The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online. This month had a “back to school” theme.

Kitnipbox September 2017 Cat Subscription Box

LEAP Catnip Apple – Listed Value $5

This is a standard catnip plush, a little on the large side but not too large. One side is fuzzy and one is more of a canvas type of material. Madison played with it some when he finally realized the treats weren’t coming back. I suspect Angus will get more out of it, in time.

Safemade Schoolhouse Finger Dangler – Listed Value $6

I think this and the “Crackler” below are the clear winners from this box. Angus and Sneaky both thought this was pretty awesome. It’s just a catnip plush on a string, but toys on strings are really some of the best toys, as far as my cats are concerned.

Fat Cat Crackler – Value $3.99

I am always happy to see toys from this brand because Monkey absolutely loves them (Monkey expresses love by licking something until it is wet). They are smallish catnip plushes but whatever the fabric is on the outside has a texture that Monkey just thinks is great. Angus wanted to play with this too, and there was a little conflict over that. This is supposed to make a paper bag style of crackle but it was mostly quiet.

Handmade Catnip Pencil Case by The Vegan Cat – Listed Value $5

The Vegan Cat is an Etsy store; this item is not in there, but the value from the information card is consistent with some of their shop prices. They have been providing more custom toys for KitNipBox in the past few months, which I think is fun. This is a soft wrestler or kicker type toy, but on the smaller side, which is just perfect for my crew. There is another toy from this company my cats still play with from a previous month (it moves across the bedroom floor from time to time) and this one seems like it will be just as well-loved.

Paws ‘n Purrs Purfessor Teddy Wobbler – Listed Value $6

This is one of those toys that always stays upright because it is weighted on the bottom. Monkey is really interested in this type of toy, he enjoys it quite a bit when I slide them across a hard wood or tile floor. (Monkey also really likes hard ball toys.) This also has catnip and is pretty soft on the outer layer, despite the weight.

Think Cat! Glue Bottle Toy – Listed Value $5

This is another catnip plush, one of the larger ones from this box but not too large for my kitties to be interested. This one feels like it is made from felt. (I like the different textures of the toys this month. I think that is more interesting for the cats than getting like 6 of the same thing.) I find a glue bottle kind of an odd shape for a cat toy, but then, I guess the cats have no idea what real-life objects these are supposed to represent (and goodness knows, Angus will play with coasters, table legs, refrigerator magnets, ice cubes, etc.). Angus, who likes pretty much every toy, had some fun with this one but it didn’t photograph well against his white fur.

Zuke’s Natural Purrz, Tasty Tuna Recipe (3 oz) – Value $3.99

These were universally loved (well, Mr. Kitty can’t have them, but the other four all liked them, as you will see). They smell, but not a whole lot like tuna. They are semi-moist treats that are wheat, corn, and soy free, and they’re made in the USA. Sneaky will end up getting most of these because we give her treats before she gets her asthma inhaler (and if I just put some treats out, she steals about 80% of them from the other cats anyway).

Gratuitous cat photos ahead!

Angus tries a treat. He liked these!

I have to think that these two had no idea they had separate ends of the same toy. And that it would not have ended well if I didn’t take it away from them. (Sneaky does NOT like Angus.)

Angus won a fight for this toy with Monkey and enjoyed playing with it on top of the dining room table.

Madison eats treats.

All right, so I tried to get Madison to pose with one of the toys for a photo, but he kept walking away from me and back to the treat bag. In this picture, he is chewing on the treat bag, trying to get it open.

Monkey licked this toy. A lot.

This is what happens when Angus wants a toy that Monkey has.

Don’t be fooled by the look on his face. He actually liked this toy.

Sneaky’s primary interests are (1) treats and (2) treats.

But sometimes I can get her to play with toys, too.

Poor Mr. Kitty wasn’t all that sure what was going on here. I think I woke him up. He is 13 now and spends a lot of time sleeping.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $35 for the September KitNipBox. That is a fairly average value for this subscription and is a few dollars above the month-to-month cost of the subscription, which is always nice for a cat subscription. The treats were a huge hit and most of the toys were instant wins, too.

Thanks for sharing, I just signed up our kitties. Your kitties are beautiful! For Mr. Kitty have they tried using Lysine gel to control his outbreaks? 2 of our kitties take it and it works wonders.

Ragan

We have used lysine for his eye herpes in the past but we have to buy the human supplement and crush it up in water because the gel has ingredients that don’t agree with his IBD. Monkey likes the lysine gel and Sneaky will tolerate it.

I think his main problem right now is calicivirus, which isn’t as easy to deal with, although maybe the veterinary ophthalmologist will give us some new drops on Friday when we go see her.
