The fragrance I chose was packaged in this velour pouch.

And this month, they sent this red holder to go with the Scentbird vials (you usually get a holder when you first sign up but it’s often a plainer color like black or white). These holders don’t absolutely have to be used (the vials work without them) but they provide some nice protection for the vials if you want to throw them in your purse or something. It’s very easy to change out which fragrance is in the holder.

Black Orchid by Tom Ford – Value $20 (buy 1 fl oz for $74)

I kind of cheated this month. I already knew I liked this fragrance (which is also why I chose Velvet Orchid by Tom Ford last month, figured I would like that one too) and wanted more of it because I only had tried a little teeny sample vial from Sephora previously.

This is a heavier scent, and a warm one, and it just hits so many of the things I love: patchouli and vanilla together, sandalwood, bergamot and a little other fruit that works with the whole blend rather than taking over. It also has some florals that kind of stay in the background rather than being too prominent (I’m not a huge fan of florals), which is how I prefer them.

This one is also long lasting and has excellent sillage (basically how long it lingers in the air). I’m going to have to go and add a few more Tom Ford fragrances to my queue now because I’m officially a fan.

Verdict: My fragrance this month has a value of $20. This is one of those rare months that my choice has been much above the cost of the subscription, but of course, you can maximize value by choosing expensive fragrances. My own strategy is to choose fragrances that I think will work for me, or sometimes new scents that sound interesting, and I love the one I got this month, so I’m happy!

I now have a total of three red holders and two black holders. It seems that they send a new one very six months or so and I’ve received a red holder the last two months in a row.

I have at least one black, one white, and one red that I know of. I don’t always use them, because I can’t ever remember what is in there. If I was the sort of person to carry perfume in my purse, I might use them. But like I am wearing Black Orchid today and I’ve had it on since 8AM (so for about 9 hours) and I can still smell it, so no need to reapply.

Have you tried any of the scents by Juliette Has a Gun? “Not a Perfume” is my absolute favorite scent and I received “MMMM…” last month. It reminds me a bit of “Black Orchid.”

I’m a fan of Tom Ford Orchid Soleil. It is sweeter and more floral in a way I like, but based on what you’re saying you prefer you may not. I love that you talk about sillage as well as how long a perfume lasts in your reviews. Thank-You

I do like sweet fragrances, but not often florals (there are exceptions). I’ve had such great luck with Tom Ford fragrances though, that if Scentbird has that one, I may give it a try anyway. Thanks for the suggestion.
