Everyone could use a spa day, right? I suppose the first step is eliminating interruptions. This door hanger is reversible.

Beauty Junky Detox Pamper Pack - Value $10.99

Beauty Junky Detox Pamper Pack - Value $10.99?

I don’t normally treat myself to beauty products like this, so I was excited to dig in and see what they’re all about. I started with the cucumber & aloe vera face mask and was surprised to find it was basically just lotion with an artificial cucumber scent. Upon closer inspection, I realized the package has the word “fragrance” in small print; it doesn’t actually claim to have any natural ingredients nor revitalizing effects—I think the idea is more that it’s fun to put something on your face and chill for 15 minutes. I admit, I enjoyed my 15 minutes of quiet!

The same concept was true of the eye gel pads, hair mask, and foot cream that came along with this “face mask.”

You Are AMAZING Juicy Grapefruit Exfoliating Body Scrub & Wash - Value $3.99

Following my little at-home spa treatment, I took a shower using the included exfoliating body scrub and wash. I’ll admit, as soon as I saw the word “exfoliating,” I thought to myself that it was almost guaranteed to contain microbeads, which have proven to be horrible for the environment, but I was delighted to find that the back of the bottle claims this body wash is paraben- and phthalate-free, not tested on animals, and does not contain microbeads. I feel clean enough, but I really wasn’t a fan of the extremely artificial “juicy grapefruit” scent—I felt like I was bathing myself in candy.

Loofah - Value $3?

I forgot to use this loofah in the shower, but it’s pretty classic as far as loofahs go. I like the cute striped ribbon loop on it.

Girlfriend! Twisty Microfiber Hair Turban - Value $14.19

Now, this is spiffy! It’s a special hair towel made from an absorbent microfiber material. It’s designed so that its elasticized edges hug your head, and it twists and buttons in the back to stay in place.

My hair is a little too short to all fit in the towel, but it’s a cool concept!

Olly Nutrition Goodbye Stress, 2 servings - Value $1.33 (buy 42 gummies for $13.99)

Tazo Refresh Mint Tea, 3 teabags - Value $1.11 (buy a box of 20 for $7.40 on Amazon)

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Nail Polish, Fuchsia Power - Value $2.49

Next up, a mug of refreshing tea and some...stress relief gummies?...I don’t totally understand the concept of these, but they definitely tasted good! I’ve tried Tazo’s Refresh Mint tea before and knew it to be delicious. This is where I would paint my nails if I were going to. This bright pink color isn’t in my palette, but I think I’m pickier than most.

Beauty Junky Beauty Boost Trio - Value $7.00

Here’s another little set of lotions: a face mask, hand cream, and hair mask. Since I had already showered, I just tried the hand cream. Consistent with my previous experiences, this had a really fake cucumber scent. This was also weird: when I peeled back its tab to open it, a sealed layer remained behind. When I punctured it, the lotion kind of exploded. It seemed like a flukey thing, maybe as a result of it being kind of cheap.

CampusCube Exclusive “I Woke Up Like This” Pillowcase - Value $10?

Finally, this pillowcase. It’s 100% cotton and made in the USA. It came out of the package extremely wrinkled, so I steamed it and tossed it on my guest room bed to showcase its full potential. As you can see, it’s completely not my style, but for someone with different tastes, it’s really fun and cute.

Verdict: It was so much fun to open this Spa Aah box and see it bursting with a ton of colorful goodies. I can only imagine a college student receiving this box will feel very loved! While I didn’t find the contents to be the highest quality, nor were they really my style (I’m 6 years out of college, but even back then these items wouldn’t have been ‘me’), they add up to about a $65 value, which makes it great deal. I’d just make sure the recipient of the box would be into these types of products before dishing out the $39.95.

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.

Those ‘face masks’ sound extremely disappointing. I’d be a little mad if I paid $40 for this and got a bunch of packets of lotion and other items you can easily get at Ross or a similar store.
I’m starting university in the fall and while these items might be nice to have in my dorm, I wouldn’t sub to this box to get them when I can get them much cheaper at, like I said, Ross.

It should be noted that this review has been edited since it’s original posting and while I see no issue with that, it does make the original comments seem unwarranted when they were based off of something no longer there

I think this review is fair and positive considering the contents of the box. The curation is pretty good regarding the types of items, but the quality of those items seems to be lacking given the price. I’m no longer in school but it would miss the mark with me now and it wouldn’t have been to my taste back then either. Especially compared to other sub boxes selling for that same price or less. Some have mentioned this box should’ve been reviewed by someone in college. I can see the point but to me it honestly makes no difference as long as the items are clearly photographed with links to product info.

The quality doesn’t stack up against the cost of this box, inflated values aside. I think the reviewer kept things quite positive considering what she’s working with here.

It feels like the overall tone and vibe of MSA is changing which makes me sad. I love having multiple reviewers and opinions but something is off lately.

I agree as well! Lately I’ve read reviews for children’s things by someone who doesn’t even have children! In addition I’ve had several of my comments not even posted, I suspect because they weren’t in agreement with my opinion. It is sad.

I have had this happen too, but I think they just take time to review the comments. Mine have always showed up a little while later. With some of the nasty comments I’ve seen on this site, I don’t believe they are censoring you for disagreeing with the reviewer.

While I do agree that the people reviewing should be the target customer, perhaps sometimes this isn’t possible for Liz to coordinate? She is overseeing a lot here! Just trying to give the benefit of the doubt, because I do think college students should review college student subs, parents should review kids subs, with kids’ input etc.

Something else I also notice about this site, and it’s more the commentors/readers than the reviewers. Many people are increasingly most concerned with retail value, and whether someone else’s variation is worth more $ than the one they got. I saw someone upset recently because her box was only a little over double the value of what she spent? I think it was $45 or $47 value for a $21 box, but her issue was that someone else got a higher value box from the same sub. If that’s what’s most important to you, you’re entitled to your opinion, but subscriptions are a gamble, a way to get fun surprises. If it’s going to actually upset or anger you that you didn’t get the most value for your dollar, perhaps you should just not sub, and go shopping, couponing, whatever it is you do to ensure you are getting more for your money. Life’s too short to be unhappy with your purchases.

I agree. This box should of been reviewed by someone who could look at it from a college students point of view instead of just saying not my style, and fake scent, etc. It saddens me to read reviews that seem as if the person writing is criticizing bot only the box but the type of person who subscribes to the box!! This website has helped me find over 25 subscription boxes I love but lately I’m losing my confidence in some of tithe reviews.

You are spot on. Not only with this review, but there is definitely something “off” with a lot of the reviews lately. Too many of them are overly positive (not this one) reviews and using the inflated values the companies are giving.

Virginia

Hope the box is clearly marked SPA or they will be looking for snacks.
