The card doesn't list a theme, but the theme for September was 'back to school' –  or 'bark to school', as one of the items puts it.

Petbox is related to other boxes in TheGiftBox line. It's like the little sibling of Pet GiftBox since it sends fewer items for a lower price. I really like the idea of a less expensive pet box as a small treat.

The Dog Ate My Homework Natural Dog Treats, 3oz – Value $1.50? (based on similar 2oz product)

These are two hard cookies flavored with peanut butter. It's hard to tell in the photo, but they say 'homework' at the top.

This is Jasper's 'don't watch me while I'm eating' look. Don't be fooled by the long face; he enjoyed these treats.

Bark Bars Milk & Cookies Natural Dog Treats, 4oz – Value $3.33? (based on similar 12oz product)

These are made by the same company as the homework treats. They're a little bit softer and more crumbly.

Jasper really liked these. I'm using them as his reward for behaving around my new little kitten. They've worked so far!

Bark to School Bus Toy – Value $8?

This school bus was made for Pet Giftbox, so I couldn't find a separate value for it. The wheels are plush like the body, so they're not easy to pull off.

I should have known Jasper would like this since barking at large vehicles is one of his favorite pastimes. Shortly after this photo was taken, he tried very hard to bite the eyes out of the bus. I'm not sure why he was fixated on that particular spot, but the toy held up and he was not successful. The bus has a kind of long-suffering expression, doesn't it?

Meet Zak, who was also a fan of the bus. Zak was abandoned after falling off a low window ledge during a storm on Tuesday night, but he's doing fine now.

This is where I have to mention that all three items in this box also appeared in the 2016 September Pet Giftbox. That's fine – the treats expire in 2018 – but that box is currently on sale for $14.99 and comes with an additional toy and bag of treats.

Verdict: My estimated value is $12.83. Since a bigger version of this box is available for $14.99 with free shipping, it's better to buy that one instead. My dog really enjoyed all three items, and the school theme was cute. I do like the idea of a smaller $15/month box, but I would like to see unique items that aren't discounted on their website.

What do you think of September's PetBox? Have you got any 'the dog ate my homework' stories? (One time my bird ate the bottom half of a book report...)

There’ll be a review soon featuring my other kitty, Shishi. She’s an orange fluffball who carefully inspects all incoming mail.

Isn’t he tiny? Even though I took that photo very recently, he’s actually grown a bit since then.
