Like most meal kits, BurgaBox comes to you packed in a cooler-bag situation within a cardboard box. It also includes directions on how to cook your meal.

BurgaBox has opted to use paper takeout containers for a lot of their ingredients. As you unpack further, you'll find most ingredients in plastic bags, and a handful of plastic containers.

Ice packs are essential! I happened to be around when it arrived, so I put it all directly into the refrigerator.

There are multiple cards included in my All American Feast Kit. The only problem with having several cards instead of one is that it doesn't break it down as closely as other kits saying "while that's cooking, start this other thing". However, if you read the top of the burger sheet, it does say to prep the mac n cheese and fries first. This is where the importance of reading through a recipe's entirety helps.

Here is the overwhelming TWO POUNDS of gourmet mac n' cheese. When I ordered this kit, it allows you to choose which mac n' cheese you want! I chose buffalo, but they also have regular, bacon jalapeno, chili, honey BBQ, pulled pork, and sausage and peppers. Wow. That's a lot to choose from! It's already made, so all you have to do it preheat your oven, and put it in for the cook time specified. Mine wasn't frozen, so we went for 40 minutes.

Ok, so now we get to the burger sheet.

The flip side of this one has an ingredient list, tools you'll need, and step by step directions on how to prepare your burgers.

Here all are the needed burger components.

The first step is to cook the bacon that will top our burg. The cuts were really thick and four slices were included.

Next, my roommate Tony and I used the spice packet to season both sides of each patty and added them to a hot grill pan on the stove (about 4 minutes each side).

We then added the cheese to melt on top.

While the mac n cheese was cooking and the burgers were waiting to be assembled, Tony made the fries, which are cut into thick wedges (my fave!).

I chose garlic parmesan when I ordered, but you also have the option to receive: buffalo, cajun, chili, and pizza. Cajun probably would have been my second choice.

The third direction sheet included is for the fries. It gives you two choices of how to prepare them. Tony opted for the stovetop/deep frying method, and in the words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Big Mistake.

Unless you are an experienced fryer or have an actual deep fryer, I suggest just going the oven route. We clearly didn't use enough oil, and then they ended up kind of a big pile of mush. Lesson learned (I feel like I say that a lot).

Once that mess was over, we pulled out the mac n' cheese.

Bask in its cheesy buffalo-sauce glory.

Lastly, BurgaBox includes 8 oz. of each baked beans and coleslaw. I'm not really a fan of either, so I could have been fine without them.

We assembled the burgers with the blue cheese dressing and BBQ sauce on top. Clearly, this is a TON of food for two people.

The burgers were crazy good! They were large and in charge, and included everything we needed to make it over-the-top! The buffalo mac n' cheese was my second favorite part. It was super cheesy and I loved the buffalo flavor mixed in. Luckily, I have more leftovers for a midnight snack, or to pair with another meal. Like I mentioned, the fries could have been better, but that was on us. I implore you to just bake them if you end up ordering a box! They still tasted pretty good, to be honest though.

Verdict: BurgaBox is certainly a unique take on meal kits, and definitely doesn't aim to get you eating healthy, like most. I couldn't eat this meal even once a week, but I could see receiving the BurgaBox of the Month to go all out once every 30 days with a surprise burger, or mailing a themed kit to a friend who loves burgers, as a gift. However, I feel like the price point on this is a bit high. If you purchase one of their themed kits, it's $65 ($32.50 per person). If you subscribe to BurgaBox of the Month, it comes to $59 per month for two people, which is $29.50 per person. I could certainly get my favorite burger with a side and a cocktail at a restaurant in town for that much. Unlike other meal kits, I have leftovers, but felt like the sides were overkill for two. I'd prefer to have half or a third of the mac n'cheese, less fries, and cut out the beans and 'slaw for a cheaper price. Compared to the other meal kits out there, you can get two more full meals on a two-person plan for roughly the same price (Blue Apron is $59.94).

The concept is awesome! BUT….the price point is not so awesome. I would totally order this if the. Price for two…was the price for 4.

I am a huge burger fan, but I don’t like any of those sides. $30 a burger is insane. The box would have to come with a handsome man to actually cook the burgers for that price. I’d rather pay $30 or 35 for 2 burgers and no sides.

I’m on the Burgabox site just to check it out, and they say if I use code TRIAL at check out I can get $20 off my first box. $45 is still a lot of money for this, but hey, it’s something. 🙂

These look amazing, but I wish there was another option besides beans and coleslaw. I would totally be interested if they had other sides you could swap out. It IS expensive, but looking at this – it looks like it’s definitely more than 2 servings.

That’s one unhealthy combination, both mac n cheese AND fries and burger bun too? That said, I’d probably eat the sides and skip the burger!

That price is unreal!! For $65. I am not cooking.

Starla

That’s crazy expensive for two burgers. 65 bucks is a meal at a fine steakhouse for two if you don’t drink alcohol.
Don’t think I’ll be trying these awesome burgers anytime soon.

Okay, now I am STARVING. Marne, how could you do this to me??

One of my favorite local restaurant chains is Elbows — they specialize in mac & cheese. Their buffalo mac is amazing; they top it with boneless buffalo chicken tenders & blue cheese crumbles.

I love burgabox! I am not a subscriber but they always send me coupons so I have tried most of their burgers. My favorite was the Mother’s Day special.
