This was my first experience with Trunk Club. What I really like about Trunk Club is how extensive their stylists are. Sure, for other clothing box companies they do surveys, but I frequently talked to my stylist, Stefania, on chat on the app. I linked her in on my Pinterest and from that and our conversations we had she sent me pictures for inspiration to see if I liked any of the items. From that, she sent me a link for a preview of the items she selected. I did not decline any of the pieces she chose because I wanted to be open to her selections.

The one thing I was surprised about upon receiving my trunk was the appearance. I had just come home from vacation and wasn’t sure if it was, in fact, my trunk because it did not have the ornate style and personality in the packaging I have seen in ads and other reviews. It didn’t include an invoice or return shipping sticker even, but my stylist was on the ball and had a printable one emailed to me. Still, what you see in the previous pictures is exactly how it came. Just felt like any other package you order online, to be honest.

White Lace Bell Sleeve Dress by Glamorous, Size22W—Cost to keep $79

I remember my stylist sending me a pic of this dress and I thought it looked cute enough, but upon trying it on I felt like a cupcake personified. The fabric underlay is a stretchy poly spandex blend and the overlay is a soft lace. The cut wasn’t bad, but the dress felt boxy on my figure. I tried to break up the vibrant blinding white with my faux leather biker vest and leopard chunky heeled boots. This dress could be dreamy with some gladiator sandals and a floppy hat for any summer get together.

Rich Black Top with Chiffon Yoke by Vince Camuto, Size 3x—Cost to keep $69

The fabric of this shirt was such a dream! Some mixed material items can be questionable to me, but the stretchy cotton part of this shirt was so buttery soft and the see-through chiffon was a nice touch to what could have been a very basic piece. It is a fantastic top that can be dressed up or down. I couldn’t get past the sticker price myself, but one could argue due to how well this shirt is made and its adaptability that you are scoring a great staple piece that is worth the cost.

Indigo Jeggings by Wit and Wisdom, Size 24w—Cost to keep $78

My stylist heard me loud and clear when I said I like a straight leg skinny jean, that is for sure! These jeans were velvety smooth, incredibly comfortable, and had the perfect amount of stretch. I have thick ankles and calves, but these pants were tapered in just right.  I typically go for ultra high waist jeans and these were not ultra high on the waist, but still hit me in a great spot. Plus they are the PERFECT shade of deep blue. These jeggings get a solid two thumbs up from me. Way up.

Kyle Convertible Saddle Bag in Ivory Pristine By Chelsea28—Cost to keep $52.93

This purse is just a very classic day to day purse; another staple item. It is very well made, but it took me a minute to figure out how to unbutton it. I never said I was mechanically savvy. One thing I like about this purse is that you can wear it across your chest or use it as a handbag. It is also big enough that you will be able to fit an ample amount of makeup, keys, wallet, and a pair of sunglasses easily. I usually carry around a tote bag that is essentially a suitcase, so this kind of purse would entail me condensing what I carry. It paired incredibly well with everything Stefania selected!

Red Fiery Tie Neck Shell by Sejour, Size 24w—Cost to Keep $69

I really liked this top. The fabric was like a stretchy chiffon texture. I also really was happy to see something in a bright and vivid color. This certainly could be paired with anything from the skirt I paired it with or the jeggings my stylist suggested. It is a basic piece that is immensely versatile.

Black Long Fitted Skirt by Vince Camuto, Size 3x—Cost to Keep $79

Guys, let it be known that my weakness is a perfect black skirt. I have several skirts about this length in cotton stretch material. I wear them with everything from old band shirts and saddle shoes to dress shirts and pointy toe flats at work. They are my ultimate and most vital item in my wardrobe because you can wear them with everything all year! This skirt was fantastically made. The fabric was soft like suede and had the perfect amount of stretch. I really tossed around the idea of keeping it, but ultimately could not justify spending the $79 (especially since I have a legit surplus of similar skirts). It really pained me to pack that skirt up to be quite honest.

Tan Oxford Moto Jacket by Sejour—Cost to Keep $77.40

My cousin (aka my photographer) was in love with this jacket! She was sad it was not in her size. She loved it, but I was more lukewarm about it. I loved the similar jackets my stylist sent me as suggestions, but I liked them more on the models than myself, ultimately. I will say this-- I liked that it was a moto style and that the material was light and soft for chillier summer nights, but I am not a fan of browns and tans. I am so pale that I feel I get lost in these lighter colors.

Pin Tuck White Lace Top by City Chic—Cost to Keep $69

I was concerned about this top initially due to the fabric. I was afraid it would have no give. I was mistaken, though; it actually did have some stretch and give. I like how the lace is an underlay and creates a beautiful pattern and texture against the white chiffon. However, I did not like the cut of this top; it was too boxy on my frame.

Rich Black Front Zipper Ankle Pants by Vince Camuto, Size 24W—Cost to Keep $89

These black pants may have been my least favorite in the box. They had the necessary stretch I seek in the fabric (I assume there was a bit of spandex in them), but I did not like the length of these and how they hit me. I was excited to try these on too from looking at pictures my stylist sent, but on my 5’6 frame, they made me appear shorter than I am. These would look great on someone a bit taller paired with a trench coat and western style buckle belt for a chic look!

Paris Slip On Loafers by Sam Edelman—Cost to Keep $129.95

I told my stylist that I loved loafers and oxfords in one of our conversations and due to that she sent me these lovely leather loafers by Sam Edelman. Two issues I had with them: they were a mule style and the cost. My size 9.5/10 feet (aka Barney Rubble feet as my little brother lovingly calls them) barely fit in these shoes. That is not the shoe’s fault, though! These are gorgeously well-made shoes. The quality is evident when you look at them and since they are leather, I am sure they would stretch and maybe even accommodate my feet!

Verdict: I was disappointed by the lackluster packaging of my trunk and that it didn’t include a personalized invoice and shipping label, but I have no complaints on my stylist. The chat feature Trunk Club offers makes it stand apart from most of their competitors; it makes the experience far more personalized and detail oriented. My stylist was always incredibly thoughtful, accommodating, and I really enjoyed working so closely with her. She really took a lot of my suggestions to heart. I loved the red top, jeans, and skirt she chose for me and I am excited to see what she comes in my next box with the feedback I provided her.

Marina

I really enjoyed reading your review. Your comment about the Barney Rubble feet made me laugh. I got wide feet from my mom’s side of the family, which I lovingly call “Fred Flintstone” feet.

Hahaha! You get me, Marina. My brother will play a YouTube clip of Barney Rubble driving when I walk in my mom’s house to mess with me. It is hilarious! Hahahah

You are so lovely I can’t even comment on the clothes yet!! You really should do professional modeling!

Nicolet Rieder

Omg, thank you so much, Alex! That is so dang sweet of you to say! And yes, the jeans, red top, and skirt were my faves of the bunch. I really miss that skirt. It was sooooo comfy and cute!

Alex

I think you look great in everything but I totally get why you didn’t keep the clothes that were uncomfy or not your fave. I love the jeans and the red top. So cute. The jeans are perfection.

I love your hair color and cut, 😍!

Thank you, Michele! My hairdresser is the real MVP!

Loba

Kids interrupted me and I accidentally lost my comment so I’ll be more concise:

Red and black tops: Awesome! Jeans and black skirt: awesome! If I were you I’d be tempted to keep those.

White pieces: could have been cute but suffer from box city sadness. Black pants: feel dated… because of crease? The cut?

I was initially outraged that you didn’t get one of those cute trunks I’ve seen in other reviews. I thought: “what plus size ladies don’t get any love?!?”. But looking at the reviews it looks like this sometimes happens.

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Loba! Yes, it was hard packing away that red shirt, jeans, and black skirt tbh.

Yeah, I was mainly bummed the insides weren’t all fancy like I had seen in a peer’s review. At least the clothing was pretty cute.

JennWin1980

You looked fantastic in all the was sent, due to how you styled everything! You have a lovely way of putting everything together!

One thing on the packaging- it might be better to receive items in a plain brown box instead of a more ornate box. Porch theft is a big thing now, and I would thing a boring brown box would be a lot less enticing (and noticeable!) than a blinded out box. I WOULD expect at least a packing sheet inside, though. Just a thought I had!

Thank you for your wonderful reviews!

Nicolet Rieder

That is a good point, Jenn! Nondescript packaging on the outside is ok, but I was a bit more bummed out by the inside packaging even. Seeing other reviews they include personalized notes and fancy invoices. Oh, well! C’EST LA VIE!

Ragan

Sometimes Unique Vintage uses a cute box and sometimes it is a plain envelope. I don’t have enough experience with Trunk Club to know if they also switch off. But if the trunk included shoes and a purse, they might have had to use a random plain box to fit everything. The one trunk I did get was not big enough to hold a shoe box on top of my clothes.

**Blinged, not blinded! Love me so autocorrect!!!

Bonnie

You’re adorable and you have great style. I don’t like either of the white pieces on you. I do think browns, maybe not as light as this jacket, would look great against your red hair, but the light brown jacket is still ok – picture wearing it over the black top, not the white one. The black top is a good value, I think, because I think you’ll get a lot of use out of that. I love everything on you except the white stuff, and the black pants, but that could be because I just don’t like the pants, nothing to do with you. I prefer slimmer fitting pants. Not a fan of trousers.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Awe thank you, Bonnie! Yes, the trousers looked so good on other taller models, but it just made me look shorter. Maybe it was that with the top I wore. The white dress grew on me, but that red top, skirt, and the jeans were the mvps for sure of that box! Thanks again!

Reply ButtonReply

Tammy

I like those last pants on you, and with that red top maybe!

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thank you, Tammy. You’re right; they probably would have looked really nice with the red top tbh!

Ragan

The first dress looks a bit like a wedding dress for a casual wedding. Really like the black top/jeans and red shirt/black skirt on you. I haven’t done a Trunk in ages. I should do one.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Hey Ragan, I thought the same thing! I think I may have liked it more if I had big hair like Priscilla Presley! Haha.

And you totally should do a trunk!
