There’s not a traditional information card with this subscription, but you get some pictures of dogs so that’s always fun.

Pet Treater October 2017

There was also a gift voucher for Naked Wines.

There was also a subscription referral card to pass along to a friend or family member with a dog, along with some treats.

“Home is Where Your Dog Is” Drawstring Bag – Value $1.38?

I guess this is the “For Your Human” item this month. It is always good to have a few of these around. They can be helpful for keeping your shoes from getting scuffed in a suitcase or for holding small amounts of dirty laundry during travel or in a gym bag. This is a nonwoven fabric (some sort of plastic, most likely) and I have used a value from a site that prints these with company logos on them.

Bungee Tug-A-Pup Toy for Dogs from Bow Wow Pet – Value $12.95?

Nyx thought this was pretty great, and I did get some good pictures of her playing with it, but she had one of the legs off in a few seconds. (Nyx has a lot of fun with stretchy toys, which this is.) I have used the value for a similar item since I couldn’t find this exact one for sale online.

Loving Pets Beef Bars (4 oz) – Value $3.97

These are 100% beef and made in the USA. If your dog has some food allergies and sensitivities but can eat beef, these are a good option. Nyx can’t have beef, but we’ve gotten a lot of similarly-processed cat treats from this brand and my cats seem to do well with them.

Wacky Wheel Squeaker from Bow Wow Pet – Value $2.50

I could only find this at closeout sites; the same toy appears to have been manufactured and plastered with a variety of different brand names on the label. Anyway, Nyx doesn’t much care if a toy is a closeout. She is really funny to watch with ring toys, too, because she always ends up stepping her foot through the middle and then wonders why she can’t pick it up (doesn’t make for good pictures, though). She enjoyed this one.

2 “Ghost Hunter K9 Unit” Bandanas – Value $6?

I think these must’ve been printed custom for this box because this is actually a pretty specific phrase that would ordinarily make a good search term. These are printed on one side only and are a bit softer (higher quality material?) than a lot of dog bandanas you receive in subscription boxes. I do wonder if the larger one is meant to be a wall hanging or something because there’s no way you could tie that around a dog’s neck and have the picture be visible. Anyway, these did fit Nyx but she wasn’t in a very good mood (maybe because she knew she was in trouble for eating half a plastic funnel…) so I don’t have any pictures to share this time.

Exclusively Dog Carob Flavor Sandwich Cremes (8 oz) – Value $7.99

These are vegetarian but they do contain wheat and soy. If your dog is sensitive to a particular animal protein, as long as it is not dairy, these should be all right. Carob is supposed to taste like chocolate (which dogs can’t have, of course). I’ve received this from Pet Treater several times in the past but they seem to be popular with the people I pass them along to. These are made in the USA, of course.

Shore Tails Fish Skins (2.4 oz) – Value $10?

I can’t find this brand online but it seems fish skin treats are usually on the expensive side, so I’ve estimated the value based on similar items. Before Nyx got her IBD diagnosis, she used to love things like this. I think they’re pretty disgusting but I am obviously not the intended consumer, either. (They are just dried, rolled pieces of fish skin.)

Emmy’s Gourmet Canine Creations Halloween Cookie – Value $1.35?

Halloween isn’t listed under “seasonal” on the Emmy’s site, so I’ve just used the value from individual Emmy’s treats available in their shop. Emmy’s seems to have a partnership with Pet Treater so you will get a lot of Emmy’s cookies with this subscription. (You may have noticed, the free treats that go with the referral card are also from Emmy’s.) This kind of makes me want to make pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies. Anyway, I like that Pet Treater is partnering with a smaller company to get some exclusive items for the box. These are made in Tennessee.

Pet Treater October 2017

Verdict: I calculated a value of $46.14 for the October Pet Treater dog subscription box. That is close to the average for this subscription. I also would say the box contents are representative of the types of items you should expect to receive, although perhaps there were more treats than usual this time. Nyx definitely enjoyed the toys, which is always the main draw for a dog subscription box for use due to her inflammatory bowel disease, and you will pretty much always get a few unique things here that you don’t see in other dog subscription boxes. I did have to estimate a lot of values, but even if I am off by $10 (and I don’t think I am), you are still getting a pretty good deal.

Somehow I ended up with this box in my mail, and I do not subscribe. I got the fish tails, bandana, cookie and a elephant toy. I am unsure how this happened.

It was clearly for a big dog, my Bamy weighs 8lbs. and that bandana would completely cover him. I emailed them but haven’t received an answer. I do sub to the 9.99 dog box that I think is affiliated with them.
