Enclosed with the selections my stylist, Stefania, chose for me was this crisp envelope; it included a sweet note from my stylist with suggestions for styling, an invoice for everything in the box, a shipping label, and tape to use to reseal my box for returned items. I find these all incredibly handy and useful.
My third trunk arrived to me in its elegant Trunk Club trademark suitcase; the details in its design are just top notch! I love the very personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.
My stylist, Stefania, and I typically chat on the Trunk Club app after I try on the items she selects for me for each box. Last time around I told her my likes and dislikes from the last trunk and also sent her some links to items I saw on Nordstrom’s site I liked. I always appreciate how open she is to my feedback and how she applies it in her selections in the next box.
Shift Dress w/Zip and Ring Puller by Michel Studio, size 3x - Cost to Keep: $95
How can you go wrong with a little black dress? It is a staple in any wardrobe and for every occasion; it is the epitome of a timeless wardrobe piece. The fabric of this viscose and elastane fabric dress has a great stretch and fits rather comfortably. I like the front zipper because it enables you to decide how conservative or revealing you want the décolletage to be. The cut on this dress is flattering to a number of figures too. The pockets are another great feature about this dress as well. The cost of $95 is fairly reasonable due to how adaptable and versatile this piece is. You could wear this to the office, a hot date, or wedding. Plus, this could be worn in winter with a button down shirt and knee high socks and boots or in the summer months with heels and a cute clutch.
Combo Skirt Dress in Green by Rachel Roy, size 3x - Cost to Keep: $129
This dress’s emerald green jewel tone is gorgeous; my cousin aka photographer told me I looked like a “real life Ariel from The Little Mermaid.” Thanks, cousin! The fabric is very light and I like the satin detail on the collar, by the buttons, and on the mermaid tail like bottom hem. The color and the satin details were not enough to make it work for me, though. This dress looks fantastic on the model on the Nordstrom site. It engulfs me and my 5’6 frame; the length just does not work for me whatsoever. That being said, I feel that this would be enchanting on someone taller than me. Plus, the price is a bit too high for my liking. Sorry, Stefania!
Elbow Sleeve Color Block Sweater by Michel Studio, size 3x - Cost to Keep: $68
When Stefania sent me this, I couldn’t help but think of my mom’s collections of short sleeved tops in the 80s. It also kind of has a Mondrian painting/Partridge family bus vibe to it in my mind as well. I think it was kismet she sent it to me because oddly enough, I had a purse that matched it perfectly! Go figure! This sweater is very soft, stretchy, and light weight, so you could wear it in the summer in the office and be comfortable. I have been kind of at odds with this unrelenting cold shoulder trend, but I do like the detail on this top. I liked the sweater on, but not enough to keep it for myself. I could see this pairing great with a pencil skirt and open toed mules like the ones featured on the model on the Nordstrom site.
Ponte Ankle leggings by Sejour, size 3x - Cost to Keep: $45
These leggings are pretty fantastic. I have mentioned in some of my other reviews my love for ponte fabric. I love ponte fabric’s thickness and stretch, but also how smoothing the fabric can be. These leggings are very soft, comfortable, and they have great stretch that doesn’t lose its shape. You will never have to worry about transparency too; they are rather opaque. Even though they are thicker; they can certainly be worn year round as well. $45 is a decent value for the durability and versatility of these pants. For those reasons, these pants were one of my favorite items in the box.
S/S Crew Neck Cold Shoulder by Addition Elle Love and Legend, size 3x - Cost to Keep: $38
As soon as I put this on, my photographer aka cousin, oohed and awed. She is a huge fan of the color purple. Purple is not my favorite color by any stretch, but hey, there are always exceptions to the rule, right? The top is a made of Modal fabric, which is similar to rayon and has a nice stretch and is soft like cotton. This top drapes well, and I really like the cold shoulder detail on this particular top a lot. The price of $38 is pretty comparable to competitors and I find it is reasonable, especially for the quality of this top.
Ladies Woven Tunic by Michel Studio, size 24w - Cost to Keep: $58
When I first saw this in the trunk preview that Stefania sent me, I was not keen on the print, but I chose to not remove it and be open-minded. This polyester top has little stretch, which can be off putting for me, but the cut of this top is rather flattering. I was pleasantly surprised by how this top looked on, I thought he print, zipper, and the slight cold shoulder would be excessive. I still don’t like the print, especially since it has so much purple, but it is a very flattering shirt! The zipper detail is adorable as well.
Danika Ripped Stretch Ankle Skinny Jeans by Slink Jeans, size 24w - Cost to Keep $98
I always look for darker rinse skinny leg jeans with a high waist-- and Stefania is well aware of that about me! These jeans are pretty fantastic. The rinse is the perfect dark indigo-black and they have ample stretch from the cotton/polyester/Tencel lyocell/ spandex blend. They are so suede soft too. These would be universally flattering on so many figures. $98 is a little steep for me when it comes to jeans; but honestly when you think of their high-quality construction, versatility, and frequency of how often they would be worn, these jeans are a reasonable value.
Long sweater vest by Sejour, size 3x - Cost to Keep: $79
I hate to say it, but this is probably my least favorite item in the box. Now, hear me out. It is not due to the quality; this is well made. The Sejour brand is fantastic, I know from Stefania sending me other items by the brand. The vest is very soft and is a great layering piece. It just is not my style at all, but that is ok! When I see this piece, I see so many possibilities in its styling. It is a very chic piece. I actually see this pairing well with knee high boots, denim skinny leg jeans, and a white button down or a black and white striped boat neck top. I could see my mom with her classic style pining for this piece; she would rock it incredibly well. It just doesn’t fit my style and would be lost on me.
Verdict: This box was full of a few hits and some misses. My favorites were items that were great values that are incredibly versatile staple pieces like the LBD with zipper detail, the purple Addition Elle Love and Legend cold shoulder top, the Slink Jean capris, and the Ponte fabric Sejour leggings. These pieces can be worn in various ways for a number of different occasions, so their value is significant. I always love seeing what my stylist, Stefania, selects for me. Even though the other styles were not ideal for me, that doesn’t mean they aren’t for others. What I love best about Trunk Club is their app because it allows me to talk to my stylist in a convenient way. I have said it before, but that is what makes Trunk Club stand out. You don’t just fill out a one-time survey or talk to your stylist once a month like some services. I am in constant contact with my stylist and she is always receptive to my feedback. This is one feature that makes Trunk Club a worthwhile, standout service.
