Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Workout Challenge

This is my first Fun Run Box, and I was excited to get a box that included some challenges instead of just gear and snacks! This month is "Back to School" so the challenge is PE themed.

I looked at the first few days of this schedule and thought "this should be easy"... ha! I'm not through all 12 days yet, but admittedly my arms are the weakest part of my body, so my push ups and pullups are rough, ya'll. I usually work out from online videos but I actually really liked having this piece of paper, since it meant I was less distracted by my phone and more likely to stay on task.

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Workout Challenge

In addition to the 12-day challenge you receive in the box, Fun Run Box has a lot of options for socializing with virtual teammates and staying motivated! You can post a photo each day about your workout to earn points for your team. Everyone on the winning team wins a prize– this month, it looks like a $50 gift card to the FRB shop, which is pretty sweet if you ask me!

Although I didn't post in the Facebook group myself, I did join to get an idea of the crowd, and it was really pleasant. People were definitely posting good photos and cheering each other on, which is always nice to see. Love the idea of this virtual team!

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Back to School

There's also a magnet included in the box. I wasn't sure why at first, but then it hit me that you can use it to stick the workout plan up on your fridge or in your office to keep it visible.

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Stinger Waffles Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Stinger Waffles

Honey Stinger Kid's Organic Waffle, Honey & Chocolate - Value $2.82 (Buy 14 on Amazon for $19.75)

I'm not sure if these kids' snacks were intentionally included due to the back to school theme or not, but I don't care, because I really liked them! They were like tiny stroopwaffles. The chocolate flavor was a little chalky but the honey flavor was something I'd be tempted to snack on regularly.

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Energy Gel

Honey Stinger Organic Energy Gel, Fruit Punch - Value $1.12 (Buy 24 on Amazon for $26.76)

I do like these gels because they're primarily made from organic honey and other natural ingredients. This one had a nice fruity flavor that wasn't too overwhelming. I don't do a lot of very long runs, so I mostly find these handy for mornings when I haven't eaten breakfast but don't want to run on an empty stomach.

Exercise Bullet Journal - Value $5?

The next item is this custom running bullet journal! This is a good size (about 8.5 x 5.5) and I love that it includes some basic instructions for use. Plus, it is actually kind of fun to fill out I track a lot of this info in the Runkeeper app currently, but I've always loved physical notebooks so I may need to give this a try. Do you track your workouts digitally or on paper?

I also got a few colored pencils to use in the journal... except I'm not sure why I got a white one, which is a bit useless on the white journal paper.

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Towel Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Towel Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Towel Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Towel

Branded Microfiber Towel - Value $5?

This is a branded Fun Run Box item, so I looked for similar sized items online... but mostly I could only find bigger microfiber towels. So I'm guessing a bit on the value for this one.

This is one of those small items that I've never bothered to buy on my own, but now that I have it, I'm glad I do. It has come in handy during kettlebell workouts for sure, although I haven't taken it running yet. It hasn't been super hot here lately so I haven't felt the need.

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Backpack

Lewis N Clark Electrolight Backpack - Available on Amazon for $16.97

The last item is this super cool ultra lightweight backpack! I just got back from a camping trip with a friend of mine, and she used an ultralight for our day hikes while I used a regular bag... and I was amazed (read: jealous) at how much more comfortable and light hers was. I was very pleasantly surprised to receive this in my Fun Run Box when I got home!

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Backpack

The bag has a few nice features despite being so lightweight. First off, it all packs down into this tiny ditty bag, so it's easy to carry.

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Backpack

The ditty bag itself can be removed or tucked into the bag once it's open to securely store your keys or other small items. Love that! These small bags often don't have a ton of pockets, so it's nice that this one is dual purpose. There's a simple flap-style velcro flap inside, too.

Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Backpack Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Backpack Fun Run Box Review, July 2017 - Backpack

It has adjustable straps, but otherwise, it's pretty no-frills. This will definitely come in handy on outdoor adventures in the fall though– I like I have something to carry layers of clothing that get removed as the day warms up, for example. The bright colors are nice if I end up using it for running or biking, too.

Verdict: Overall, I thought this was a fun first experience with Fun Run Box! I found the workout challenge to be, well, challenging! And I was very happy with the hero item, the ultralight backpack. There were two branded items included, which makes the value a little tricky to calculate. Overall, we received about $31 worth of product in this $35 box. But that doesn't include the workout plan, online resources, and online challenges and community that you also get access to. If you find that those things help motivate you to stay on track and push yourself further, then Fun Run Box might be worth checking out! If you're looking mostly for new gear and workout clothes, then there might be other fitness boxes that are better for you.

Recieved my first box and immediately canceled. Contained a very cheap visor and rag, 2 endurance samples, and a sample sun block like you would purchase at walmart. Contacted fun run box and was just sent a copy of their “no refund, no return policy”. Definitely not worth the price! Very disappointed!!

This box has sent some pretty awesome gear since I’ve joined, including some wireless earbuds a few months ago that retail for over $100. Every month has a different theme but they are all fun and challenging. This is the only box I’ve subscribed to that feels like more than just getting a box of stuff every month.

I’ve been getting this box for about 5 months and it’s so much fun! The group is super supportive, and the team competitions have helped me get to know other subscribers/runners. Great community of folks cheering each other on. The challenges are well put together and motivating. Just what I need to reward myself and keep chuggin along with running.

Love the idea of this box, but there’s nothing exciting or new in it, especially for the price.

This box looks like a free gift bag from a literal fun run event. No thank you.
