Letter explaining a delayed product- the True Moringa body butter

Before we get into the review, I'd like to mention that I received this letter in the box explaining that the body butter that was supposed to be included this month is delayed because of the tragic Hurricane Irma that hit Puerto Rico in early September (which is where their distribution is out of for this product). Almost two months later, the entire island is still without electricity. I can certainly live without body butter, but living without power after a tragic event is even worse. I urge anyone willing and able to help our friends in Puerto Rico any way they can until they get back on their feet.

Info card for the Pearlesque Box October 2017 Box featuring Pure Moringa

The info card explains the story of how the founders discovered the benefits of the moringa tree and are working with farmers in Ghana to plant more to combat malnutrition while purchasing the otherwise unused seeds for their skin products at a fair price. The moringa tree is known as the "miracle tree" locally due to the leaves containing more iron than spinach, more calcium than milk, and more protein than yogurt, gram for gram.

The other side goes over the three products included (though the body butter is due to ship at a later date), how to use them, and the retail price.

True Moringa Alive Face Hair and Body Oil packaging

True Moringa Alive Face Hair and Body Oil, 1.69 fl. oz. - Retail Value $36

bottle of True Moringa Alive Face Hair and Body Oil

I've been introduced to the world of beauty oil through subscription boxes and am always sort of on the fence about whether I should swap my moisturizer out with it or not. For this oil, I received a full-size bottle to try, which is always awesome. Even if doesn't end up being for me, the value is always great and can be handed over to a friend.

I am always blathering on about how nice the natural products I get in Pearlesque box smell, but this one is hands down the best thing I have ever smelled in my life. I think it's mainly because of the lemongrass. It's just intoxicating how lovely it is. For my face, I used one pump as directed by the info card and smoothed it over my cheeks, forehead, and nose before bed. It always feels a little scary to me having oil on my face, but when I woke the next morning, my face felt really hydrated and wasn't oily at all. You can use this all over, of course. On your body after a shower, in damp hair as a treatment, or even post-pregnancy to reduce stretch marks.

My only gripe is that there aren't directions on the bottle. I am a big direction follower, and the detailed ones for each use are only on the box and info card. After reading about all of the moringa tree benefits, I am strongly considering ditching moisturizer and switching to this product. It also comes in other scents (or unscented) if you don't love lemongrass as much as I do.

Jar of True Moringa Rejuvenating Body Polish

True Moringa Rejuvenating Body Polish, 4 oz. - Value $34

Another full-size product is a huge score. I'm all about the "less is more" philosophy, which applies here in the way I'd rather receive fewer full-size products than more trial size ones when it comes to subscription boxes. I'm sure there are people who feel the total opposite as well though! I was excited when I saw this spoiler because I love a good body scrub, and this one includes my favorite thing as an ingredient: coffee!

The other ingredients are also very simple; just organic sugar, moringa seed oil, and neroli essential oil are added to the Arabica coffee grounds. How does it smell though? Amazing, obviously! The coffee is definitely the strongest scent here.

I put this scrub in my shower to use immediately. The first thing I noticed is that it's very dry, unlike other scrubs I've used. Even though this one has essential oil in the ingredients, I would never have guessed there was any in there. This made it a little difficult to dole out with my fingers and scrub on because it doesn't really stick together. It felt really nice, but I feel like I ended up wasting some by dropping it in the tub while rubbing it on my skin. Other than that, this did a good job exfoliating and making my skin feel lighter.

UPDATE! As of 10/31 I received the delayed jar of the Ultra Light Whipped Body Butter.

True Moringa Box

It came directly from True Moringa in this super cute box.

They included a card that explains how they are planting more moringa trees with each purchase (as mentioned at the beginning of my review).

True Moringa Ultra Light Whipped Body Butter

True Moringa Ultra-Light Whipped Body Butter, 2 oz. - Value $32

The jar of body butter is full size 2 oz. jar, as promised. In addition to the moringa oil, the two other ingredients are Madagascar vanilla and wildcrafted shea.

The lid on mine arrived cracked but didn't seem to jeopardize the freshness of the product.

open jar of True Moringa Ultra Light Whipped Body Butter

I was expecting the consistency of lotion, but this body butter is quite thick and almost a solid. I rubbed my finger around the top to soften it and slathered it onto my dry hand. My immediate thought is that it smells like white chocolate, which must be the Madagascar vanilla. Hours later, my hands still feel quite soft. This is going to be a great product going into winter!

Verdict: I always look forward to Pearlesque Box and was excited to learn about the moringa tree! I'm absolutely in love with the Alive oil, but the body polish was a little awkward to use. The body butter sounds lovely, and I hope more than me getting it that the people of Puerto Rico get their power back on and move more towards normalcy soon. These three products have a retail value of $102, so I consider it quite a deal.

It’s interesting to see moringa being used in skincare. I’ve only known it for tea since it’s consumed in that way in Vietnam!

I get a bit frustrated when I see single oil products (in all subscription boxes). I can purchase 16oz of filtered, cold pressed virgin moringa seed oil from a reputable supplier for less than this one product. I see these products going for outrageous prices (this one isn’t bad) and feel like people are being taken advantage of. Or that I should start re-bottling oil and making a hefty profit!

I really dislike when there are no instructions on the product. 😠

I used to sub to Pearlesque but it has been on hold for a while. I loved them, great customer service, great products, really just lovely.

I just want to point out how much I appreciate the transparency and honesty of the letter from the founder, Rochelle. Providing detailed information about the delay, including emails and phone numbers, is absolutely critical in maintaining trust with customers.

From the SoChoix fiasco to the general lack of communication about delays from Oui Please, I find this kind of customer service very refreshing.

I am obsessed with dry coffee scrubs. The are messy and I find if I take out what I need for one shower and put it in another container to use that makes life easier. Who wants to drop a glass jar and all of the scrub in the shower? Not me!
