Shtrands is a subscription box that sends you customized hair care regimens from a team of hairstylists and cosmetic chemists every two months. The hair care regimen includes 4 full sized cleansing, conditioning and styling products. Products included in the box should last you two months. At any point in the subscription, you can choose to receive a completely new regimen or a mix of new products and ones you have already received and loved.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Each box sends your products in a canvas bag. This bag easily fits all four products with some extra room so it's great for storing more hair products. I've been using mine a lot when traveling and it holds up really well.

The Subscription Box: Shtrands

The Cost: $59.00 + free shipping for a 2-month plan or $149 + free shipping for a 6-month plan (bag delivered every other month). You receive one free hair care regimen (4 products) with a 12-month plan purchase. There is also a Try It option that delivers a bag once every three months for $59.

Each box includes a personalized information card - loving this one from Mara! I filled out a hair profile so these products are based on my specific needs. After you receive your first box you can provide feedback to get the same or different products.

My hair is thick and can get really dry so moisturizing products are always on my list. The only thing I changed for this shipment was a request for products that would protect my recently colored hair. I also requested all new products because I've loved everything so far and I really enjoy trying out new products.

The handwritten information card includes instructions and explanations for each product. I've received Abril et Nature products from Shtrands before and I really liked them. I have three items from that brand and one from the Schwarzkopf Bonacure line.

Let's get into the products!

Abril et Nature Color Shampoo - Value $20?

This shampoo is supposed to help with dry hair and also includes UV filters to help fight against sun damage. This reminded me a lot of the first shampoo I tried from this line which left my hair feeling squeaky clean without feeling dry. This has a very light perfume scent that barely lingered on my hair as it dried but it was really pretty. The Abril et Nature shampoos lather up nicely so I found that I don’t have to use too much product.

Abril et Nature Color Instant Mask Treatment - Value $20?

While the shampoo felt great, I always need a strong conditioner and the Abril et Nature instant masks have treated me well in the past! This had the same mild scent and protective qualities as the shampoo. This definitely left my hair feeling soft and silkier than before. The conditioners from this line are always so moisturizing! Typically, my hair feels ok after I wash it but not really soft or silky until a couple days have passed (basically until it gets a little greasy). So to have soft hair immediately after it dries is pretty amazing for me. I used this shampoo and conditioner for a couple weeks and didn't really need to do anything else to my hair for daily wear.

Schwarzkopf Professional Bonacure Q10 Time Restore Treatment - Value $21.70

This is a new brand for me and it’s a strengthening treatment. The consistency of this treatment was super creamy. I only needed to use a little bit to feel a difference. I’ve been using this about once a week or whenever my hair feels a little rough - if I end up washing my hair a few days in a row it can feel a little worn out. The scent of this reminded me a bit of cocoa butter which I love. It’s a simple mask that you comb through the middle-ends of your damp hair, leave in for about 5-10 minutes, then rinse out. This left me with salon smooth hair and I didn’t have to use a ton of product so this should last me a while.

Abril et Nature Extra Strong Technical Mousse - Value $15?

To be honest, I did a hard double take when I pulled this out of the bag. The last time I bought mousse I was probably about 14 and living a life of super crunchy wavy hair. Not my best look. So I wasn't sure about this but then I read through the instructions which soothed my worries a bit. Instead of going my previous route of slathering my head with a gross amount of product, I used a small amount and worked it through damp hair. This basically took the place of other serums or sprays I sometimes use on my damp hair. I prefer to air dry my hair and the information card said this would be a nice way to keep some definition in my natural waves while it dries. The mousse basically did exactly what it promised. I was careful not to overdo it with the amount of product and my hair dried with a bit more definition and hold - no crunchiness! This has become a nice on the go product for me and that was definitely a surprise!

Verdict: This was my third order from Shtrands and I haven't had a miss yet! This month did go back to a brand I tried previously but it was nice to try out a different line from Abril et Nature. And mousse! Who knew! I definitely wouldn't have tried that on my own and it's added an unexpected product to my arsenal. The Schwarzkopf treatment is becoming one of my favorites the more I used it so I really feel good about each item this month. The prices for certain brands are hard to locate so a lot of this is estimates based on what I could find from various retailers. My estimate comes to about $77 which feels great for a $59 box. I find that the shampoo and conditioners tend to last me just until the next shipment goes out. The styling products last me way longer since I don’t use serums or mousse every day so this box has really covered my whole daily hair regime. And I love the personalization you get with each box.
