My son, Fox, is 16 months old and is at the age where he is starting to really understand the world around him. So it was exciting for both of us when the box came and we were able to open it together! Let’s see what items we received in the August box!

Bluum August 2017 Mom and Kid Customizable Subscription Box

Yorba Baby Foam Bath, 10 fl oz. – Value $13.95

Yorba products are 100% natural, and this foam bath is made with marula oil and other ingredients that help to protect and hydrate your little one’s skin. My son is very fair which means his skin can easily dry out if we aren’t careful with our bath products, so I was excited to see that this is made with his skin type in mind. We had tried a bubble bath with him before that didn’t go over well so I was nervous to try this. I was wrong, I can’t get my son out of the bath now he loves this bath foam so much! It has a light citrus smell to it and you can tell that it is oil based just on how the water feels and how soft his skin is even after being in the bath for a long time. I was a little surprised by how much this item costs, but now that I know my son is obsessed with the product we will be buying more in no time!

Stephen Joseph Bottle Buddy – Value $8.95

I can’t decide if my son is too young or too old for this item. He doesn’t use bottles anymore, and all of his sippy cups were either too short for this holder or have handles and wouldn’t fit. I think it is a fun idea, but my little guy is so active I couldn’t really get him to hold this on his own. He loves animals though and thought it was a fun toy. After reading some reviews online, I am going to give this item another try when we are out and maybe something I could even attach to his stroller or wagon.

Safari: A Slide and Play Book by Surya Sajnani – Value $5.22 on Amazon (retail price $9.95)

This was the perfect item for my son right now because he is obsessed with both books and animals! The book itself is very beautiful with black and white pages, unique handwritten writing and drawings of each animal. I love the slide and play element to the book as well which allows him to read and interact from page to page.

Mudpuppy In the Forest Deluxe Puzzle Wheel – Value $15.32

We are just starting to get more into puzzles so this came a little early, but will be great to have ready for when he is ready to start building with puzzle pieces! I must say though that this is the prettiest puzzle I have ever seen, coming in a mini hat box like holder with its own lock. My son was so excited to see more animals and even though he isn’t able to put it all together, he is enjoying trying and making the animal sounds for each piece!

Verdict: I love the fact that Bluum curates each box based on my son’s age! I think each box will only become more fun for us to open as he gets older. He really loved basically all of the items in this month’s box, and even the bottle holder will be something we try again. Each item had a higher price, so I most likely would have never bought them on their own if I saw them in the store. It was great to try them this way! I calculated all four items out to $43.44, which falls a little short of the $45 or more value promise on their site. However, I really am happy with the overall quality and value of the items we received. Fox and I are so excited to see what next month’s box will bring!

What did you and your little one receive in the August Bluum box?

  1. I though Bluum was horrible. And I thought they went out of business, too!

    • It looks like they might have changed their overall box model a bit for this year. This was my first box from them, but I really loved it! Check back next month to see if the quality of each box is improving from your experience. Thanks!

  2. I subbed to Bluum for like 6 months in 2016. it was HORRIBLE!!!!!!! You got to pick your items, but then almost never got what I picked. The last box I got value was like $20 tips, the box was $35!! Their customer service is severely lacking, they don’t care if you don’t get your picked items. It’s super frustrating and my boxes never reached a $45 RV. I would NEVER waste money on that box again. Kub Klub started out way nicer, less money, good value for the price paid. I LOVE Lillypost for books, with a coupon I only pay $15 for 5 boardbooks a month for my son!!

    • Thanks so much for the feedback! I will have to try those other boxes for my son as well!

  3. I subscribed to this box in 2016 and was consistently disappointed in the items. This box looks interesting… Thanks for reviewing. I look forward to seeing if their boxes are getting better

    • I totally agree with you. I subscribed to them in 2016 as well and it was a constant disappointment. I couldn’t wait for the subscription to end.

      • Agree! It became a chore to pick between terrible options

        • Thanks for the feedback on your last experience! This was my first time using Bluum, but it looks like they might have changed how you select and how they curate each box from last year. I will be reviewing again next month so stay tuned to see more of what they are offering this year. Thanks!

        • Yes! That’s exactly what it was like trying to pick between the options. Many were either the same from month to month, or just cheap junk which would leave you with very poor box value. I had a year sub that ended in December, I think. My first several months were alright, but then I just wanted it to end. I even received the exact same book two months in a row.
