Unique Vintage 1950s Style Pink Floral Chiffon De Carlo Swing Dress – Value $98

I was a bit worried when I took this out of the package that it would be see-through (even though it is lined), but it was fine once I put it on. This is a lightweight, lined fabric. I really love the colors and of course, had multiple shoe options so that was fun. Fit-wise, this one is a little odd, with a fairly tight waist and somewhat large top.  However, the top didn’t sag or anything and it worked just fine with a normal bra.  I could definitely see myself wearing this to work (maybe with a shrug or cardigan since my office is air conditioned).

Verdict: The dress I received from Unique Vintage this month had a value of $98, which is well above the cost of the subscription plus shipping. Once again it was new merchandise (as opposed to clearance) – if you go to the Unique Vintage brand page on their site, the monthly dresses from the subscription are always near the top.  I love bright colors and bold prints (neutrals are SO not me) and the skirt is a length I really like. This one will see a lot of wear, for sure!

I’m really amazed at the great fit you get on your dresses from this sub! It seems like every review I read of yours for vintage dress of the month the fit almost seems custom made but u do have a great figure so…

The dress looks lovely on you, and I agree loads of shoe, accessories options! Love the shoes you chose to pair with this!

Do have a question as I’m a bit confused… Are these based on vintage styles but new? To me, the tip off is offering plus sizes as vintage tends to run very small in general (never look at the sizing on real vintage; a 12 can be a 2-6 crazy; I’m a vintage collector/ seller for over 40 years, my vintage sewing patterns from the 50s start at 12, fit someone tiny, pixie/kid sized like me, think patterns from 30s-40s go by measurements, makes it easier to choose correctly… ooo now I’m craving some sewing projects😉). Plus the fabric doesn’t look like a 50s pattern (always exceptions, so don’t quote me). There are many clues to find out if it’s real vintage, but that’s not in relation to my question (happy to provide answers, just ask – makes me happy to spread the vintage love, provide education, sadly unethical sellers abound on eBay, Etsy, etc… don’t get me started on secondhand very high-end designer goods, ugh). If it’s as I suspect -based on vintage styles- seems a bit high to me, as there are now so many options like this. Otoh, many considerations such as construction quality, where it’s produced (inexpensive repros all seem to come from China, many of us try to avoid), fabric quality, price per wear (the best indication/ justification for price) all are important.

In any case, as my beloved grandma & mother both would’ve said (carrying on tradition!) enjoy, wear your new dress in good health! 😘⚡️Jet
PS I always write too much, apologies! Author/ writer procrastinating on getting my books written!

These are all new items based on vintage styles. (They send the same dress style to everyone each month, plus and regular sizes alike, as far as I have been able to tell. They have a measurement chart for sizing when you sign up and I get S, which works best for my waist size and is about what I would wear in contemporary pants or skirts.)

Thanks for the quick reply, clearing up my confusion! Lovely that they accommodate so many sizes. I’m glad these companies are finally realising bodies come in all sizes and we’re all gorgeous and deserving of stylish clothes! 😘⚡️Jet

I cannot tell you how appreciative I am that you review this box. I’ve never seen this company before and as a result of your reviews, have visited their site and plan to order in the future. Offering plus sizes is a big deal for me (as a plus size) and I truly love some of their styles. What I really love is that the clothing is offered in the same styles and prints as the misses sizes. I so often hate that when you go into the plus section, you are either faced with clothing with odd looking prints, strange cuts and styles or “all the cute stuff is on the normal side of the store” – the plus girls know what I’m talking about!!

Oh and btw – you look absolutely smashing in that dress. 🙂

Thanks for introducing me to a new company who offers dresses in my size but don’t have that “plus” look.
