The info card mentions the monthly featured pin artist, along with a little bio. September's artist is Anna Carroll-Smith of Ted & Kip from the UK. I love her pattern mixing animal illustrations!

The other side has retail values for the included treasures.

Let's jump into the quirkiness!

Bentoy Heart Breaker Fanny Pack - Value $7.80 (on sale)

I think this is one of the most fun items in this month's box. Even though they call it a purse, it is clearly a fanny pack.

It's made of pastel pink and blue translucent PVC plastic with a neon-style "Heart Breaker" design on the front. It also has a bright pink zipper and pale pink cotton strap.

The back has a pocket for something slim to slide into.

Don't carry anything you don't want everyone to see because this jelly fanny pack is see-thru!

The belt is adjustable and has a plastic clasp to hold it on.

Here I am carrying some candy around with my lazy monochromatic sweatpants/tee shirt look.

Bentoy Wallet - Value $6.59 (on sale)

Hahaha this wallet is SO WEIRD. It's made of a faux leather material and has a dog on the front with flower sunglasses, a pink shirt, and a backward baseball cap that says "woof". Wat?

The back features what looks like a bag of dog treats. Hmmm...

The inside is metallic gold and has a lot of space for ID, credit cards, etc. There is a center card holder with a clear window that flip flops in between the front and back.

There is more card space in the back as shown, but nowhere to put dollar bills or coins, sadly. e you impressed that I am an 8-year member of AAA?

Dinosaur Socks - Listed Value $9

One item you can always count on in Quirky Crate is a fun pair of socks.

This time I received a white pair with a green dinosaur that I cannot identify. Is it real? It sort of looks like a T-Rex because of those small front arms, yet has plates on his back like a Stegosaurus (which was my favorite as a kid).

He also looks like he has the head of an alligator, but I will just stop there. He's his own dino and doesn't need my judgments.

Unicorn Tweezers - Value $1.29

Do you recall the unicorn makeup brushes I got in July's Quirky Crate? These will go nicely with them.

This is a sturdy little pair of tweezers that has a unicorn head on both sides.

You really can't have enough pairs whether you're pulling out splinters, or tweezing your brows, amirite?

Frog & Toad Press Patch - Value $5

Ew, no. I HATE cold pizza! I know I am like, the only one ever, but just no. Cold tomato sauce? Ick.

The patch itself is pretty cool, but I cannot stand behind a message that encourages this type of behavior, so I gave it to Anna who apparently loves eating cold cheese on stale dough.

Ted & Kip Enamel Pin - Value $9

The more I look at the pin from this month's featured artist, the more I become obsessed!

This beautiful unicorn lady with a multicolored mane and glittery horn is mesmerizing me. The colors chosen for this are just stellar, and I really enjoy the diamond patterns found in her nose and ears! I'm definitely going to be rocking this one!

Gudetama Stickers - Value $2.99

Whoaaa, look at you, Quirky Crate with the licensed Sanrio merch! This seems kind of major to me, but maybe I am overreacting. I love Gudetama and these stickers are hysterical.

You get quite a few single-serving stickers in this pack (60 to be exact), and they seemingly have no theme except for "huh?".

This lazy egg is always bummed out and lounging on something or other, but the sandwich is killin me! Speaking of killing, do you see him wearing a goalie mask like Jason from Friday the 13th? Am I seeing that right?? Eeeeeee!

And lastly, we have this month's candy! Smarties are almost always included, but the flamingo pop, sweet tarts, and laffy taffy are new to me.

Verdict: Quirky Crate is such a weird and fun box of goodness. It costs $40.94 after shipping, and you will always get a pin, some socks, and a bunch of other colorful wacky gear. There always seems to be some discrepancy between the value they put on the info card and what I can find online, which is a bummer, and a lot of commenters point out that a lot of their items come from AliExpress (which seems true). After totaling everything up that I could find online, I got a retail value of $41.67. All of that being said, they know how to curate a quirky box, and this subscription is unlike a lot of others out there. I love that they feature a small pin maker each month and usually include a patch from one as well. I think they are getting better all the time, so I have no qualms about sticking with this sub. If you can't justify subbing to this one, they also have a smaller little sister box called Quirky Post that delivers three items which will ALWAYS include a pin and a pair of socks.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. October's box will ship 10/15.

Value Breakdown: At $40.94 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Fanny Pack: $7.66
  • Wallet: $6.47
  • Socks: $8.84
  • Tweezers: $1.27
  • Patch: $4.91
  • Pin: $8.84
  • Stickers: $2.94

Banana Laffy Taffy is my favorite– it even caused me to lose a filling about 8 years ago (true story)! And I should have known better because I have been a AAA member for 35 years!

Cold pizza is the worst. Cold sauce, rock hard cheese, no thank you. I’m with you Marne.

Thanks for the support, Jackie! We gotta stick together!

Your reviews are always so fantastic!”He’s his own dino and doesn’t need my judgments.” That made me lol! I love everything from this month’s crate, so much cuteness and I MUST swap for those unicorn tweezers and the chubby unicorn pin!

Thanks, Janie! I hope you get those swaps!!

Maybe the sock reptile is a dragon? But yeah, any kind(s) of reptile s/he wants to be!

I’m not a huge fan of cold pizza either, but it still wins over no pizza. I like the patch a lot, and I’m working on a denim vest with patches and pin, so yay!

The Gudetama stickers, are they actual stickers, not just plastic flakes? I ask because I’ve bought a few bags of San-X (another Japanese kawaii company, probably 2nd most popular in the US) flakes that ate not stickers, just slightly rigid plastic and you have to supply your own adhesive.

As always, I love your enthusiasm, Marne! Always makes me smile!

Thanks, Kimberly! They ARE actually legit stickers. But good to know about others you’ve come across. I don’t know if I’ve seen imposters like that before. They’re just, like, confetti I guess then? The denim vest sounds rad!

Cheapy tweezers just never work well (but are so cute!). Props to them though, the box is definitely quirky!

Congrats om your 8 years with AAA. I’m 36 and have been a member for 50 years! 😂

I have been an AAA member since 1995! But they have come to my rescue a time or two, including once when my car engine completely died on me in the middle of the street.

It’s so worth it when you need it! I also do my car registration there which is nice and convenient.

Carrie

LOL! There is actually an explanation involving being spun off my mom’s membership but I will never not be amused.

The energy you emit in the way you write reviews is just exhausting to an old lady like me—and enjoyable.

Is that pin a cat unicorn?

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

Haha- I think it’s just a good old-fashioned unicorn. Does she look catty to you?

The only thing I like this month is the cold pizza club! Marne, I keep forgetting to tell you how awesome the Sally Utz tattoo is. I am from Hanover and those chips are the best ever!

Marne Orenich

Thanks, Jody!! I love chippies (especially Utz) but got it as a tribute to a friend who always wanted to get her tattooed. 🙂
