Vital Essentials Vitalcat Minnows (0.5 oz) – Value $4.49
My first reaction to seeing these was OH GROSS EYEBALLS AND EVERYTHING. I actually didn’t open the package because I have tried (with forceps) to give my cats treats like this in the past and they just won’t eat them. I will say, this brand is generally good and my cats like some of their other treats.
Inaba Churu Tuna with Scallop Recipe (0.5 oz x 4) – Value $3.99
I am always very excited to get this brand and type of product in a cat subscription box because I just love watching my cats eat it. I bought a whole bunch of this from CatClaws not long ago for just that reason. You can see some pictures of kitties eating it below. (Actually, they weren’t even in the mood for toys after I gave them this.)
Hartz Just for Cats Gone Fishin’ Wand Toy – Value $2.49
This was listed as a bonus. It is a long wand with a suction cup and a dangly fish. I rarely use the suction cups on toys like this because my cats prefer pouncing on something I drag around. Angus did like this, although I seem to have managed to knot the string more tightly as I tried to undo it in preparation for play.
Cat ‘n Around Shrimp + Tadpole – Value $4.95
Several of my cats found the material the shrimp is made of to be quite interesting, and the tadpole also has a fun, fuzzy texture. Angus tossed the tadpole around a lot and the older boys preferred rubbing their chins on the shrimp.
Best Pet Supplies Doorknob Dangler – Value $6?
We have this exact toy in purple already and the cats don’t play with it much, but it is in the tiny room with our shower, so access may be an issue. I have put this one in the hallway where Angus is likely to see it. (The cats do like pouncing on it if I drag it around on the floor.) Ideally, this would hang down about 6 or 8 inches more than it was made to hang so the kitties have an easier time reaching it. The manufacturer name is too generic for me to find this online so the value is an estimate based on similar toys.
Snow Leopard Trust Sheep Wool Fish Toy – Value $9.95
Angus tried to steal this from me before I got the tag off. He really wanted it. As I recall, he has liked other toys from this brand as well. It has a bit of a different texture than a lot of other cat toys, and also lots of surfaces for him to stick his claws into and toss this around.
Angus is a fan of tuna paste.
Monkey really likes tuna paste. I like how he has it all over his face in the third photo.
Madison was a little cautious at first and then he’s like “I want all of this right now.”
Most of my photos of Sneaky are from her pushing other cats out of the way to get to this stuff.
Poor Mr. Kitty really wanted the tuna paste but can’t have it.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $32 for the September Pet GiftBox for cats. That’s a big improvement over last month. Although the minnows weren’t very popular, there was enough extra value that this didn’t really matter. The tuna purees made for some great photos and the toys were mostly popular as well. And everything actually stuck pretty well to a fish theme, I have also just realized. This was a pretty good box this month!
