This letter was included in my package and talks about the artists who are featured in my box this month. It also mentions that $1 from every box purchased goes to support arts programs in public schools. I love that!

My box also included this fun sticker and a promotional business card for Art Box Surprise.

Mixed Media Unicorn on Reclaimed Wood by Susan Jean Tosches-Deneau of Rainbow Farts Art

Honestly, my first thought upon seeing this was, this is not for me. This is not my style at all. My second thought was, they really should include art that has a bit more universal appeal. But I actually don’t think they should do that at all. I don’t love mainstream art, and I think that would ultimately be boring. I love unusual pieces from independent artists! This one is just not for me. The next one might be. You know that saying, “There’s someone for everyone”? I don’t know if that’s true, but I do know there’s someone for every piece of art. And now, as a supporter of the arts, I have an original work from an emerging artist that I can gift to someone who will love it.

This card was included with contact information for the artist. I went to her website, and there are actually several pieces she’s done that I quite like.

Photography Postcard by Jeff Knox of Jeff Knox Photography

This postcard, on the other hand, I love! I had the privilege of visiting Joshua Tree National Park recently, and I absolutely loved it! It was like being on a different planet. Now I know what it looks like at night! This shot is just gorgeous. Look at all those stars…

The Verdict: I was really excited to have the opportunity to review this subscription. I am a huge supporter of independent artists, and I absolutely love original artwork and need more of it in my home! I was a little disappointed that the main piece I received did not suit my tastes, but I think that is definitely going to be a risk for anyone who subscribes to really any artwork or music box. In terms of value, the $35 cost of this box ($25 a month + $10 shipping) is equal to or less than the cost of similar work on the artist’s website, so I am happy with that.

  1. What shade of lipstick is the unicorn wearing?

    • This is the best comment I’ve ever seen on MSA, hands down.

  2. How exciting to get art in a monthly subscription box! I love this idea. And it does always make a beautiful re-gift in case it’s not ‘you’
