Cat Claws Club is a bi-monthly subscription box for cats filled with lots of toys, treats, and other surprises.  (They just use whatever box will fit the items, so it varies from month to month, but it allows for some unusual item shapes, which can be fun!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cat Claws Club August 2017 Pet Subscription Box

The Subscription Box: Cat Claws Club

The Cost: $33.90 a box ($24.95 subscription price + $8.95 shipping)

The Products: Lots of cat items, mostly toys, including some exclusive and/or new items.

Good to know: Although PayPal checkout shows as an option for this subscription, you can’t actually pay for the subscription with PayPal.  I checked out that way the first time and they contacted me, processed a PayPal refund, and I had to resubscribe with a credit card number.

Ships to: U.S. ($8.95)

Included was a brochure with more information about the products. There was also a card asking you to share on social media.

Cat Scratching Pad Plus Packet of Catnip – Value $6.50

These were supposed to be part of the same item but I didn’t quite catch that until after I took the photos. Anyway, what I like about this scratch pad is that it has a cardboard bottom so catnip doesn’t fall through the corrugated bits to the floor. Well, that, and the cats like it a whole lot.

Wobbler Toy with Feathers – Value $3.95

I didn’t get any pictures of cats with this, but this is totally a Monkey toy. He loves hard ball toys (the bottom of this is a hard, weighted ball so this always stands upright) and he chases these things across the kitchen and dining room. Our other ones have all lost their feathers so it is nice to get a new one.

Kitty Twinkles (5) – Value $2.98

I have dozens of these things because they used to be Mr. Kitty’s favorite toys (back when he still played with toys). He would chew and chew and chew on them until they were encrusted in saliva. Angus plays with some of them too. Anyway, they have a soft center and sparkly threads coming out. I find the sparkly parts to be well-attached, although these are small enough that I take them away when I am not around to supervise.  Mr. Kitty would totally eat these (I’ve seen him try before).

Goldie Goldfish – Value $5.95

This is just a simple fleece cat toy with some catnip and stuffing in it, but it was the clear winner of the box. Sneaky liked it, Monkey liked it, and Madison rolled all over it and just had the best time. It is somewhat large for a cat toy but very lightweight, and it has stood up to a lot of rough treatment so far.

P.S. That’s catnip from inside the mailing envelope all over the place. It made kind of a big mess…

Fish Teether – Value $5.50

This is a dental toy that is supposed to help stimulate the gums and clean the teeth. It has two rubber ends and a middle “floss” rope, plus it is also flavored. I could only get Angus to bite this (see below) but I suspect by the time I got around to this one, the other cats were irritated with me. Some days are like that.

Nylon Collar – Value $2.99

My cats are indoor-only, so they don’t usually wear collars. That being said, I might have to put this on Angus. It has a little bell that will let others (like Mr. Kitty, who can’t really see) know that Angus is coming and have a bit of time to prepare. (Angus is young and wants to play; the others are all seniors.) This is stretchy so your cat won’t get strangled if he or she gets caught on something.

Here are some cat pictures for you:

Angus kept standing on the lid of the scratcher and hitting himself in the face with the other part. I didn’t quite catch that on camera, but in the second picture, I think you can see where that is coming from.

I seriously love this picture. He is the only cat who would bite this.

So this subscription comes in whatever container they have on hand. This month it was a plastic envelope. Because of the scratcher, the plastic envelope was full of catnip. Angus had a lot of fun rolling around with the envelope. (Yes, I took it away from him after these photos.)

Sneaky was interested in the box contents but didn’t want to admit it. I think she was hoping for treats…

Monkey liked the cat scratcher and also the fish toy. He rolled on the fish toy but you couldn’t actually see the toy in most of the photos.

Madison was really in the mood to play with the fish toy. He rolled all over the floor and had just a wonderful time with it.

Mr. Kitty’s nickname is Sparkles. When he was on appetite stimulants for awhile, he used to pick up larger versions of these toys and carry them all over the house, all while making this howling noise. It was hilarious.  He doesn’t do that anymore, and frankly, he seemed irritated that I disrupted his nap for these pictures, but he’s like 13 now and chronically ill and almost blind, so he spends most of his time sleeping.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $27.87 for the August Cat Claws Club. That is above the cost of the subscription, but it comes up a bit short when you factor in the shipping cost. This box often has a higher value, so I think this was just a low month. It definitely averages out over time. And I’m inclined to be positive here because my cats really had fun with the items, none of which were repeats from other cat subscriptions. The cat scratcher was a huge hit and the goldfish was unexpectedly popular, as well.

I had to giggle at the “Angus is coming” collar. He must be more than they want to deal with at times.

My vet once suggested that for Monkey and Mouse, a cat I used to have who passed away. Monkey is at least 11 now and he has mellowed out. Now it is Angus chasing (usually) Sneaky.

This review is very generous. I would love to send a cat box to my grandcat but honestly, this stuff looks like the same items I can find at the dollar store.

If you click the links on the item names, you’ll be taken to a place where you can purchase these same items for the exact prices listed. Sometimes quality is not evident from photos alone but can only be seen in handling the items, and many of these are also made in the USA (as opposed to China).
