Fruit Salad Dress by City Chic in size XXl (24)

As soon as I saw this dress on the Gwynnie Bee site, I had to closet it! This gorgeous dress is the epitome of summer! There is so much to adore about this piece. First of all, I loved the sweetheart neckline; it is so flirty and flattering. The straps on this are adjustable and the cut is great also because the top of the dress goes high enough to cover some of my underarms. The material has a slight stretch and fits the chest and waist like a dream. The skirt flares out perfectly and defines the waist amazingly; I was lucky to get my dress with the matching belt that further defines the waist! I feel like Miss Yvonne from Pee Wee’s Playhouse in this dress! You too can be the prettiest gal in Puppet Land in this dress: The magic word is CLOSET; as in closet this immediately for all your Labor Day cookouts and shindigs!

Oh, and did I happen to mention also that it has POCKETS?! Yup, that is the cherry on top of this fruit salad as far as I am concerned!

Malla Tie Front Kimono by Junarose in size 24

I love, love, love palm prints, possibly due to a lifetime of watching the Golden Girls. Either way, I can’t deny my love for a perfect tropical palm print. This kimono is so summery and has a fantastic retro vibe I was immediately attracted to. The breezy sheer material has no stretch and the fit it is slightly over sized. A belt was supposed to be included with this piece, but it did not come with mine. I paired the kimono with a black cap sleeved bodycon dress and my favorite pointy toe gold flats; but ultimately I see this kimono working better coupled with a black bikini, Bakelite bangles, and cat eye sun glasses lounging poolside with a cocktail in hand. Talk about living the dream!

Abstract Geo Dress by Adrianna Papell in size 24

I was attracted to the pastel yet bold color pallet on this dress as soon as I laid my eyes on it on the Gwynnie Bee site. The geometric print has a retro, yet very modern feel. I noticed in the description for the dress that it didn’t have stretch, so I sized up. I feel like I could have sized down to a 22 since I had a lot of room to spare in this piece. The polyester fabric is very light and breezy, perfect for those hot late summer days. The flutter slit sleeves are a nice flirty touch too. This dress would look fantastic with some gold bangles and nude strappy sandals for a night out.

Verdict: I love Gwynnie Bee! I really like being able to peruse their selection and chose the pieces myself, unlike most subscription boxes. Gwynnie Bee is a rental service, so being able to actually wear the items rather than just trying them on is fantastic; it allows me to try trends I may have never desired to before. The cost is reasonable too; it is like having a revolving closet like Cher’s in Clueless without having to dish out the big bucks.  I also like that the turn around after returning an item is only a few days at most. This service is a total dream for a fashion fiend such as myself!

Do you love Gwynnie Bee as much as I do?

Your reviews are the BOMB!!! Loved the first two pieces on you, the third not so much. I actually look for your reviews and am excited to read through them. Love the way you style your look and how you make suggestions for alternate looks. Glad you are on the review team!

Lulu, Thank you so very much! This is so sweet.

I have to agree, the third dress was pretty much just kind of looked boxy on me. You win some, you lose some, right?

I am so glad to be apart of this review team as well and I am happy you enjoy my reviews! thanks again!

I have tried Gwynnie for the first time this month and I have been really happy. The turnaround time has been awesome and I’ve tried some fun clothes that fit well! I didn’t buy anything this month, although I was tempted three times 😉 I just am trying to be super picky but Gwynnie gives me the thrill of new clothes without having to commit!

Amy BB, isn’t it awesome! I love the service. I have bought two pieces from them so far, and trust me, I have been tempted along the way several times! hahaha. Sending the fruit salad dress killed me a bit! haha. I am so glad you are enjoying the service though as well!

I adore your reviews! Your voice really comes through. You looked fabulous in the first two and I agree with the comment that the last dress swallowed your great figure.

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Katie P! I am glad you love reading my reviews because I really have so much fun doing them!

Yeah, that third dress was so cute, but just way too big on me. I wonder if it would have worked in a smaller size. Maybe I will try to re-closet it to see! haha

Tanya

I also love Gwynnie Bee! I tend to only like about half of the items so far. Some items don’t fit, some have material I don’t like, and some it turns out I just dont’ like in person. I even had one that smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. But, I send them back and get new ones within a week. And the items I’ve liked I have LOVED!! I’ve even purchased 2 items so far. It’s so much fun to go to work in new, fresh outfits!!

Nicole Rieder

Tanya, that is a bummer about the one dress smelling like cigarette smoke! I haven’t had that problem with GB myself (fingers crossed). I am glad that overall you love the service, though! It is a definitely a nice way to try out different looks and styles for sure. Thank you so much for checking out my review!

Dawnn

love Golden Girls, lol I immediately thought of them too! The Geo dress looks amazing on you!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Dawnn,

Yes! Golden Girls are LIFE! And thank you! That geo dress sure was cute. I am debating requesting it in a smaller size. I may, but there are too many styles I have closeted that I cannot wait to try out! Thanks again for checking out my review!

Traci

I’m a HUGE fan of Gwynnie! I have subbed to it for quite a while now. I’ve never been disappointed with what they ‘ve sent me.

I decided to try another sub similar to Gwynnie but canceled the moment I opened my box. Our dress styes didn’t match whatsoever. They were also way too small.

1 Thumbs Up
1 Thumbs down

Nicole, all of the clothes look great on you! If you can only choose one, choose the first one. That one can be worn day or night.

Nicole Rieder

Traci,

I am so glad you love Gwynnie Bee as much as I do. I love being able to actually rent pieces and wear them and return them. You get the rush of getting a new outfit without spending lots of money. Can’t beat it!

And thank you. I returned that dress and trust me, that was a hard task! haha. Thanks again, Traci, for checking out my review!

Michelle

Wow ! The fruit dress is awesome but the LBD and palm kimono, wow!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Michelle! I know, right? Both were fantastic!

Noelle

Love, love, love all three pieces…I actually said WOW as I scrolled down. Each so different yet worked for you…..Do they tell you how much to buy? The vintage fruit salad is a keeper….

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you so much, Noelle! I loved the selections this month too! The beauty is there is no obligation to buy, but if you do the items are sold at a discount since they are preworn. I love GB!

Ann

Pee Wee’s Playhouse, Golden Girls, and Clueless?!? Gurrrl, you my bestie from another teste! If you ever need a roommate, call me, lol.

Great choices above! That first dress looks like it was made for you. Do they let you buy pieces if you love them?

Thanks for another great review!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Ann, your comment made my day! Might I offer ya some cheesecake on the lanoi?

As for whether I can keep the items: Yes! I failed to mention that in my review. Oops. You do have th option of buying the preworn pieces at a discount. I have bought two dresses so far, one Eloquii red and blue striped dress that is in my first GB review. That is what I love about them too tbh!

Thanks for checking out my reviews, Ann! Stay golden! 😉👍

Ragan

I love the fruit salad dress and it looks great on you. I would totally buy it for myself if it came in my size.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Ragan! Awe, I wish you could wear it too because it is absolutely darling on. They have that same cut/style dress by City Chic in different prints, but that one is the best by far!

Reply ButtonReply

Marissa

You look amazing!! Love the Kimono!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you so much, Marissa! It is pretty dang cute!

Loba

That fruit salad dress! It is so fun and looks amazing on. That would be a piece I would be tempted to keep. Beautiful!

That palm kimono. I love how you styled it (down to those cute gold shoes!!!). I also could imagine it poolside (your description was awesome). You have shown me how a piece I would have stayed away from can be styled beautifully.

I’m not loving that last dress. Swallows up too much of your figure (I get that you sized up but I still think it isn’t a very flattering cut), the cold shoulder cut outs lay weird…just not my favorite. But that’s the awesome thing about this. You get these items, can potentially be riskier than other subs, and if you like it wear it out once or a couple of times, love it keep it or if it doesn’t work – send it back right away and wait for something else.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Loba,

Thank you! That fruit salad dress is everything. I think I had a single tear roll down my face when I returned it. It is just too cute!

And I am glad you loved how I styled the palm kimono. It is so retro and makes me think of Palm Springs, CA. I just adore it. I am glad I could show you some fun styling options for it!

And yes, I love GB because even if I get a piece I don’t like I can just get it back in the mail and get something I like. I am waiting for my next item as we speak! It is a dress I have had in my priorities for a month or so, so I am excited to get it. You will see me in next month’s review for sure. :o)

Thanks again, Loba! I always get a kick out of your comments! Always so thoughtful.

Sara

I LOVE the fruit salad dress, it’s so cute!! Looks great on you!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you so much, Sara! City Chic has similar cut dresses with different prints, but the fruit one is far and away my fave!

Ashley

Lol! I cracked up at the Golden Girls reference. I immediately think of the Golden Girls when I see palm trees as well!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

I am glad I am not alone on that, Ashley! It is one of my all time favorites!
