Beauty Box 5 Subscription Review + Coupon – July 2017

Beauty Box 5 is a subscription box that sends 5 deluxe & full-sized products to your door each month. You receive a mix of products ranging from makeup, hair care, skincare, nail polish, beauty tools, and fragrances. Luxury, drugstore & Indie brands are included.

FYI – this July box didn’t ship until August, and Beauty Box 5 hasn’t been doing a great job of proactively communicating to customers or responding on social media. I’ve reached out to them to get a status update. I’ll post when I hear back. In the meantime, I would not recommend signing up for a subscription until we know more.

Now, on to the items!

Styli Style Line & Seal Eyeliner – FULL SIZE! Value $6.50

This shade is “black pearl” but I’d consider it more of a grey. There are glitter flecks in the formula, too. The pigment is pretty good, and it glides on smoothly. (Swatched in lower photo.)

Manna Kadar GLO Illuminator – 8 ml Value $11.60

This liquid highlighter goes on shimmery pink, but it blends out into a barely-there glow. (It also works well mixed with body lotion for a little extra shimmer all over.)

While I feel Manna Kadar is a bit overexposed in subscription boxes, I’m a fan of this formula. (Swatched in lower photo.)

Seraphine Botanicals Quince & Crimson Lip/Cheek Crayon – FULL SIZE! Value $24

This is an intensely pigmented lip pencil that wears down to a more hot-pink shade. If it’s too bold for your lips (like it is for me), you can also blend it as a blush. (Apply it to your finger to rub on as a blush cream, it doesn’t blend easily enough to be applied directly to your face.)

NanaCoco Nail Polish in Copacabana Coral – FULL SIZE! Value $4

This is a high-shine coral creme. Very summery! Full coverage in two coats:

Lustea Beauty Argan Oil Hair Masque – 60 ml Value $7

This hair mask smells lovely, is safe on color treated hair, and left my hair feeling soft but not greasy. Good stuff all around!

BB5 Makeup Brush – Bonus

Beauty Box 5 also included a makeup brush to apologize for shipping delays.

Verdict: This month’s Beauty Box 5 has a retail value of about $53 – not counting the bonus brush! If they hadn’t had such major shipping delays/lack of communication, this would be one of my favorite boxes from them ever. Everything is full sized or a great sample size, and the value is great, too.

I’m hoping Beauty Box 5 can be more proactive in communicating about what’s going on, and hopefully August is back to normal with shipping. (Again, I’ll post when I hear back from them.)

  1. I prepaid for 3 months! I got June and July boxes, no August box.

  2. Did you see their last post? They said harvey ruined everything but still keeps charging people.

  3. I just assumed when I get billed it takes a month I got July’s in the beginning of Aug was billed for Aug expecting that one this month and just got billed again which I expect in Oct

    • They took my money never sent anything and still won’t answer me and never refunded my money wish I could warn people

      • I canceled after they billed me for Sept. I emailed said you’ll hear in 2 days it’s been almost 3 weeks I’m so sad I got only 2 boxes but billed for 5 I really liked them too maybe time to contact the BBB and report them

  4. I have been subbed to BB5 for years….like 4 years with maybe a 3 month break. I received my July box a couple weeks ago. I have not received August and do not expect to any time soon.
    I would think that the July delay would automatically creat an August delay. I understand that they might have had to prepare for the storm, too.
    I love BB5 boxes, for the price point and the items…they are pretty awesome. Honestly, this is the first time that I have EVER had an issue. I do not mind waiting on a box, as long as I know it is coming. I recently had to get a new bank card, and need to update all of my subscription accounts…( I will not update Glossy Box…and will wait to update BB5.) Today will be my day to update CC info. I might not update a few more so I can try something new.
    Anybody have ideas for a clothing subscription that takes debit cards…that caters to size 14???? I recently left a 14 yr relationship and my wardrobe mostly consists of nursing scrubs, lol.

    • I love stitch fix and joined for similar reasons. I am a size 14 and recently left a long term relationship. So far, everything has fit and out of three boxes, there was only one item I did not like.

They posted on facebook today blaming hurricane Henry for why they haven’t sent boxes out…claimed their warehouse is destroyed and appear to have two profiles defending them and calling people out as heartless and such when they are saying they didn’t even get july, way before the hurricane was around. .now they have a legitimate excuse, but not really..more like they are taking advantage of.

  6. I haven’t received July or August boxes.
    I’ve emailed them every week for 3 weeks with no reply. So I paid for a 3 month subscription I assume I’ll never get. I even messaged them on Instagram weeks ago with no reply. Such a waste of time and money. I ended up cancelling I was so disappointed .

  8. They just posted an update due to hurricane all shipping including August boxes will be delayed.

    • But hurricane just started, shouldn’t the August boxes be shipped long time ago?

      • You would think so!!!

      • I was thinking this also, the boxes should have been ready to go out 1 or 2 weeks ago. I got a year sub in November, so if they don’t fix this shipping problem I will cancel. I learned after the HUGE Little Lace fiasco don’t wait around for a company when you have a feeling something is up.

        It’s really too bad tho…this is the only box at this price that I can think of that sends full size products not miniature samples. My teenager and I LOVE this box!!! We will be really sad if we are forced to cancel or they go under.

      • When they gave the update about shipping July boxes on Aug 4 they said they’d be shipping August boxes on Aug 18. Obviously there’s not keeping to their schedule. I’m in Canada and still haven’t seen my July box.

I’ve yet to hear from bb5 myself…of course, my July box was also late…and when I got it the eyeliner and lip crayon were missing…in the box was about 3 peices of the colorful packing filler they usually use and 3 dirty heavy duty rubber bands. I sent them an email about replacement products WEEKS AGO. They never responded. I promptly cancelled.

  10. For some reason when they shipped our box this month, they included the new subscriber bonus gift even though we are in month 4. I am not complaining, but it could be a clue to chaos behind the scenes. I hope they get it together, my teen daughter and I really like this box.

  11. July was a pretty good month for them, & I’d love one with either the grey or plum liner – but at this point…. what are the odds?

  12. Thanks for the heads up on the problems with this subscription Liz! I’ve had my eye on this 1 and have been considering giving it a try but I don’t want to deal with a company who is unreliable. Hopefully they get it together because they do have a marketable product.

  13. My gift recipient still hasn’t received the July box AND they have had zero communication and not responded to the two emails I’ve sent AND they keep trying to charge me again when a gift is not supposed to be automatically renewed. They’ve broken ALL the rules.

  14. I really really really want this to be a good sub, but every time I am about to pull the trigger and subscribe, I get nervous that BB5 might end up folding or crashing. This box looks amazing, I’m glad it finally arrived!!

  15. While I don’t subscribe to this box, I noticed the post card style of card with an “Austin, Texas” city and state on it.

    If they are located there, this recent hurricane might cause a truly unavoidable delay on their part, and also on the part of shipping companies. However, if they had shipped according to the date in this post, the boxes would have already been on the way to subscribers. Sad.

    • How at all is a hurricane that just happened the cause of their July boxes being late? That is just ridiculous to even suggest.

      • That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking! LOL

      • I did NOT suggest that a current hurricane caused a delay in July shipping or anything about any month’s delays.

        I said that it will cause delays for shippers and businesses at this point, in general, of all kind. I said this company should have already had their packages mailed PRIOR to the hurricane.

        To make assumptions that I stated something that I did not, then call me ridiculous based upon the made-up stretch of the imagination, then a couple of other people LOL at me for stuff that I did not state?

    • Yes they are located in Austin Texas .That said this has nothing at all to do with what happened in July. Also they are if I remember correctly about three hours away from Corpus So I’m not sure if it would effect them as I have absolutely no experience with hurricanes.I had been with them for over a year and something definitely is up with them because I used to get their box the first week of the month. I had to cancel a few days ago I just can’t stand when there is no communication and I just wasn’t sure if I would be left holding the bag .

  16. I understand that everyone is pezzed about the shipping delay but honestly I’ve been subbed with them for years and this is a first with that said now it seems like augusts box is having the same issues so that’s really not cool at all!

    • Any idea why they aren’t keeping subscribers posted or returning messages? I’m not subscribed but have been watching the comments because I’m interested in subscribing. I’ve seen a lot of comments about the lack of communication between the company and its subscribers. Has this always been an issue or maybe something recently has happened that has caused them to be unable to keep up or something?

      • They’ve always had communication problems, but eventually they would get back to you . Now they’ve locked down all social media and they don’t return emails at all. I’m really sad they let this happen with their company because I’m always rooting for small businesses

    • I haven’t received August’s box yet and its the 28th!!!!

    • I was gonna say the same thing – that this is the first time something like this has happened, so I’m not ready to write them off as “unreliable” just yet.

  18. I got the eyeliner in a plum violet, which is awesome!!! And I’m the person who can’t handle eyeliner at all LOL. Love it. My nail polish was a gorgeous fuchsia. Agree with Liz that it would have been an AWESOME box if we had received it in July, even without the brush.

    Looks like the August box is a repeat of the saga – no communication at all from the company, and the August box will come in September if it comes at all…

    Thank you Liz for trying to get a straight answer from them. I recall them saying that the August boxes would come out by the 18th of the month. Yup, nice try.

  21. When I finally received my July box last week the brush handle was in the box, but the brush top was missing great bonus half a brush and not the half you use to apply your shadow. I received the eyeliner in plum and nail polish in a clear color with pink sparkly chunks in it. Nail polishes like that never go on very consistently in my opinion, but for a fairly cheap less than $4 a bottle nail polish it wasn’t too bad. Hopefully August ships soon still says processing for the last nearly 4 weeks.

  22. I assume they haven’t shipped August yet mine still says processing since the beginning of the month and I just received July last week or so.
