Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con Palette No. 7 (The Lolita) – Value $49?
When I was choosing which Mystery bag to order, I asked my husband to pick #4, #5, or #6. He chose #4 and he chose right for me! This palette is exactly one I’ve been eyeing for a while from Marc Jacobs! (Although it looks like they discontinued their last line-up of these shadow palettes for new colors – hence, I assume, why they were made into mystery bags.)
I always love Marc Jacobs packaging. Everything has this sleek, smooth, black casing and this palette has a little silver push button for the latch. Plus, it came with the protective sleeve seen above, and a foam shadow applicator.
This palette is made of neutral shadows, which is what I reach for on a daily basis. There’s three matte shades, three shimmer shades, and a glitter shade. I like the range of neutral colors, but I feel like it’s missing strong medium shades for blending, specifically creases.
I do have to say that I’m really glad I got this palette in a mystery box because I probably would have been disappointed with it for the full $49 retail price. The colors do not have intense pigmentation – they’re light to medium pigment, which is great for learning and experimenting and blending… but compared to palettes from other brands that are out there (Too Faced, Urban Decay, etc), the color intensity doesn’t stand up well.
That being said, since I did get this palette in a mystery box/for less than full-price, I’m happy with it. The shadows are easy to wear every day and blend together.
Here are swatches of all 7 shadows. Some are very pale/light and hard to see on my skin in this photo, but they’re swatched in the same order that they are placed in the palette.
Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer #332, Hot Hot Hot – Value $28
This shade of lip gloss is a bright fuschia, and it’s gorgeous! It’s moisturizing, has medium color-payoff, and isn’t sticky! It also has very high shine, which is a finish for lips that seems to be coming back lately. I’ve never tried MJ glosses so this was a new discovery for me.
Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick in #108, Have We Met? – value: $30
This shimmery, warm-pink lipstick is honestly the winner for me in this box! It’s also a new discovery for me and I think it’s great. This packaging is so pretty and luxe – it closes magnetically and I love the silver button (which is non-functional) in front. The formula is also fantastic – it’s a sheer but buildable coverage with a slight shimmer finish. It’s very hydrating and comfortable to wear. The wear time doesn’t last long but I think this shade would look great on anyone and has been my go-to daily color!
Here I am, wearing a look from the eye palette and the lip gloss.
Here’s a closer look at my eye makeup. For this look, I used the middle, shimmer shade on my lid, the second shadow from the left in my crease, the darkest brown for the corners of my lids (with a light hand – that shade is the most pigmented of the bunch) and the far left shadow to highlight
And here’s the lipstick. I love the finish and the easy-to-wear pink color. It’s just easy and versatile.
Verdict: I loved my Marc Jacobs Beauty Mystery Kit (#4)! I have loved his brand from afar but haven’t explored many of his products hands-on. I love that I got the palette I’ve debated buying on and off for a long time. The three products I got in this mystery bag are awesome for day-to-day wear and I know I’ll get a lot of use out of everything. I’m not thrilled with the formula of the shadows but they’re definitely still nice and usable, and I didn’t pay full price for the palette so I’m not too bummed. And, I really love both lip products. For ~$45 shipped, I’m happy with what I received. The value adds up to $107!
