Wow, I could almost cry in frustration after wasting my money. I just subscribed to Play this month and thought I had signed up too late to receive this month’s box. To my surprise, I got an email today saying it had shipped. I did my research on the box #s and ended up here for spoilers… I got 221. I noticed people with “medium” skin tones complaining about the samples being too dark, but guys, I PICKED “PORCELAIN” ON MY PLAY PROFILE. This is beyond awful!

Call them and tell customer service you want to send your box back. They will send you a label and mail it back to them. I did this last month and will do the same when I receive my box( I am also 221). They credited my account and let me keep the 50 points. I am also fair(red hair, green eyes). Any chance you might be in 40 plus range? Because, every woman at work who subscribes is getting this box and being 40 is the only thing our skin has in common.

Nope, I’m 20. Thank you for the advice; I will definitely be contesting this major disappointment… It feels like my Play profile wasn’t even glanced at, which makes me worried for future boxes.

I wish i would’ve gotten any of these boxes but due to some idiot stealing my money out off my account and locking me out of my own bank account I’m not receiving this month’s box and I really like this bag design and all the products.. Super bummed. Hopefully I get thus resolved soon bc since my card was rejected they cancelled my subscription and if my new card don’t hurry up I won’t be able to subscribe again.

I wanted to provide an update to my original post regarding the August Play Box # 221 that I received. Based on my past positive experiences, I reached out to the Sephora Facebook Team and I am again impressed with and extremely appreciative of their responsiveness. I was told that the answers in our profile are definitely taken into consideration and chosen products are tailored towards our preferences. They told me they were referring what I experienced to the QA Manager for follow-up. Plus they are sending me deluxe samples that are in line with my skin tone, which I was not expecting. The Sephora Facebook Team consistently provides exceptional customer service and I wish I had thought to contact them in the first place.

I had the same issue and my representative told me that they arent supposed to send out any different samples. He gave me a decent number of points to make up for things, because this was my first box so i was extra disappointed.

Hi, did you use chat? or did you send customer service an email? They offered to have me mail by box back, but could not give me samples that would match my pale skin tone. So, I am curious(and impressed!) as how you managed that. I would love to know.

Thank you for posting your initial information. It was definitely helpful to share being told such a thing. You did the right thing, as far as I’m concerned. You also did exactly what I do, which is immediately…stop what I’m doing, and update new information that might impact a person or a business. Again, you did the right thing.

I’m dissapointed as well. This is literally the only time Sephora has sent a complexion product made for deeper skin tones and I dont even recieve it. Instead I get volumnizing spray for my already gigantic curly hair. I might cancel as well. Dont lead me to believe it will be customized when it wont be. Or stick to really general products like shampoo and lipstick.

I wanted to share some important information regarding the Play subscription box not being customized.

I just got off the phone with Sephora Customer Service. Unfortunately, I cancelled my Play subscription that I have been very happy with so far. I received August 2017 Box # 221. I asked the customer service representative to confirm the skin tone on my Play profile and he confirmed that it is medium. Box # 221 included a concealer 8 shades darker than my skin tone and a foundation 5 shades darker than my skin tone. I asked why I received a foundation and concealer that I cannot use and after putting me on hold he told me that his supervisor reported that the Play box is not customized. I asked why are we asked to complete a profile if it is not customized and relayed that by completing a profile one would expect some degree of customization. I asked if I could get a refund and he said I could take it to a local Sephora store and he is sure they will give me samples I can use. I then asked him to cancel my subscription if there is no guarantee that I will receive similarly unusable products in the future. He then cancelled my subscription because there can be no expectation of any customization.

I seem to recall a couple of months ago that we were asked to make sure our profile was accurate because of a variety of skin tones available for samples in our boxes?

Anyway, I wanted to share this to help increase awareness that there is no expectation that Sephora Play boxes are customized.

Thank you for relaying your experience and that we cannot expect our taking the time to fill out a profile to mean anything. I agree with you. What is the point? If anything, it actually leads one to think that it WILL lead to customization. I am likely to follow your lead if I wind up with useless products. I did not get any makeup products that related to skin tone, so thankfully it did not matter this month, but I’m sure it will one month.

this is the earliest I have ever gotten my play box! so I like that. But I am box122 I feel like its the only box without a concealer or foundation so I am kind of irritated you would think the beauty blender everyone is getting they would have one of those in every box would I don’t use hair product’s but could use he volume but I will probably never use it never use it just like all my dry shampoo’s owhh well we win some we lose some !! lol

I got box #120, and I’m trying to figure out why the h***L I keep getting volumizing hair products. My hair is so thick my stylist almost always uses thinning shears for my cut, and it’s super poofy and fine to boot. I spend my life trying to depoof it, not add MORE volume!!!

I would have been so much happier with one of the boxes containing the living proof shampoo.

What the heck?? I’m box 221, one of the “lucky” ones who gets the foundation and concealer…… in about 3 shades darker than my skintone?!? Still can’t believe this crap is my box, literally any of the other variations would have worked as I can use a lighter product for highlighting. Complete waste, I’m canceling. After being with the subscription since the beginning and a Rouge member, I’m officially frustrated with this company. 😠

haha i just looked at the colors they gave for box 221 and i think they might be to dark for my skin tone too but i did mark deep thinking it wasn’t that deep. Guess if it is to dark i will change my skin tone to tan.

Omg I was so jealous of the box with both hourglass and the lock-it concealer only to find out that box 221 (mine) gets the same treatment. Trying so hard not to fistpump through the living room right now. I’m not excited at all about the clarins (conspicuously ambitious claims for a lotion) but I will use it.

I just hope the foundation and concealer match. If not I can try to bronze or highlight accordingly. It’s a good starting part to learn.

My box always comes at the end of the month, around the 25th. Not that excited about mine :/ I’m getting #130, foundations/concealers never work for me since I’m a very pale redhead and they always send medium tones. I wish they could make it work so I could try it. I wish I could try the Erborian Glow Crème Illuminating Face Cream! I am excited about the Clinique mascara duo and the Alterna.

They sent a light concealer in my box, so you might get light as well. It was a smidge too dark for me, but it worked great anyway and I’ve already purchased a full size 1 shade lighter. Seriously, try it. It’s a game changer for my dark undereye shadows.

I STAND CORRECTED, this is the longest Ive waited for a box , AND I have to say its shaping up to be worth the wait. Both the concealer and foundation seem to match my profile is both rare and exciting for a subscription. Im waiting on the post man as I type ,EXCITED TO PLAY with my Sephora box!

I’m getting #122 and would gladly swap for this bag. The Hourglass foundation in Golden Almond is my everyday makeup but a travel size would be great, not to mention getting to try the Kat Von D concealer 🙁 I think it’s finally time to switch up my profile!

The Hourglass foundation is definitely not a travel size, maybe unless you are Barbie. That is the tiniest foundation sample ever!!! Reminds me of all those Avon sample lipsticks my mom used to get from her Avon lady when I was a kid. 😸
