WODBOM August 2017 Fitness Subscription Box

WODBOM
4.3 overall rating
7 Ratings | 2 Reviews

WODBOM stands for “Workout of the Day – Box of the Month” and is a subscription box designed for CrossFit enthusiasts, by CrossFit enthusiasts. (Although, I don’t think you absolutely have to be into CrossFit to get something out of this box, as long as you are interested in working out!)

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Spider Chalk Block Chalk – Listed Value $7

Spider Chalk seems to have changed their website; they mention 5.5 ounce blocks (what this probably is) but only seem to sell 1 pound blocks, so I’ve linked to the main page for the big blocks and listed the price from the information card, which scales pretty well. I do tend to be more of a fan of solid/block chalk instead of liquid, and I ran out of my last block from a fitness subscription awhile ago, so this is handy. It is magnesium carbonate and it definitely helps me keep from dropping my kettlebells if I decide to forego gloves for one reason or another.

Spider Chalk Spider Grips – Value $1.95

This is chalk-friendly (of course!) hand protection. They are intended for single-use, which is great since they are more sanitary that way, but on the other hand, it seems like if you use a lot of them, they will just take up space in the landfill. I guess it is a trade-off. These are meant to work on any size hand; I have very small hands and they do work for me (I have used them with my 25 pound kettlebell, which tends to give me blisters otherwise), though I can’t speak for people with bigger hands.

Bite Fuel Protein Granola Trail Mix in Blue Mango (11 oz) – Value $8.99

Each serving o this has 12 grams of protein (it’s whey protein, so this is not a vegan product). It has a bit more sugar than I’d like, at 9 grams per serving, but that is not too bad for a granola product – most are sweetened in some way. This is made from gluten free oats. Anyway, I’ve had this quite a few times before and I’ve always liked it for cooking – it’s a great addition to muffins and pancakes that call for granola in the recipe. Also, my husband likes to snack on it, but I never want to just order like one bag from the Bite Fuel website, so I’m always happy to see it in boxes.

Eat Your Coffee Caffeinated Coffee Bar (1.6 oz) – Value $2.50 (buy a box of 6 for $14.99)

I’m not going to lie, I am probably not the right person for this product. I tried it, but it tasted too much like coffee for me to enjoy (I despise coffee, though). My husband had the other half and he was much more of a fan. (I usually pass off all coffee-flavored things from subscription boxes to him.) I do like that this is well-balanced in terms of fiber, fat, and protein, though it has a bit more sugar than I like to see in my energy bars.

Fitspi Hip Resistance Band – Listed Value $20

There are some resistance bands listed on the Fitspi site, but they are not the same as this one we received. This is like the kind you do squats with (so it goes with the shirt pictured below) or can put on a pull-up bar to help with pull-ups. This is a bit heavy duty for me right now but I don’t already have one in this strength so I will hang onto it for future use!

WODWelder Natural Coffee Bar Soap (4 oz) – Value $6.95

I am familiar with this brand from various fitness subscription boxes, though I don’t think I have received this soap before. Although I don’t like the smell of coffee, I do find that it is a great exfoliant and it also has been said the caffeine increases blood circulation to the skin. I’m mostly just happy that this is good soap; I used it in the shower after a workout and felt clean afterwards!

WODBOM “Those About to Squat” Tank – Listed Value $25

This was exclusive to the box and the saying kind of makes me groan. (They play AC/DC on the radio far too much in Atlanta…) Anyway, this is very lightweight fabric (great for summer) and a bit large on me, but nothing that won’t work with the right sports bra underneath. Due to the loose fit (your mileage may vary), this is probably more of a cardio shirt for me than a strength training shirt, despite the saying. (You can’t choose XS shirts with this subscription.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of a little over $72 for the August WODBOM. I did have to rely on the information card more than usual this month, but I definitely feel you are getting your money’s worth as this is more than $20 over the cost of the box plus shipping. There was a nice mix of useful items (chalk, grips), snacks (all vegetarian this month!), and apparel, with no one item taking up the bulk of the value.
