible on me! And I actually like the wide variety of things they are putting in the boxes – it makes me feel like they might actually be trying to fulfill the expectations from profiles instead of doing a “one size fits all” approach.

Reply ButtonReply

Pamela

Am I the only one finding this month really boring – so many product I already have samples of and nothing new and exciting? Just me?

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

I’m with you. Eight years ago this box would have been amazing.

Reply ButtonReply

Elena

Me too. 😉

Reply ButtonReply

DianaG

I really want the Sunday Riley.

Reply ButtonReply

Holly

I am actually quite happy with these spoilers! Just about every product is a winner so I’m not as concerned with my box variation. Last month was frustrating when the eyeshadow and tansy mask were the coveted items and if you didn’t get them you would be disappointed. So I’m happy that all the items here are all pretty much equally good. I already have some of the MUFE foundation samples and the Laura Mercier powder, but I wouldn’t be that disappointed to get them again since they are useful. Hoping for the sunday riley and urban decay spray though even though I would be satisfied with any combination of these products.

Reply ButtonReply

michele

that eyeshadow was a hot mess of glitter.

Reply ButtonReply

cindi

I *wanted* that hot mess of glitter, lol. I craved it. I am one tacky, sparkly, old, beeyatch.

Whoever was lamenting not getting the Tansy mask, don’t–it smells like a combination of Ben Gay and old feet. Really, a serious noxious wintergreen bomb! And it gets this like fuzzy gross blue-green mold on the inside cap. Gross.

The grass is always greener. Seriously, if I get another Cover Fx in my box, I will gladly give it away to the first person who asks, and that will be my random act of kindness for the week. For Sephora LOVES to repeat stuff!

Julie

Looks good overall!! I’m personally hoping for the Sunday Riley and the Chanel. Hoping I don’t get the Skin Laundry. One of the powders would be nice.

Reply ButtonReply

Morgan

I hope I get the second darkest shade. If I get the darkest shade it will be a repeat of the August 2017 Hourglass/KVD incident for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Gaylan

Me too!

Reply ButtonReply

Molly

I was really disappointed by last month’s box, but I have high hopes for this month! I’d be happy with just about everything here!

Reply ButtonReply

LoriW.

I just signed up, again. I have no will power! But how is my first play September?

Reply ButtonReply

Kelly

Gah! Same just happened to me. =(
and one of the samples is brow tint in dark brown/black and I put that I’m a blonde. Bleh.
I’m hoping that’s a random placeholder for September, but hoping October will actually be the first month sent out!

Reply ButtonReply

LoriW.

I’m going to email them and find out. If I wanted September, I would have signed up in September. Keep your fingers crossed!

Laurie

Every product here is a winner! I own or have sampled quite a few of these and liked them all. Great month!

Reply ButtonReply

Bella01

I just get confused with all the different variations and box numbers. I think it’s to much for me to follow. I wish everyone had the same with maybe just a few variations if needed.

Reply ButtonReply

LB

The thought behind variations here is to match your profile. Not only foundation shades and lip colors to match skintone but i have oily skin and hair and appreciate not getting the same things as those with dry skin or full hair. I like trying things that may actually work for me. But there have been months when people or products seem misplaced so it’s not fool proof…

Reply ButtonReply

Chrissy

I asked them 2 month’s back because neither the Hourglass or Kat von D matched me and they said it’s all computer generated. So the computer decides what is the best match for you. take last month for example, I have brunette hair checked and i received the Benefit gimme brow in shade 5 which I would never choose myself because its way to dark! But it is the next shade down from black so that’s what I got! There system leaves a lot of room for people to not receive the correct shades of products. I would almost bet money that the foundation this month won’t be a match for my fair skin tone! Which kind of sucks!!

Bella01

I understand, its just to complicated for me. I see one box and I get excited and then find out its not my box. Then I see another box and I think, Wonderful. Still not my box lol. Then comes another review and still not my box. I give-up while admiring everyone else’s box.

Ann

They only look at one personalized item per month, otherwise they would have hundreds of bag variations vs just 8. If they used the 6 foundations above and matched to everyone, plus matched oily or dry skin in that same box, there would be 12 different variations. It would grow significantly with each profile match, and the bag variations would number in the hundreds or more! (I haven’t done the math.)

That’s why I don’t understand why some get so angry that some of the products don’t match their profile. They won’t. Period. This is a grab bag of products, where they try to match maybe one thing to each of us. The rest is luck, just like the other subs.

I think there are so many variations because they don’t have enough samples to put the same products in everyone’s bag. I could be wrong. But they are NOT matching more than one thing on our profile, in the same category every month.

Robin

I agree! Just send us all the same thing!
