So I forgot to skip or customize this month, or check in during the customization window at all. When I click on my account it simply says I was sent the “Secret Potions” box for this month – no list of included items. any chance anyone remembers what colors/items were in that box combo?

Ali

Well. Here’s the month I finally buy all the colors. Sorry hubby.

I just joined! I was not able to customize my box but I hope I get the tap and ballet eye palette I will do my nightime look with that beautiful Smith & Cult palette from PS I hope I don’t get any glitter nail polish. But I did get the 12 free polishes so this is a deal! I also bought the Zodiac set of 4 polishes.

Hey there! You’ll be able to edit your box starting on the 20th. They release a preview of what they’re releasing a couple of day prior , then open the option to edit for I think 4 days (they’ll show you a pre-customized box, but you can either go with it or swap out the items per your choosing). No one can edit at the moment, so just check back tomorrow or the 21st 🙂

Yessssssssssss, more microglitters! My favorite Julep formula! I’m digging those nail decals, too!

And the last thing I need is more shadow right now, but the Wine & Dine duo is so me! The example on the light skin tone is really close to how I do my eyes on a near daily basis.

I actually really dig Julep’s polishes as my nails have become stronger when I use their polish instead of OPI, Essie, etc. My nails peel at the ends and with Julep’s polishes and their oxygen bonding base coat I’ve had less peeling and they’ve become super hard & strong.

As for the glitter, it’s not my favourite because it is harder to get off but since I started removing my polish with nailpolish remover on microfiber face towels I bought at the dollarstore, it’s wayyyyy easier than a cotton pad, almost effortless. Guess the fibers help with rub it off easier and I can throw the face towels in the wash to clean off the left over remover after a few times (they’ll be stained though but lighter, haha). But yes, glitter is still harder to get off

Can anyone tell me what the quality of Julep polish is, compared to say OPI? I always wear a base and top coat. Have never tried Julep, but have been thinking about it!

Kris

I have used many different polishes from different companies, including OPI. I find that if I used the Julep bounding basecoat and Julep top coat, my polish stays on without chipping for about 4-5 days (I’m really hard on my nails, and struggle not to pick), which is about 1-2 days longer than I was getting with OPI. It does take a little longer to dry completely, however, it dries to a smudgeless amount in about 5 minutes, so I am able to pick things up, etc, as long as I don’t try to do something like unbottom my jeans or wash dishes for about 30 minutes. I find that their are many better color options with Julep, and with a subscription it is definitely cheaper.

For me, their polishes are not quite as lasting as OPI but worlds better than Essie.
They dry faster than all my other polishes, and they don’t cause my nails to split.

I use Posh basecoat and ILM Out the Door topcoat with all my manis.

Shana

Hands down, the best polish out there! I use their base coat, 1-2 coats of color and a top coat and it will last a week easy. It dries quickly and has amazing stay power.

Some of the julep polishes do take forever. I picked their Ta Da nail drying product and it’s amazing. It smells like lavender and ylang ylang and it helps my nails dry much faster. And it smells great. I like Julep as a box bc I can customie everything, or skip when I’m not feeling it. You can always chose from what’s new, or pick from a limited supply of older stuff. And you can always add onto your box too. I love all of Julep’s holos and glitters. They’re makeup is generally good. And their customer service is amazing. The two times I had issues with product breaking or being weird they sent me new ones immediately. I didn’t feel like a criminal or anything. Hope you check them out. Definitely get the 12 piece polish collection when you sign up.

I totally agree that the drying time of Julep polishes (at least in my experience) is not a problem at all. I put on between 1-2 coats and my nails dry within minutes. I’ve used so many different brands of nail polish over the years (Butter London, Sally Hansen, OPI, Essie, etc), and Julep has to be my favorite brand thus far. The colors go on so well, and they make my nails feel nourished. With other nail polishes, my nails (along with the nail polish) would just flake and chip off. It is definitely worth a shot! The free 12 piece gift is a great way to get started because they’ll give you different finishes and colors.

Sara

Julep is the ONLY nail polish I can wear—all other brands, including OPI, rarely dry & make my nails break & split.

I literally could not wear nail polish until I found Julep.

Obviously, it’s different for everyone but I will never again buy OPI, Essie, Butter London, Zoya, or even Chanel.

Luna

I prefer OPI as my experience has been hit & miss with Julep’s polishes in terms of chipping. I paint my nails in the evening, and some will chip by the next morning, but some will have virtually no chipping for a whole week. I hear it could depend on the finish, but I’ve honestly never taken the time to figure out which ones chip quicker. I find the drying time to be comparable to OPI though. Also, besides an e.l.f. nail polish I have, Julep seems to be the most aromatic out of all of my polishes, which is surprising because of how “free” they are, I would think the lack of chemicals would make them virtually odorless.

Rosemary

I actually think that they are fantastic. I’ve never had a problem with drying time. My friends say that since they started using Julep polishes, their nails actually grow instead of splitting. I really like everything the Julep makes. Their glitter polishes are some of the best around. This was one of my first subs, and I think it is the best value because you can totally customize every month.

Heather

Not great. Takes hours and hours to dry (I often have it smudge 12 hours later if I’m not extremely careful) and it usually starts chipping within a day or two. But the colors are pretty!

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

My experience has been different from Rosemary. I find it chips less than OPI and doesn’t take that long to dry. Most colors are completely opaque in 2 coats. I like their formula a lot, and don’t usually wear a top coat with them at all. Most colors last 5 days with no chipping on me, but every color is different.

Joy

I am so here for the glitter polishes! I’ve skipped the past few months but I cannot resist glitter.

Actual conversation:
My friend: Joy, what are your favorite nail polish colors?
Me: Red and Glitters (yes, glitter is it’s own color category!)

YES bat stickers!! Bats are my primary spirit animal.

But glitters, sob. I love glitter but I do not like trying to get it off my nails. Last time I removed some, two of my nails broke off just beyond my fingertip because they were so brittle and cracked and dry. I’m not big on cremes and I have colors like all of those anyway. So we’ll see what I decide…

Reply ButtonReply

Kris

I think those glitters look chunky and hideous, but I just switched out for items I wanted and opted for the bat stickers!!!! I’m so excited for the bat stickers!

Try using a peel-off base coat instead of a regular base coat. Alternatively, Sephora’s glitter removal works really well – it’s one where you stick your nail in and swish it around for a few seconds. I have rather long nails and wear glitter polish frequently. Both of these work for me without having broken or weak nails. I also use hair, skin and nail vitamins daily.

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

Careful with the peel-off base coats — I have had entire nails’ worth of polish just float away after washing my hands or something. I was big on them for awhile, until I just had too many days where I was suddenly missing ALL the polish on one nail.

Joy

Julep’s glitter polish remover system is fantastic! It actually removes the glitter without killing my nails. Anita’s idea works as well but does take a bit longer to work (in my experience at least).

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I agree! I’ve used Julep’s glitter polish remover system, and it works like a champ! I don’t wear glitter polish often, mostly because of how removing it feels like such a process for me, so when I do use the removers I’m always a little all-thumbs with trying to get all of those little finger caps on. But they do work! 🙂

anita

i find it easier to remove glitter polish by dampening cotton balls with nail polish remover, pressing it against my nails and then wrapping my fingers with aluminum foil. let it sit for like 10 minutes. the glitter polish comes off pretty easy after that. you can use the same process to remove the glitter polish off your toes as well.

Michelle

This will be my first month so I need to ask, do the stickers count as a choice?

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

Usually if you pick something like three polishes, there is a little value left over and you can use that for like a konjac sponge or a sheet of stickers or some small tool. If you pick a beauty product instead of a polish, you may not get to choose the stickers.

One time I left the stickers in by default and they sent me 96 sheets of the same ones…

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

I have been really good for like 18 months but these colors are so me. I might have to get all of them.

I turn 40 in October. It’ll be like one of many gifts I am sure to buy myself.

Reply ButtonReply

Gabriela

I don’t want the eyeshadow, but I loved the idea of the black polish with the stickers OMG.

Reply ButtonReply

Tracey

Me too. I’m not normally a black polish wearer, but those silver stickers and black polish looked really very Halloween for October. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I agree 🙂 I think this would be the only time I would actually get nail stickers… It’d be a fun change from my tried and true orange polish with black crackle on top (it’s simple, but looks really cool!). But, I’m not a subscriber. 🙁

anita

julep always gets me with their October collections! i may pass on a couple of the glitter polishes as they don’t really “call” to me but i will definitely try to get two of the eyeshadows.

Reply ButtonReply

Sheila

Darn, I was going to skip this month, but i LOVE the Halloween stickers. So darn cute!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Amber

glitter, glitter glitter, black….womp! the stickers are cute, but I will probably skip again 🙁

abidina

I love the Halloween-y glitters! I am a sucker for holiday themes, so I’ll probably get the stickers too. Love it.
