Panda Pals intro letter

Panda Pals introduces a 'pal' each month - September features Justin Beaver! (I'll admit, that made me chuckle a bit.) This month's "socktivity" includes a rubbing plate to create shapes and patterns to mimic the beaver's tail.

The plate is a thin plastic with what looks like a snowflake type pattern on it. I like this activity, and it's a bit more exciting than the stickers we've gotten in the past as a little add-on.

This subscription also includes a placemat-sized activity sheet:

The suggested age range for Panda Pals is 3-8. The activity sheet this month introduces us to Justin Beaver and has lots of fun facts about beavers, and the back has different facts specifically about tails. It's also a big coloring sheet!

My son (2.5) definitely seems a little young for this (which is fine, given the age range!). But there are a lot of great little tidbits here. He loves dogs and likes to pretend he has a tail sometimes, so it was great to expand on that idea a little bit more with him.

I've found all Sock Panda socks to be of good quality for kids' socks. Due to the detailed artwork, there are a lot of loose or cut ends inside, but they're all really soft and don't seem to affect long-term wear at all.

These Justin Beaver socks are super cute. Like other socks we've received from this box, they have a ton of detail and a little 3D detail: this month, it's the tail! They usually tie the design of the sock in with the theme that month.

We also got a pair of socks with a more subtle pattern. It didn't hit me at first, but this definitely reminds me of the patterns on the beaver's tail! Love that these are a little dressier and less silly, but still go along with the overall theme.

Verdict: As a kid who had a very colorful and funky sock drawer growing up, I do think Panda Pals is a great gift idea for younger kids, especially if their parents are telling you that they already have way too many toys! As a parent, socks are one of those things that are constantly going missing, so we're always happy to get more. Kids love to get mail, too, and the activities help make this a subscription more interactive than other sock boxes. Value wise, the socks break down to about $7.50 each, which is pretty average for design-y kids' socks (and a similar price point to other kids' sock subscriptions). Plus, you're helping to donate socks to people in need, and you get some fun activities to help round out the whole package.
